To all my fellow vegans and vegetarians out there, what are you eating on Thanksgiving?!

Question: To all my fellow vegans and vegetarians out there, what are you eating on Thanksgiving!?
I don't know what I am eating yet!. I know there are a lot of veggies on Thanksgiving, but theres going to be butter and all that grossness in them!. Give me ideas please :]Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Mashed potatoes (made with potatoes and salt and soy milk) and green beans!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Although I am not a strict vegan, I never eat dairy and rarely eat meat!. I am going home for thanksgiving and I am trying to be upfront this year so that no one's feelings are hurt!.I have volunteered to bring alot of dishes to share so that there is food for me to eat and no one feels they have to go out of their way to make anything they perceive to be "extra" or "wierd"!.

I am volunteering to make or bring these items for sure: a pumpkin pie, choc!. chip cookies, corn bread and collards!. I am still playing with the possibility of bringing baked acorn squash with apples and a vegan version of the green bean casserole!. My parents fry a turkey (which I have no intention of eating) and make very few other meat based dishes that day!. Dairy is the bigger issue!.!.!.!. it is in everything and I simply do not eat it!.

Since I will be staying for the week, I am also packing a small "emergency kit" of dry goods such as nuts, cereals, shelf stable soy milk, shelf stable tofu etc!.!.!. just in case!. I realize it is going to be a bit odd to show up carting more boxes of food than luggage but hopefully people will discover that they love acorn squash so much they want to add it to their own table next year whether I am there or not!

We have a combo vegan, non-vegan dinner to include all my family, so we don't add butter or milk to the mashed potatoes, and no butter to the veggies!. We do have butter on the table and some fresh salsa!. The sweet potatoes have brown sugar added, and then of course the salad is served bare and no cheese!. I found a vegan pumpkin custard pie on the web, or us vegans eat fruit bars instead of pie!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i'm taking someone's suggestion from a day or two ago and cooking myself a nice yummy squash :)!.
my family is doing a turkey, obviously that's not my thing!.
here are some other things we'll be having (and this year i'm hosting, so LOTS of it will be vegan!)
mashed potatoes (w/ earth balance and soy milk)
sweet potatoes w/ no marshmallows (my family is southern, lol)
green bean casserole
sweet corn
rolls
noodles (my husband is weird and likes noodles with his potatoes)
turkey (for all the meat eaters, courtesy of my hubby)
cranberry dressing
some sort of dessert, but i haven't decided what yet :)

our thanksgiving is pretty traditional aside from my squash, and that's just how everyone likes it!.

also a tip for those of you whose families don't want to give up their turkey:
dont let them get a WHOLE turkey!.!.!.!.nobody eats the whole darn thing anyhow!. just ask them to get large turkey breasts so that it isn't sitting on your table looking like a giant dead bird!.
just a thought ;)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, VEGGIES!!!!! =DWww@FoodAQ@Com

I made this last night to take it for a test run and it's pretty darn tasty!

Tofu Turkey 1

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
5 (16 ounce) packages extra firm tofu
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 red onion, finely diced
1 1/3 cups diced celery
1 cup chopped mushrooms
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/8 cup dried sage
2 teaspoons dried thyme
salt and pepper to taste
1 1/2 teaspoons dried rosemary
1/4 cup tamari
3 cups prepared herb stuffing

1/2 cup sesame oil
1/4 cup tamari
2 tablespoons miso paste
5 tablespoons orange juice
1 teaspoon honey mustard
1/2 teaspoon orange zest
3 sprigs fresh rosemary

DIRECTIONS
Line a medium sized, round colander with a cheese cloth or a clean dish towel!. Place the crumbled tofu in the colander!. Place another cheese cloth over the top of the tofu!. Place the colander over the top of a bowl to catch the liquid!. Place a heavy weight on top of tofu!. Refrigerate the colander, tofu and weight for 2 to 3 hours!.
Make the stuffing: In a large frying pan saute onion, celery and mushrooms in 2 tablespoons of the sesame oil until tender!. Add the garlic, sage, thyme, salt and pepper, rosemary and 1/4 cup of the tamari!. Stir well; cook for 5 minutes!. Add prepared herb stuffing and mix well!. Remove from heat!.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C)!. Grease a cookie sheet!.
Combine 1/2 cup sesame oil, 1/4 cup tamari, miso, orange juice, mustard and orange zest in a small bowl; mix well!.
Remove the weight from the tofu!. Hollow out the tofu so that there is one inch of tofu still lining the colander!. Place the scooped out tofu in a separate bowl!. Brush the tofu lining with a small amount of the miso seasoning!. Scoop the stuffing into the center of the tofu shell!. Place the leftover tofu on top of the stuffing and press down firmly!. Turn the stuffed tofu onto the prepared cookie sheet!. Putting the leftover tofu side of the "turkey" (the flat side) down!. Gently press on the sides of the "turkey" to form a more oval shape!. Brush the tofu turkey with 1/2 of the oil-tamari mixture!. Place the sprigs of rosemary on top of the tofu!. Cover the "turkey" with foil!.
Bake for one hour!. After one hour, remove "turkey" from the oven and remove the foil!. Baste the "turkey" with the remaining tamari-oil sauce (reserving 4 tablespoons of sauce)!. Return "turkey" to oven and bake another hour or until the tofu turkey is golden brown!. Place the tofu turkey on a serving platter, brush with the remaining tamari-oil mixture and serve hot!.

Well, my mother (for whatever reason) doesn't seem to care too much that I cannot eat what she fixes!. I'm vegan and she puts butter, milk, turkey drippings and whathaveyou in EVERYthing!.
She did let me know that she will "set aside" a helping of greens for me and won't put a ham hock in there!. (Gee, thanks!)

She also commissioned me to make the potatoes!. So, I'm making twice baked potatoes with vegan butter and rice milk!. On top of that, I'm probably also taking some veggie sushi and veggie egg rolls!.!.maybe some fried rice!.
That's about it!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

For some ideas I just tried out the DexKnows Yellow pages site at http://www!.dexknows!.com and thought I'd go to my local Health food store in my area!.

So I typed in "Health & Diet Food Product Retail" into the What box & "Denver, CO" into the Where box and it gave me a list of places I can go within my area to go get some suggestions on what to get for a vegetarian Thanksgiving dinner!.

Try it out, might just help you out as well!

We have done Tofurkey in the past, but I'm not a fan of it!. This year we are going to try the Celebration Roast (a wheat product!.) We will probably have baked yams, cranberry sauce, and green beans with almonds!. Desert might be an apple pie!. It will only be the two of us this year, so we are keeping it very simple!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

We are forgoing the Tofurkey this year because my sister may be allergic to soy!. We'll have vegan mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, lima beans, peas, vegan dressing, cranberry sauce and whatever vegan deserts we can cook up!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm going to roast a Tofurky with some potatoes and carrots!. Probably some sort of tarragon rub, but we'll see!. Haven't really gotten much further than that!. I keep forgetting how close we are to the date!.!.!.gotta get on that!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not a veggie-anything, but haven't I heard of a tofurkey before!? A turkey made with tofu!? I wouldn't have a clue what it tasted like, but I always liked the name!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm eating this:
