Oh, that's brilliant! I was going to say that b12 is a soil bacteria and that is indeed how the animals get it (I don't understand how we came to believe other animals magically synthesize things we don't but need -- even the plants get their nutrients from the soils) but I never gave a thought to how the routine use of antibiotics in raising animals in the industrial factory farm CAFO (Confined Animal Feeding Operation) way would also be killing off one of the main reasons given for consuming meat!.
The antibiotic use in these operations are also causing wide-spread MRSA which is very scary and I wonder how bad it has to get before people think eating meat is too costly and just who has to be sacrificed before it stops!.

BTW: Lots of cultures actually did eat dirt until it was contaminated by chemicals such as from Monsanto and toxified animal waste:

Yes, most people who are deficient are indeed meat-eaters as at least 39 of 40 out of 100 are low!. Stress seems to be more of a factor than a plant-based diet!. Now, having said that, it's good to go ahead and take a sub-lingual tab a couple times a week because the way we live now does limit that nutrient for us!. Truthfully a lot of our chow these days is supplemented such as D added to milk, iodine added to salt, folic acid (and many other things) added back into processed flours!.!.!. becoming food-wrapped pills so it's hardly a failure of the veg*n diet to take a little extra b12!.

I think that in an earlier phase of human existence (say before the Ice Age), there were more plant-based sources of B12!. Now, we need to take B12 supplements because we wash our food so much!. That's a good thing, but in addition to removing the microbial nastiness that can make us sick, we also wash off the healthful, B12-producing bacteria found in the soil!. You could in theory get enough B12 by going out back and eating dirt :-), but I wouldn't recommend it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Bacteria naturally produce B12!. Using nutritional yeast is one way to get B12!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Why yes, there is a natural source of vitamin B12 and that source, is MEAT! So much for that whole "humans are natural herbivores" thing that so many of the peta pushers on here swear by!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
