Bmage, you have no idea what you are talking about!.

"I am for the consumption of milk, I believe it is nessesary for the development of our youth to aquire the proper nutrients needed for growth!."

You will come off as a moron if you disagree with the ADA as a food science major that you need milk to be healthy!. Oh yeah, and the spelling!.

Funny how you remarked that you did not post this question in this section because you were seeking bias answers, yet in your last additional details you yourself have clearly already made up your mind what you think about milk, that makes you a troll!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

alright your taking the milk from the calf's!.

soy milk is better!.

who even decided to drink milk in the first place!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Although drinking milk from a cow's utter may seem unsanitary, there is absolutely no need to worry for the milk is cleaned and processed to make sure that no bad toxins reach your system while you drink it!. The only thing you might have to worry about is sour milk, but can only be caused if milk is left out for prolonged periods of time, milk is best if chilled or refrigerated!. Despite the thought of milk being unsanitary to drink, it carries calcium which is crucial to bone structure making it an essential to everyday meals!. I assure you, milk is completely safe to drink, if you are spooked, you can check the nutrition facts on the back of the carton!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i heard a long time ago that people aren't really supposed to drink milk past the age of 5!. i dont remember where i saw that though, would like to know if you've seen it!.

im not a vegan!.!.!.
but i am lactose intolerant as is my baby, so we have either soy milk or lactose free milk!.
but i only have it for cooking or in a rare occasion on cereal, but i eat lots of cheese!.
however, i think milk is gross!. it reminds me of cow utters everytime i see it and eggs gross me out too!. i just look at eggs and picture them coming out of a chickens ***!. it doesnt really i know, but the picture is still there!.

I understand the belief that humans drinking milk is unnatural and that we do not -need- milk to survive!.

But since when does anyone do only what you -need- to these days!?

We don't -need- the internet, but obviously we all have it!. We don't -need- to go spend that two-hundred dollars on those oh, so, awesome seats to see that really nifty band!. But we want to!.

I like the taste of milk!. I may not -need- it!. I can get calcium and vitamin D and such elsewhere!. But I -want- to drink it!. So why can't I!?

I'm not lactose intolerant!. Dairy is not one of my allergies!.

Oh!. And don't give me a ridiculous analogy like, "Well, a murderer wants to kill, why can't he!?" That's taking an illegal act of taking another human's life and comparing it to simply the drinking of a liquid!.

This is how i see it not only with the milk thing but the meat thing too!.

Yes animals were put on earth to be eaten!. Not arguing with that because it is true!. Doing this and drinking milk is fine as people have been doing it for thousands of years!.

But put this into perspective- we have not mass produced cows, forced them onto machines and screwed up their nutrition for thousands of years!. In the old days we did not pollute the oceans therefore fish with chemicals and toxins, we didn't trap chickens into unsanitary cages and we didn't force feed our animals crappy food to fatten them up in three seconds, nor did we pump them full of anitbiotics!.

So the way i see it, back then it would be okay both ethically and health-wise to eat meat, eat eggs, eat fish and drink milk because they were done in humane, normal speed, unpolluted ways> But nowadays you get all sorts of things in your meat, in your fish and in your dairy like hormones, faeces, pus, additives, preservatives, pesticides, toxins, chemicals etc!.

Not only that but science and nutritionhas revealed that yes, some things were not as good for us as we thought!. But the actual quality of food these days has declined so much that i wouldn't want to eat it regardles of the yes, very high health risks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you wanted non biased answers, why did you post this in the veg section!? I can tell you right now, the majority of the answers you get will be along the lines of;

"Are you an infant or a calf!? Then you don't need milk!. Milk is the cancerous pus from cows!. Milk will give you osteoperosis because you get too much protein from it(that one's a kicker)!. Milk is full of hormones and steroids that are fed to the cow!.!.!." I think that about covers the various answers that you will get!.

Want a non biased, factual answers!?
Well, get OUT of the V/V section! That's for sure!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think asking a question like this is very irresponsible and arrogant of you!. You're just trying to get fellow vegans riled up and attacking vegetarians and meat-eaters!. You're not here to hear the other side of the story!.

I'm vegan too, btw!. But I refuse to take part in answering this question because of its obvious bias from asking it in the veg- section!.

Go ask in the regular food section and I may answer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Alright, FINALLY a dairy topic!.

Milk has calcium, this is true!. The calcium in milk is high enough to be utilized by the body for use, many vegitarians/vegans also state that soy milk for example has HIGHER calcium than milk!. What they are NOT telling you is that the calcium is bound by a protein and unable to be utilized by the body!. (Soy companies add a calcium carbonate or tri-calcium phosphate to provide the body usable calcium)

The salmonella thing, is somewhat true!.!.!. salmonella will be in higher concentrations (if present) as time progresses, however most milk spoils because lactobacilli (and a few other microbes) convert the lactose into lactic acid, which curdles (spoils the milk)!.

A fun fact I found out (in my Food Processing Book), was that over 90% of Asians and over 75% of Africans are lactose-intolerant!. The reason for this is unknown, however it is proven that as the human body ages, the production of lactase decreases, which explains why some people may develop an intolerance later in life!. (Some milk is lactose free or has added lactase, to help with digestion!. Another reason that might lead to consumption issues is that Caesin, is very difficult for the body to digest!. This is the protein in cows milk!.)

Milk really isn't that great a source of protein, it is only 2!.5-3% protein by volume, however is a good source of COMPLETE protein from a mobile source!.
5% lactose
2!.5-3!.5% protein
4% fat
87% water
0!.7% ash (various minerals)

As for the breast vs!. Cows milk for a baby, This is 100% true, the breast milk provides a complete source of nutrients for a developing baby, and offers an immunity boost!. (Not going to go too deep into this, my main focus is cows milk!.)

As for the processing, again, 100% true!. The nutrient content varies very little, many bacteria and some enzymes are inactivated during the pasteurization process!. This allows the product to become more stable for storage and increase it's lifespan!. Lactase is normally inactivated, however can be added again for those who are lactose intolerant!. (depends on source)!.

I am for the consumption of milk, I believe it is nessesary for the development of our youth to aquire the proper nutrients needed for growth!. It is fairly abundant in the world, does not require the death of an animal, and is highly portable (both in and out of the cow, lol)!. As stated previously, milk provides a source of complete protein, is relativly low in fat (milk contains 4% milk fat BEFORE being processed to whole (3!.5%), 2%, 1%, and skim (<!.5%) milk fat!.)

As for the calcium, if you decide to compare the calcium content in a product as a replacement for milk!.!. DO YOUR RESEARCH!. Soy milk itself does have higher calcium, HOWEVER it is bound to the protein and unusable for the body as a calcium source!.

If you chose to not use animal products, good for you; if you use animal products, that's fine also!. Each person is entitled to their own beliefs and lifestyle choices, and in such, each must bear the responsibilities for their actions!.

EDIT: Robomonkey, thank you for providing that link, it was very informative and reinforced many of the points I made in this post!.

Had you completely read the post and noticed the food item they have as the highest amount of calcium, it is a DAIRY product!. Followed by a vegetable, then skim milk, then spinach!.

Directly from the article: ""Calcium is also found in spinach and chard, but these vegetables contain oxalic acid, which combines with the calcium to form calcium oxalate, a chemical salt that makes the calcium less available to the body!.""

Although the article clearly questioned the use of dairy products for consumption, in the end the answer that was reached was that the use of dairy products for calcium was recommended!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
