So my family found out I was vegan and rather then going to a restuarant that I could eat at they all decided.?!

Question: So my family found out I was vegan and rather then going to a restuarant that I could eat at they all decided!.!?
To go to a meat based yum cha followed by Maccas where they al had two fillet of fish each, a chocolate sundae and a large fries!.!.!. with a diet coke!. All the while making fun of ME for drinking green tea and waiting until I could find a restaurant that had nutritious food!.
They are all overweight, even the kids, just watching them stuff their faces made me feel sick!.
And then they had the nerve to criticize my eating habits as being pointless and that "it is impossible to get protein in your diet" nearly made me scream!
I didn't say anything too them, and then when they dropped me home I had to go shopping and so did they so when we both wen't shopping where I just got basics (bread, rice milk, onions, tomatoes, pasta and a vegan sauce mix all organic BTW) and they hogged up on junk food, just heaps of junk food then they STILL made fun of me for how little choice I had!.
AHHHH!
How do I cope with such stupid people!?!!?! (so glad I don't live with them)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
That sounds very upsetting to be sure!. They sound like a bunch of lowly evolved, selfish, ignorant, uncaring, unsympathetic and cruel people!.

You can enlighten them, the more you enlighten them, the dumber they will feel, the more they will begin to realize you know what you're talking about!.

Talk about the health advantages of having an animal free diet!. I have a friend who is about as ignorant as it gets, he drinks whole milk, meat all the time, his cholesterol has soared to over 800!. he is a candidate to drop dead any time, he could go into a coma as he's also diabetic!. He couldn't care less about his diet and doesnt realize how serious it is!. Its your job to educate people!.!. because what you experienced is as IGNORANT AS IT GETS!. Are these people homophobes too!? I woudln't doubt it!.

Anyway!.!. let them know theres been extensive research concerning meat free diets, pointing to a healthy self!. Mention that its already been proven by British researchers (and you can google this) that red meat causes cancer!. Theres been research through studies that vegetarians are smarter than carnivores!. Theres been research that people in Asia have less cancer and heart disease because they eat less meat and more tofu and soy products!. The same people move to America, adopt the local food culture, and begin have a host of issues, the ugliest one being overweight, but including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, high blood pressure, more stress, etc!.

Ignorant people are quick to judge and mock!. Do you realize the main reason they are being so hateful is that subconsciously they are jealous of your discipline and resolve, your desire for health and a better life!? Its obvious already you are more intelligent than they are!. What you are, is what they can't reach, and they know this inside, so they seek to mock you because you are REMINDING them how F*cked up they are,and how they don't, can't and won't even try to be better!. to have discipline!. They couldn't care less about themselves, afterall IT SHOWS! It not only shows in their overweight (fat) but in their nasty personalities and how they treat you!. They've got thick heads and they are NOT using them!.

Veganism is an extremely healthy diet, even moreso than vegetarianism!. My cholesterol was 143 about four years ago, however, after beginning to consume more cheese a couple of yrs ago, it skyrocketed to 183, but by no means is that dangerous!. You can see though, what cholesterol can do to a person!. You can get your protein from SOY PRODUCTS, wheat protein, dark green vegetables, legumes, etc!. You don't have to eat animals!. There are also many VEGAN BODY BUILDERS!. Let me give you one place to find them, and I hope you feel better!.!.!. you are the light in that otherwise dark family, and it shows in how you're trying to better yourself, and they know it because they feel its a reflection on them, thats why they are cruel and mock you!.

Believe me, most of the world is like this, they always feel insecure around someone trying to better their life!. Keep up the good fight!

You said you don't see them most of the year so what's the big deal!? Or you just need to validate your choices and show the public how much of a committed vegan you are by calling your family "stupid people" in public!?
You already called them stupid and they think your stupid!. No need for you to talk to each other with "witty comeback"!.

PS Such as nice family!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Bull!. There's vegan friendly food at nearly every single restaurant!. It was your choice not to eat what was offered!. Baked potatoes, salads etc!.!.!.!.!.!.

I think you cope with such "stupid" people by first stop pretending you aren't as stupid as they are and secondly by trying a little harder to fit in with the group instead of giving them something to mock by being a primadonna!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

ah dude, ive dealt with that **** before!. ive literally had people eating mcdonalds infront of me tell me that a vegan diet, full of vegetables, grains, nuts, tofu and fruit isn't healthy!. its total rot and just shows you how people don't know what they're eating!.

don't let closeminded, ignorant people get to you dude!.

keep fighting the good fight!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't know how you did that without freaking out!.
I would have exploded and ripped them apart!. I guess that makes you a better person than me!.
I praise you for being so in control of yourself and being so disciplined in your diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Oh god how rude of them!. Sounds disgusting!. I hope you made yourself a nice dinner afterwards!?

You'll get your revenge when they all die of heart attacks!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Oh!. My!. Gees!. That literally sounds like a nightmare!. I wouldn't talk to them for ages!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i feel for you, sounds a lot like my family!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

just tell them how u feel towards meatWww@FoodAQ@Com

Hi Brendan, as a fellow Aussie I know how much they can eat, I've seen them, worked with them, and also used to have family like that!.
My family are all vegans (immediate family anyway)!.
With your so called family, I would put up with it and lead by example, hopefully no-one dies before they wake up!
You did great for keeping your cool, it's shows a strong character and people will respect that!.
YOU'RE A WINNER, just keep doing what you're doing!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maybe they aren't the problem!. There are a few possibilities, either you have been a jerk to most of your family for a while now and they are now taking the opportunity to get you back since you turned vegan, or you turned vegan and are all in their face and preachy(i'm betting on this one), or your family are just jerks for no reason(which is unlikely)!.

You chose to be vegan, your entire family should not have to alter their lifestyle to fit you!. You need to change your lifestyle to fit in with theirs, next time bring some vegan food in a bag or something if the restaurant is that big of a deal!. And don't most restaurants have salad!? What's wrong with salad for 1 meal out of about 1,000 that you will have for breakfast, lunch, and dinner each year!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Any person who differs from the conventional and orthodox lifestyles and does not follow the traditional and customary lifestyles is likely to be ridiculed so vegans are often regarded as weirdos or crazy health fanatics!.

Unfortunately that is the real world we live in!. Customs and traditions are very hard to break!.

If you are a vegan it is probably best to avoid dining out unless you are willing to depart from your normal vegan diet!. Very few restaurants cater for vegans!.

I will not disparage you for your diet!. It's not my thing, but let me tell you how my friends and I handle this situation!. Some of us have food restrictions including vegetarianism, but also due to diabetes, allergies and other reasons!. So when we go out, we make sure that all options for the friends/family are available!. You are in Australia, we are in U!.S!. Perhaps our restaurants have more variety, but I find it hard to believe that you all went to two different restaurants and you could find nothing at all that you could eat there!. So I'm going to snipe at you!. You need to grow up a little!. You could have gone along with the plan, been much friendlier instead of glowering at people and sulking over a cup of tea, even if you actually could find nothing else to put in your mouth!. You're young, too, your family and friends are not yet used to your preferences!. Invite some of them out to a nice dinner at a place that you prefer, always hoping that something there will appeal to them also!. (Ever polite, honey, ever polite!.!.!.) Eventually, as you all get older together, some of this stuff will come together better for you!. But you gotta work it, dear!. And you know what I mean, my friend from LGBT, YOU gotta work it!.!.!.
Auntie KookooWww@FoodAQ@Com

You're lifestyle choice is retarded!. Its your choice, but a lot of people will give you crap for being a moron and not eating meat/dairy!. Vegan diets are actually NOT healthy and while your family's diet is not healthy either, you're going to the opposite extreme!. Human beings are meant to eat a reasonable and varied diet of meats, vegetables, fruit, grains, and dairy!. Learn to eat a healthy diet instead of jumping onto the nearest fad!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
