Is the Quattro Formaggi pizza vegetarian?!
I bought a Pizza Express one from Sainsbury's and it didn't say whether it contains meat or not!.
also there aren't any ingredients for it on the website (http://www!.pizzaexpress!.com/our-food/piz!.!.!. I checked the PDF menu (http://www!.pizzaexpress!.com/our-food/mai!.!.!. and it said it wasn't vegetarian!.
I've had a little look on the internet and found this:
" Milk is coagulated by the addition of rennet!. The active ingredient of rennet is the enzyme, chymosin (also known as rennin)!. The usual source of rennet is the stomach of slaughtered newly-born calves!. Vegetarian cheeses are manufactured using rennet from either fungal or bacterial sources!."
from the Vegetarian Society website (http://www!.vegsoc!.org/info/cheese!.html)!.
But, I looked on the Sainsbury's website for the ingredients and it doesn't say anything about it being vegetarian either! Go here (http://www!.sainsburys!.com/groceries/fram!.!.!. then search Quattro Formaggi in the search bar and click on the Pizza Express one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would think that it isn't veggie, sorry!. I am also vegetarian and care about the ingredients of cheeses (which I find a lot of vegetarians aren't as picky about)!. But I have yet to find a frozen pizza with vegetarian cheese!. It's really up to you whether you choose to eat it or not!. Many less strict veggies don't pay attention to cheese ingredients, but if you want to be careful then I wouldn't eat/buy it!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
My friend is looking into this for you and so will post an answer soon
My friend is vegetarian and has ways and means of finding these things out!
I would say as the quattro formaggi means four cheese that it is suitable for vegetarians, however my friend has just found out for you that the pizza does infact contain animal rennet, so sorry, it's not suitable for vegetarians!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

quattro formaggi means 4 cheese and it is probably a 4 cheese pizza!. i have never heard or seen cheese made from the stomach of slaughtered newborn calves!. most farmers do not slaughter newborn calves as they are worth more money when fully grown or when sold as veal!. i would say there is no meat and the veg soc group is just trying to scare you, but i eat meat and am always a little weary of the information given by people with such an obvious bias!. a quattro formaggio pizza (4 cheese pizza) will traditionally contain four of the following cheeses - parmesan, mozzarella, asiago, gorgonzola (or dolcelatte)!.
All of the above will contain rennet and, whilst most can be made with a non animal rennet, it is unlikely that the big pizza places would go to the trouble of sourcing them!.
Next time go for an alternative!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
