Phrasing and logic aside, I think I can answer this question!.

"Why become Vegan/vegetarian!?"
I became disabled in the Marine Corps!. It's permanent and there's no cure, just sedatives and muscle relaxants, and that's no way to live!. I read that a raw vegan diet can help!. Figured I had nothing to lose!.!.!.and it's not cured, but it is better!.

To address the "everyone's doing it anyway" question, you gotta ask yourself how much you're doing this to "make a difference" and how much you do to live with yourself!. For example, just because murder will happen anyway doesn't mean you have to be okay with it or participate!. Just because people will speed doesn't mean that you have to speed, too!. Just because people will watch a popular show on television doesn't mean you have to, too!. Now, you abstaining isn't going to stop everyone else from doing it, but it means that you are following your gut!. You are taking your life and choices into your own hands and doing what you believe is right on a personal level!. That doesn't give you the right to yell at people who don't agree!.!.!.but you do have the right to sit back and abstain!.

The same is true with eating meat!. People who aren't comfortable with it will abstain from eating it!. Or the same with buying things from other countries, or buying things from companies that use sweat shop labor!. You're not going to eliminate sweat shops by abstaining from purchasing products, but you can wake up every morning and know that what you wear and use wasn't made by 7 year-old kids getting paid a penny a day!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are right on the point that humans most likely will never stop eating meat!.But!.!.!.I became a vegetarian after seeing the horrors that take place on factory farms!.Even though I told my family about what abuses take place!.!.!.they still choose to eat meat!.I won't push them because it is their own personal choice to make!.My choice is to not eat meat!.Because I cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering of these animals!.All I want is for animals to be treated with respect and dignity before they become someone's meal!.It helps me to know that I am not contributing to the horrible abuse animals have to endure!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

cow's milk is made for baby cows!. not human babies!. it is designed to make a calf gain 2000 pounds in a year!. imagine how that wrecks havoc in a human's body!. and people steal it from the cows anyway!.
yeah and like the other girl said, i don't want to be part of the problem!. and i would not be able to sleep at night knowing there was animal body parts and animals' secretions floating around in my stomach!. sick!
i'd rather live a peaceful life and not cause any animal to die or suffer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try applying to that argument to anything else, and it will not work, which is sort of funny!. For example, humans murder each other all the time, and it is unlikely that murder will ever stop!. Does that mean you should go around killing people!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Murderers exist!. They will always exist!.

Does this mean I should start killing people just because the practice has and will always be around!. My not killing people doesn't stop the murderers from killing!. Does this mean I should abandon my self-restraint and start offing people!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

who really cares if someone is vegetarian or not!. if someone doesn't want to eat it then don't make a big deal about it!. grow up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

same here, i dont like the fact that an animals life has been taken just so i could eat it!. i dont preach it to others but thats how i feel Www@FoodAQ@Com

i do it for myself
to know i am helping in some way
small things go a long way
that is less animals deadWww@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with what Jennifer said!.
I don't choose to not eat meat to change anyone else!. I do it for myself!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not vegetarian, but I stopped eating meat for a different reason!.

Muslims can eat meat, but not from an animal that has been abused, electrified, jabbed with a pitchfork, etc!. We're not even allowed to slaughter an animal in front of another because that would scare them!. We're in no way supposed to abuse or harm them, and the slaughter is supposed to be as painless as possible!.

This actually would make more sense to anti-veggie people!. I'm not trying to stop people from eating meat, but if we stop eating meat from abused animals, the meat industry would have to reform their actions!.

Then again, people will accuse the "religious right" of "imposing their beliefs on others!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

"Why become Vegan/vegetarian!?"

-More than 27 billion animals are killed for food every year in the U!.S!. alone!. Animals in factory farms have no legal protection from cruelty that would be illegal if it were inflicted on dogs or cats, including neglect, mutilations, genetic manipulation, drug regimens that cause chronic pain and crippling, transport through all weather extremes, and gruesome and violent slaughter!.

-Farmed animals are no less intelligent or capable of feeling pain than are the dogs and cats we cherish as our companions!. They are inquisitive, interesting individuals who value their lives, solve problems, experience fear and pain, and are capable of using tools!. According to animal-behavior scientists, chickens begin learning from their mothers while they are still in their shells, pigs can play video games better than some primates can, and fish form social bonds and can remember things that they have learned for the human equivalent of 40 years!.

-Vegetarian foods provide us with all the nutrients that we need, minus the saturated fat, cholesterol, and contaminants that are found in meat, eggs, and dairy products!. Plant-based diets protect us against heart disease, diabetes, obesity, strokes, and several types of cancer!. Vegetarians also have stronger immune systems and, on average, live 10 years longer than meat-eaters do!.

-America’s meat addiction is poisoning and depleting our potable water, arable land, and clean air!. More than half the water used in the United States goes to animal agriculture, and since farmed animals produce 130 times more excrement than the human population does, the run-off from their waste greatly pollutes our waterways!.

-Raising animals for food is extremely inefficient—for every pound of food that they eat, only a fraction of the calories are returned in the form of edible flesh!. If we stopped intensively breeding farmed animals and grew crops to feed humans instead, we would easily be able to feed every human on the planet with healthy and affordable vegetarian foods!.

-Human Rights Watch has declared that slaughterhouse workers have “the most dangerous factory job in America!.” The industry has refused to do what’s necessary to create safe working conditions for its employees, such as slowing down slaughter lines and supplying workers with appropriate safety gear, because these changes could cut into companies’ bottom lines!.

-Factory farms pollute the air and water for many miles in every direction, often spreading contamination and illness to the people who live and work nearby!. Chronic sickness, brain damage, poisoned waterways, elevated cancer rates, and even death plague these communities, while the government does nothing to protect citizens or regulate the industry!.

"Even though you become vegetarian/Vegan!. Its not going to stop everyone from eating meat!. And people are still going to abuse animals and such!. None of that is ever going to stop!. There will always BE someone eating meat!. So in the end!.!.!. how would it help!?"

-Even though you don't molest children, it's not going to stop other people from doing it!. And people are still going to abuse children and it's never going to stop!. There will always be someone raping a child!. So in the end, how would you NOT abusing a child help!?

"Or making milk (don't you need milk for your children!. (not everyone likes to breast feed) or cheese or whatsoever!."

-I have to admit I don't really understand this question!. I've never met any adult who still sucks milk out of their mother's breasts!. And no, children past the age of infancy don't need milk, and those who are still infants need their mother's milk, not the milk of a cow!. No, we don't need cheese!. Dairy products are a health hazard!. They contain no fiber or complex carbohydrates and are laden with saturated fat and cholesterol!. They are contaminated with cow's blood and pus and are frequently contaminated with pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics!. Dairy products are linked to allergies, constipation, obesity, heart disease, cancer, and other diseases!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am vegan and I feel that if I am not eating any dairy products or meat then I am doing my part by not supporting and advocating for change!. People ask me and then maybe I will alter their views on animal cruelty by my actions and they will change!. Just because I can't stop the whole world from not eating meat doesn't mean I shouldn't do it!. I love being vegan because I know I'm helping in a tiny way!. And by eating vegan products I am supporting smaller companies rather then large ones like walmart who give their workers bad benefits and pay, and who ruin the environment and have people in india making clothes for a dollar per day!. Being vegan is a life style change that effects every part of you!. You begin to think more globally and environmentally!. And anyone who feels like that about it is in for the health and good treatment of everything in the world, not just to be part of the trend!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Haven't you ever heard the saying, "If you aren't part of the solution you are part of the problem"!? I became a vegetarian b/c the thought of eating an animal for my own enjoyment made me feel disgusting!. It's like, "Yippee! That cow was just raised for the sole purpose of being killed and fed to me!" Not to mention the fact that they treat animals terribly in slaughterhouses!. I know there will never be a point when everyone quits eating meat, I mean, seriously, who would ever think that!? But, it's just a choice I made and I completely believe in! Kinda like, you choose not to be a crackhead (i'm assuming)!. Well, you know that not everyone will choose not to be a crackhead but, you do it b/c you know it's wrong to be a crackhead!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just FYI, when you start saying things like "you people", it's hard not to take offense!.

Vegetarians don't think they'll stop everyone from eating meat!.
But, if we don't stand by our beliefs, what good are they!?
Just one person can change the world!. And when those 'just one person' people stand up and group together, it creates change!.

I know I've made dozens of people rethink their meat consumption!. I know I've made dozens of people reduce their meat consumption!. I know that because I don't eat meat, hundreds of animals aren't being born and slaughtered every year to feed me!.

Why did I become vegetarian!?
Reason one was because I realized that 15 minutes of my pleasure in eating animal flesh was not worth the life of that animal!. '
Reason two is that I could never kill an animal for that pleasure!. Anyone who can has serious issues!. And because I can't make that kill, it's hypocritical of me to close my eyes while someone else does it!.

No, fruit and veggies are not hard on my digestive system!. Meat rotting in your colon - hard on your digestive system!. And meat eaters have a significantly higher rate of stomach cancer and colon cancer; talk about hard on your system!.

If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem!. By your logic, everyone should just follow everyone else and not try to make a difference or to be a better person!. Sorry, but I can't do that!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Veg*ns follow that dietary style for many reasons!. For those of us who ascribe to it b/c of animal cruelty, we are well aware that our abstaining from eating meat will not stop others!. We also know that one person's dedication will not eliminate the cruelty!. Basically, we don't do it b/c we think we can single-handedly save the world!.
If everyone does a little something, then we can at least make a small difference!. Since the meat industry (like many others) is based on supply and demand, if we can reduce the demand, the need for the "supply" end will be reduced as well!.

I admit, I am a bit selfish in my choice to be a vegan!. I partially do it for spiritual/cruelty/health reasons!. I love my body and I want to only put good things in it!. To me, that does not include dead animals or their by-products!. I honestly don't care what others eat!. It's their decision to eat meat!. Just like it's mine to not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Are you very young!? No one ever said being a vegan will stop all animals from being killed, and that isn't my personal goal!. I don't want to personally contribute to the suffering of animals in industrial farming, and I choose not to kill animals because I like animals!. I wouldn't eat your dog or cat either!. By your logic, people might as well keep killing other people also, because there will always be people who kill people!. Cow milk is for baby cows!. They are kept in a continual state of pregnancy and birth so they will produce milk!. Then their babies are taken away from them, and the milk is used for you!. Many of the male babies are chained into crates and killed for veal!. Instead of being able to be with her baby and feed her, a cow is hooked up to a stainless steel machine for you and denied motherhood!. When they no longer produce enough milk for farmer Bob or they become ill from being in a constant cycle of pregnancy, they are killed and go into your hamburger at a relatively young age!. You may do that!. I'm not going to do that!. A human mother's breast milk is for human babies!. Cows don't drink that either!. Nor do cows drink cow milk when they are older!. I don't for the life of me know why someone would not want to feed her baby human breast milk, as it's proven that is much better for a baby!.

There are other reasons besides animals to eat less meat!. It's better for the environment (even though with your logic, everyone might as well drive Hummers and not use energy efficient appliances or light bulbs, because not everyone in the world will do so)!. A study at the University of Chicago said a plant-based diet drops your carbon footprint by 1 1/2 to 2 tons per person per year!. Not to mention all of the other pollution caused by the massive amounts of livestock raised around the world to support human beings!.

Vegan diets require less land and other resources that would otherwise sustain an overpopulation of animals to support an overpopulation of human beings!. Over 15,000 children die every day from starvation and malnutrition!. President-elect Obama has said on his campaign in response to a question from a vegan that eating less meat would benefit the food supply because it takes much more grain to make a pound of meat than if you just eat the grain yourself!. It puts a huge strain on the food supply!. People tend to not think or care about that, as long as they can shove massive amounts of food down their own throats!. He said we could all benefit from a change in diet, even though he is not currently vegan!. By the way, if you eat LESS meat, it also makes a difference!.

Many people choose to eat vegetarian for health reasons!.

There are other reasons that have been answered in questions endlessly!.!.!. look around at some of the other questions and answers!.!.
