Question for vegans, i would appreciate your help and input?!
well today i read a question that asked others if they where conferable with eating meat!. then that person literally called people out in the additional details feature and said how wrong they where!. so that made me think!. i don't want to generalize my views of vegans through this one person who is clearly insane!.
could you tell me why you became a vegan and your views on other people eating meat!? are you conferable knowing people that eat meat, or are your friends exclusively vegans!? how long have you committed to this lifestyle!? do you eat dairy!?
thanks for anything you have to say :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I don't eat dairy!. I don't eat anything that came from an animal!.
I have been a vegan since January 2008!. I'd been a vegetarian for 5 years before that!.
I initially turned vegetarian after reading Eric Schlosser's "Fast Food Nation"!. The described animal cruelty made me cry!. My first reason was b/c of cruelty!. I did some more research and found that a meatless diet can be really healthy!. So, I adopted that and spirituality as my other two motivating factors for abstaining from meat!.
I don't mind others eating meat!. It's their decision; just like not eating meat is mine!. I would like it if everyone knew the horrors of factory farms and what the animals go through to become "dinner", but I don't preach to anyone!. I share information when I'm asked!. Otherwise, I live and let live!.
I'm the only non meat-eater in my circle of friends!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not vegan but one of my closest friends is!. She started it for lent (religious thing where one gives up something for the forty days before Easter!.!.!.mainly a Catholic thing but others do it too) and like it!. It also got her reading a bunch of materials about being vegan and why people do it and just decided that it was right for her, I guess!. But she doesn't really care what all of her friends eat!.!.!.For Thanksgiving, she had tofurkey while the rest of us ate ham and turkey and mac-and-cheese!. It's just kind of like everything else!. Some atheist refuse to hang around religious people and vice versa while there still more that are tolerant of others and just get on with life!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
i have been vegan for 5+ years!. vegans do not eat dairy!. most of my friends are vegan!. i do not sit at a table where a body of an abused and murdered animal is being served!.
if i am in a situation where carcasses are served!. i'll eat in another room, or eat before everyone and go do something while others are eating!. it just is too nasty to watch others eat animalsWww@FoodAQ@Com

I became a vegan when i was ten years old!. I became a vegan because i saw the cruelty animals had to go through in the slaugther house!. Ever since then i made a pledge to veg!. None of my friends and family support me so i hardly ever talk or deal with them!. I don't like the fact people eat meat!. So i spend my time by myself!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
i'm not vegan, but i am vegetarian (i eat dairy) and im the only vegetarian in my family, so it doesn't bother me when others eat meat around me, actually my brother is the opposite of me!. i don't think i've ever seen him eat a fruit or vegetable, besides the lettuce he puts on his donairs and hamburgers Www@FoodAQ@Com
I stopped eating dairy and eggs because both things support the meat industry and the animals are treated like sh*t - they get the maximum profit out of them and then their time is up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I second what hellinore_rigby said, I agree and I have the same views!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I'm a fairly new vegan, haven't even hit two months!. But I like it and I'm comfortable with it!. I won't buy and new leather or wool but I'm still wearing my existing shoes and jumpers!. I have to, they form part of my school uniform!. And it would be a waste if I threw them out!. I have made a few mistakes that I'm aware of and more that I am not!.
I have been a vegetarian for nearly three years and I became I vegan after I realised that eating dairy was contributing to the beef and veal industry!. I honestly hadn't realised that male calves were born and used for veal!. It's not that I thought only females were born, I just didn't make a connection!. When I'm asked I just say that humans are the only mammal that drinks another mammal's milk!.
I stopped eating eggs after being told that when chickens are used just for eggs that their bodies fail after a few years and they go to slaughter!. They are then used in dog food and chicken stock!. I'm not comfortable with that so I stopped eating eggs!.
I still live with omnivores!. I have been preparing my vegan meal at the same time that my mam has cooked the family dish!. I hate the look of raw meat and the smell of cooking meat, but I tolerate it!. Almost all my friends eat meat!. I'm friends with all the other vegetarians in my year, all three of them! I don't know another vegan!. I think I would hug them if I knew they were a vegan!. I don't think they'd be too happy though!.

I was vegan from March 2005-October 2007!. In October 2007, I became vegetarian, as I occasionally eat a dairy product or something with egg!.
I became vegan initially because of animal cruelty!. I don't agree with the way our country slaughters animals; they could do it humanely, but the fact is, they don't!. So I didn't want to support that!.
While animal cruelty is still a main reason, I also am vegetarian for the health benefits!. Too many hormones and antibiotics are in meat!. Yes, I'm aware that pesticides are all over the fruits and veggies I eat, but I can't stop eating those, too =]
As far as my opinion on people who eat meat, I don't judge them negatively because of it!. Granted, I would love to have some vegetarian and vegan friends!.!. but I'm ok with my meat eating ones =]
My boyfriend eats meat occasionally (doesn't really like the texture)!.!. but he has commented in favor of my non-meat eating!. In terms of better tasting bodily fluids!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i became a vegan because i don't see any difference in rights between humans and any other animals!. some people eat cows but won't eat dogs!. just seems a odd line to draw between what is ok to eat and what isn't!. it is like i can't understand why meat eaters oppose abortion as they are regularly responsible for the death of a life!.
an additional reason for me if that it seemed completely natural to me!. I always hated the texture of meat, the smell and taste of milk products and the thought of eating a chicken period just seemed gross to me!.
so a combination of disgust at eating other animal secretions and not liking them anyway plus believing that every animal has the right to its own life!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
