I'm about to make this very hard for you!.

It has to satisfy the craving for protein and the craving for salt!.

It has to do so without resorting to soy or gluten because I have a child with allergies!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm going to say there is no substitute for bacon, yes it is salty and protein, but those two things are only the start of why bacon is so good!.

Your best bet is bacon bits or something like that, they are not made with bacon and are mostly soy protein with smoke flavor added, they also salty!. Additionally you could make fake bacon with kosher salt and liquid smoke, if you could find a substitute for the actual pork!.

Instead of having bacon, maybe you could just do eggs and soldiers!.

Eggs and soldiers use to be my favourite breakfast as a child!.

You are still getting protein from the eggs!. A filling and hearty breakfast if ever there was one!.

You can use fresh avocado instead of butter (avocados contain more protein than cows milk) to spread on the soldiers, with a sprinkle of salt to satisfy the cravings!. You can also use gluten-free bread for the soldiers:

Unfortunately when you have allergies you sometimes have to totally give up favourite foods and find something more suitable!. So the family members concerned may just have totally embrace and accept these new limitations and radically change their breakfast habits!. And it always helps if the rest of the family encourages them by eating the same food (makes less work for mum & dad too!)

Personally I don’t “replace” bacon!.

I don’t have craving for protein or salt, so my answer is very easy!.

I have home-made carrot and orange juice for breakfast!. I then follow this up with a big bowl of fresh fruit (i!.e!.) mangoes, strawberries, blueberries, peaches etc…

And if I get peckish late morning, I will have a banana or some home-made fruit leather rollups!.

Maybe you need to get a bit more variety into your breakfast routine!.

1/8 cup water
firm tofu slices aprrox!. 1!.8th" thick!.

Heat oil in a cast iron pan!. Add tofu and fry turning until browned!.
(The tofu tends to get unstuck as it gets alittle uncooked!.)
Mix the remaining ingredients and pour over the tofu!.

You're right, it is your family, and YOU'RE the one cooking!. So feed them what's good for them, not just what they want!. What they like to eat (eggs/pancakes&bacon) is pretty terrible for them already, why are you doing that to your family!?

Sub out a bowl of fresh fruit instead of bacon and tell them to deal with it!. If they don't want to eat what you make, they don't have to eat!. Simple as that!.

P!.S!. No one "craves" protein!. It's a nutrient found in everything, apples and carrots have !.5 grams of protein each, do you crave those for their protein!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
