So long as it's a good quality cocoa powder, you should be OK and void of accidental bugs and whatnot!. Even when you eat something like an organic tomato, there's no guarantee that a spider has not crawled inside and died!.
It's all a bit like when packaging says "may contain nut" because the machinery has been previously used in a recipe containing nuts!. So long as the the ingredients are vegan in a product, then you are not funding animal cruelty and animal use (which is the important thing) so it's still vegan in my opinion!.
Though it is gross :(Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cocoa powder is derived from the cocoa bean, a plant, therefore it is very fine to consume on a vegan diet!. As long as no gelatin or milk or other dairy and animal products are used with that cocoa powder to make chocolate or dessert, then it is still okay to eat!.
Look around at your supermarket or health food store and they will most probably have vegan chocolate!. I didn't know the plain old organic chocolate i bought for two dollars at my local supermarket was vegan until i checked the ingredients =] Yay to me and my delicious vegan treat!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Carob is a much better alternative - no caffeine, no theobromine, and doesn't need any added sugar because it is naturally sweet (40-50% sugars), unlike cocoa which is bitter!.

Cocoa powder comes from cocoa beans, so it is vegan!.

NO!!! Basically, a true vegan will not eat chocolate, as it contains insect particles (sometimes rodent hair and even poop)!. According to the US Food & Drug Administration (I've provided the link at the bottom as proof for you to review!.!.!.I'm not making this up), these are the limitations to the amount of insect chocolate can contain:
