I am looking for some support in the transition from a SAD to a raw vegan diet for my family. Any advice?!
Last year my mother was diagnosed with bladder cancer!. She already has diabetes and MS!. The thought of any of her ailments being inherited to me or any of my four children was terrifying!.
I did much research, and finally found something that truly made sense to me!. RAW food!. I have been enjoying the benefits from it for some time, and am now enjoying living with alkaline blood!. My husband is mostly raw, and loves everything I prepare!. He still enjoys eating cooked food, dairy and occasionally meat, but 70% of his diet is raw!.
My children, ranging from 7-16years are "grossed out" by it!. With encouragement, they are consuming less pasteurized dairy products, and eating more greens!.
Does anyone know of any steps I can take to further encourage their participation in this lifestyle that has me feeling so good!?
Some of you will inevitably attack raw vegan food!.!.!. but know this!.!.!. this diet has cured me of gum disease, chronic acne, cluster headaches and high blood pressure!.!.!. so whatever your argument, make it good!.!.!. because unless you have been raw, you couldn't possibly know the true benefits of it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just talk about the benefits!. I went raw vegan because of something I read that will help manage an incurable disability I got in the Marine Corps!. It isn't cured, but it's helping!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
What you might want to do is transition them to a cooked vegan diet first!. Stop buying dairy products--humans are not meant to consume cows' milk--and buy soy milk, rice milk, almond milk instead for their cereals!. If you have an ice cream maker, you can make raw "ice cream" with nut milks!. Or you can get soy ice cream or rice ice cream, which isn't raw, but it is vegan!.
When you buy treats for them, get vegan goodies instead!.
And oh, yeah, get them involved in food preparation!.
Raw living isn't for everyone, but you can certainly cut animal foods out of their diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i say good for you!. everyones body has different requirements and its great you found something that works for you!. i dont doubt raw, unprocessed food is a lot healthier!. the only concern i could see is ensuring youre getting sufficient daily vitamins/minerals and such!. if youre good on that, then keep it up!.
as for ideas, im sure that your kids will come around when they get bit older, but i would try to incorporate it into something fun, like someone suggestion of movie night!. go on a hike, some sort of adventure where you have to bring food along!. when you stop and rest youll all be super hungry and theyll probably love to eat it then!. have them help you prepare meals, maybe it will get them more interested, anything interactive works well with kids!. kudos to you, i dont think i could do it!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am Vegan and have done Vegan Raw in the past!. Well done you, I found it too difficult over the winter months but have already promised myself to try again next spring!.
As to your children, can I strongly recommend that you back right off!? If they are 'grossed out' by it, then they are closed to any suggestions, regardless of your good intentions!. Back off!. Don't even mention it, don't make a fuss about their food choices!.
By setting a fantastic example for your children, they will be absorbing the information without knowing!. They may model your admirable behaviours in the future!. It may not even be whilst they are children, it may be as adults!. You made the decision as an adult, they may need to reach maturity to make informed choices!.
When we love somebody it is easy to fall into the trap of trying to persuade them to do something which they don't want to but we are certain is better for them!. Particularly our children!. I would advise that you don't allow this to become an issue they fight against!. For children and teenagers food is an area where they can gain a lot of power and control!. Many use it as a tool against their parents!. Don't give them the ammunition to do so!.
Just walk the walk and they may (in time) follow your excellent example!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd like to mention Wilfred Crone!.
He changed from meat-eater through veggie to vegan, and for the last years of his life, he ate raw food only!.
He's no longer with us; in his late 80s he fell off his pushbike and broke a leg!.
Having to be cared for made him aware that he was getting older and would eventually have to be dependent on other people, so he took his own life!.
Google his name if you care to verify this!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
