What's up with supporting PETA?!

Question: What's up with supporting PETA!?
Now, before people start accusing me of harassment and meat eating, I am a vegan!. What I want to know is why so many vegetarians and vegans support PETA!.

I read that the organization spent a good deal of money trying to get the towns of Rodeo, California, and Fishkill, New York to change their names, trying to create invitro meat, instead of just not eating it!. also, we have all read, heard, and seen the ads that they've put out, and their practice of euthinzation!.

I'm not slamming the organization for doing nothing beneficial - I'm sure they've done some awesome things as well - but it seems like many things they do are unnecessary and misusing the donations they recieve from their supporters!.

Why do people not support other organizations, but choose to support something like that!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Because unfortunately alot of vegans and vegetarians have the same in your face aggressive attitude just like PETA does!. It doesn't sit well with us that are quieter and tend to live more peacefully!. I didn't become a vegetarian to judge everyone else!. I will state my views on fur, etc, but I will not pour paint on someone wearing it!. Why!? Because it solves nothing and now that animals is completely wasted and its thrown in the trash!. Congraulations PETA on discarded animals even more! At least wearing the fur showed SOME use for the animal so it wasn't completely in vain, but to be shoved in a garbage bag, stupid!. I agree on making people aware of what the fur industry does and not condone in any way the wearing of it, but no animal should be treated in such an inhumane manner in life or death!.

Its funny, PETA went on a spree about KFC and pouring paint on chickens, but its okay to pour paint on an animal after death!? Kind of a hypocritical policy!. And yeah, the euthenasia thing makes me laugh, and cry!.

Such a backwards world we live in!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am also a vegan & have very mixed feelings about PETA!. As much as I dislike alot of the stuff they do, I also think they have turned ALOT of people into vegetarians/vegans so they are doing some good!. I don't know why they have to be so weird about certain things like trying to change town names!. That's just bizarre to me!. They really should spend their time doing something more productive and useful to help animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

people support different things and let them be!. Would it be fair if someone of one religion said crap about someone of another religion and told them why do they support that religion!? no it wouldn't! i am not particularly a peta supporter but many of the things they try to put out is true but they put them out in a bad way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The acts of PETA are illegal and assaultive in most cases!. They also advocate allowing wild animals to starve to death, in areas where there are low food stuffs for them to eat, rather than have them cleanly harvested for the benefits of the native population!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I see your point--PETA is kinda extremist!.
I think people support it because they think it's doing the right thing, and/or admire that they have a big organization for animal rights!. It would be a great organization if itwasn't so extremist!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i don't support peta, i support greenpeace though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Chief Inaney is a sockpuppet for Hwank/Assley (aka a dozen other rotating names) and is a shill for the Center for Consumer Freedom which one hopes he is at least getting paid for since big bucks from the meat, dairy and restaurant association is funneled to the astroturf CCF and Richard Berman to vilify PETA because they are such a threat (the truth usually is to profits built on deception so they throw more lies out to cover the ones already told -- let reality set you free of their propaganda):

Here's the real story on that issue:

If animals were treated well there would be no reason for PETA!.

But they also are given animals that other organizations won't take!. A "No Kill" shelter is great but currently with the housing crisis people are giving up their homes and having to move into apartments that won't allow their animals!. There's a 400 person waiting list in my local area to surrender an animal to the "No Kill" shelter!. A "No Kill" shelter also refuses animals that aren't adoptable!.

PETA gets animals taken to them which are in extremely poor health and can't be placed even though they don't even have shelters!. So, yeah they do arrange for painless and humane euthanization where needed rather than painful, drawn-out, senseless death!. They haven't even approached in all their years what just the one county where I live has to do every single year by law!.

An estimated 4 to 6 million dogs and cats are euthanized in America's animal shelters each year because they are not wanted by anyone, anywhere!. We used 5 million to be safe!. (Reference: HSUS Pet Overpopulation)

* Divide 5,000,000 by 365 to find out how many pets are killed each day (13,698!.63)

* Divide 13,698!.63 by 24 to find out how many pets are killed each hour (570!.776)

* Divide the number of pets killed per hour by 60 to find out how many pets are killed per minute (9!.51)

Meanwhile there are 10 Billion (that's Billion with a B) food animals slaughtered every single year just in the United States (that's correct, with just 5% of the population we consume over 15% of the world's meat)!. Over 90% of these animals in the US are raised in abysmal conditions so bad many of them die before making it to slaughter!.

EDIT TO ADD:
Frankly I've never heard of any real sanctioned event where a stranger on the street was splashed with red paint by PETA members!. There is however a few times PETA members have painted themselves red or sprayed a window (with washable paint)!. Here's a cute post about a fur story from Sex in the City and what happened to the furs from that show:

It would do people good to actually find out the truth behind nasty rumors and why even those rumors were spread!. There's more than one reason to be veg!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In my experience, it's because people just don't think to question PeTa!. For a while i didn't!. Because the only thing i saw was their ads for better animal treatment i just assumed they were all about animals and a good organization to support if i liked animals too!. I think that's what most people think about PeTa!. It's also why celebrities endorse peta, the majority of the public *thinks* that peta is good, so in turn that encourages celebs who want to attach themselves to something that is good support peta!.

However after digging deeper you will find that PeTa has killed 20,000 perfectly adoptable kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs since 1998, even when shelters right across from the PeTa headquarters said they would accept them, PeTa declined!. PeTa spend 1% of it's budget on actuall animal conservation!.

About the only thing that PeTa does right is it's marketing!. PeTa is a wonderful example of great marketting, they only inform the public of things that peta WANTS you to know, while they had all the skeletons!. For instance, if PeTa had their way no one would be allowed to have pets, they are even against blind people having lead dogs!. If PeTa were to post an add in the paper titled "PeTa says you are a horrible person for loving your cat or dog" that not too many people would support them!. PeTa recognizes that they are extreme, otherwise they would be upfront about things like that!. Instead they try to ease you in and scare you into it with their staged videos!. Shame on PeTa, the IRS should take away PeTa's "non profit" tag!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
