Vegetable farms kill animals?!
In a previous post exsft wrote this:
Additional info: vegetable and fruit farms slaughter up to an estimated 1-4 billion animals per year during planting, growing and harvesting of crops!. Not including insects and those animals that are too small to get an accurate statistic!. These include rabbits, squirrels, gophers, coyotes, wolverines etc and other creatures that are classified as pests!. The US government in fact pays a certain amount for every rabbit killed in some areas!.
I'm not trying to debate or argue here, I was wondering if you could give me your source exsft!. I am curious and would like to learn more!. Anyone else with any information on this!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

That was from an old article I came across on the 'net!. You can search for the OSU study done by a Professor Davis which has some stats and a conclusion which may surprise you!.
I think I also stated the number of animals killed for food approximate: from a "low" of 9 billion to a high of 40 billionWww@FoodAQ@Com

we have a corn packing plant close by, and yes its true!.
twice, when one of my brothers was a teen, he tried to work there, but both times he came home after just a few hours, sickened by what he saw!.
as you can imagine, when the machinery harvests the corn, it scoops up everything in its path, animals and insects included!.and yes, some remnants of these animals DO make it into your can of corn!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why does that seem so far fetched to you!?
Take off your veggie blinders and common sense will prevail!.
edit - well, it's kind of common sense, do you think that the animals living on the farmland have evolved a sense of when the crops will be plowed!? Do you really expect the farmer to spend 6 months plowing his crops to make sure he does not harm any animal in the process!. Of course not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In every farming community they have pest controls!. The worst pests according to farmers in the UK are, rabbits, hares, pigeons, grey squirrells, mice, rats, feral cats, foxes, badgers, otters in some parts of the UK etc etc

I couldn't find any figures doing a search but I'm not surprised nor disagreeing with the estimate!. The fact still remains that most of the crops harvested are to feed meat animals though!. Even as a meat eater I acknowledge that!.
One odd note I did come across was that in 2004, Australia set the limit on wild kangaroo harvest at 4!.4 million kangaroos!. I thought that was a surprising number!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The meat industry intentionally mistreats and kills animals!. On vegetable and fruit farms, it's accidental!. It would be like saying since people are often killed in car accidents, driving a car is just as immoral as murder!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
there's a huge difference in accidental death and purposely killing an animal!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
But you didn't say how many animals the meat industry kills which is probably far higher, this may include animals like mountain lions that may try to eat up the livestock!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
