How can I learn to stick with being a vegetarian?!
I've tried vegetarian diets before and almost always I wind up maybe going veg anywhere from 2-3 weeks to maybe a couple months at most and then I wind up reverting to eating meat and fish!. Its not that I have anything against people eating meat or fish, but its more upsetting that I cannot stick with a personal commitment with my diet and I know vegetarianism, generally, has worked for me (in terms of keeping my weight low, more energy, and I overall feel better)!.
How can I stick to a vegetarian diet without getting the urges to eat meat/fish or wind up "settling" for it when there's no options available!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

First off, there is at least one option at restaurants and fast foods chains for vegeterians!. Most places are getting with the times because a lot of people have specialized diets!. Whether it be veg, allergies, etc!. I'm not sure where you live but Burger King has a veggie burger, Del Taco and Taco Bell have plenty of meat free options, and others out there offer choices!. It's just about really taking a look at the menu, and even coming up with some substitutions to make a meal work!. Fast food chains are tough, but most casual dining joints have options!. also, ethnic food like Thai, Indian, and Japanese are loaded with meat-free food that is delicious and hearty!. You just have to be open to a different world of food!.
also, and this is what has helped me over the years, is learn how to cook!. I can't emphasize this enough!. Think of your favorite meat dishes now, you can probably figure out a way to make a vegeterian version and that way you don't miss out on those flavors!. Cooking at home also helps you explore different types of food, you can control what you eat in terms of chemicals and fats, and believe it or not, you will save money!. I think this is the tough part for people because really, who has the time!? But when you make the time, and you follow through, you'll see it's not that bad!. I've even gotten into the habit of baking deserts almost every day, too! There are a ton of cookbooks and online recipes to look at!. Cooking, if you've never done it, can be tough and discouraging, but I assure you, if you pick a recipe and just stick with following the directions you'll feel great when you eat a meal that you made yourself!. And it'll get easier from there!.
The world out there is still very much made for eating meat, so it's up to you to pave a different path for yourself and not going with the McProgram!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My advice would be to do more reading on vegetarianism!. If this is something that you truly want to do, then you will want to know enough about all the reasons to be a vegetarian because it may help you stick to your decision!.
I have been vegetarian for over 10 years!. My original desire to do so was primarily for environmental reasons!. But I knew that for me, that would not necessarily be a compelling enough reason to stick to my choice in the long-term!. So I started doing some reading!. I read a number of different books on vegetarianism!. The last book that I read before I became vegetarian was called "Diet for a New America"!. At the time is was already pretty out-dated, so you could probably find a lot better options for yourself to read now!. But this book was exactly what I needed to give me the motivation to become a vegetarian and stick it out!. I had learned not only about the environmental aspects of vegetarianism, but also the health benefits, and most importantly the what the animals go through!. This book went animal by animal, detailing what they go through from when they are born until they are killed!. By the time I had finished this book, I felt I had enough knowledge and will-power in me to stick to my decision!.
I have been vegetarian ever since I read that book!. It wasn't always easy!. Especially in the beginning!. But the longer I was vegetarian, the easier it got!. I never wanted meat anymore!. There are times even recently when I have questioned my decision!. But then I read about the latest animal abuse scandal at a meat packaging plant, and I feel good about my decision!. Plus, any time I actually think about eating the meat, it makes me feel sick!. I know I couldn't do it!.
Being vegetarian is a difficult transition, but it gets easier with time!. You will find out how to order and what to order at restaurants, etc!. But mostly, you will realize which are the easiest ones for you to eat at as a vegetarian!. Most restaurants will have a choice for you!. It may not be on the menu, so just learn to ask!. I often ask the waiter what choices they have for a vegetarian, and they always have some option for me!. And at fast food places, you would be surprised how accepting they are if you order something and just ask them to leave the meat out!. You can, after all, get a cheeseburger without the meat!. I have ordered sandwiches without the meat many times!. Never a problem!.
And as for cooking at home, that is the easy part!. But it can take a while to figure out a lot of easy foods that you can cook, and become comfortable with your new diet!. I would recommend getting some vegetarian cook books!.
It does take will power and the energy to stick to your decision!. It sounds like this is something that you really want to do!. So if January 2009 is your target, go to your local library and start checking out some books that will help you in your knowledge quest to make this the right decision!.
Good luck! You can do it!Www@FoodAQ@Com

that depends on why you went veg!
for me, i had to train the way that i look at meat and what i associate it with!. growingup i had always thought that meat = food, so it was hard to see something wrong with it!.
you need to train yourself to not think of meat as food, but to think of it as something else!. whenever i think about eating meat i think of the fact that it is the CARCASS of a dead animal that is already DECOMPOSING!. they actually inject chemicals into meat to keep it from turning green because it's already rotting flesh!.
just try to change your thinking!. for example, i wouldn't eat leather because leather isn't food!. if you don't think of meat as food it won't even be an OPTION for you to eat it!.!.!.!.!.
i know it can be tough making the switch, but i'm SURE you can do it!! good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think your current method of vegetarian eating with monthly relapses is probably message from you body stating that is what you need!. It is not a sin to take what you need from the bounty that God has given!. Animals do as much!.!.!. and no more than that!.
The fact you are vegetarian so much shows that you care and are ethical and have self control!. The fact that you eat meat sometimes shows that you are human and you need adequate nutrition!.!.!.!. your body is telling you what you need, by giving you cravings!. 1 piece of meat a month should be enough!.
Be content with "good enough"!. Those who take the extreme approach are never happy!. Trust your body!. You've trained it well!. ?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ok, I was a vegetarian for 4 years!. But after my baby, I couldn't stop eating meat!
One thing that's helped me is being open to meat! Oddly enough! With all the organic options, I'll have some organic meat now and then!. And I'm more open to fish! It helps not to beat yourself up, but to start off with healthier options for yourself!. It's not all or nothing! Try to eat vegetarian for today, and maybe you can do it again tomorrow!.!.!. and keep saying that!. Eventually, you'll make a full switch! And you'll be eating with a better conscience until then!Www@FoodAQ@Com
