Whats wrong with being a vegetarian?!
Im so upset right now because I always have pressure on my back and im only 13!. I wanted to change and do something good for the Earth but when I told my mom I was she said I was going to get fat!. I need help!? Whats wrong with being a vegetarian!? Is it because of my age!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

You wont get fat because you get fat from the amount of Kilojoules you eat not what you eat!.

There is nothing wrong with being a vegeatrian; some people are just un-informed about it and think they know better than you but don't even try to educate themselves about why you have made this choice!. maybe get some material together from vegetarian websites about how you will help animals, the earth and be healthy (try PETA) and show your mom to show her you have made an informed decision!. You won't get fat if you eat healthily and it is fine to be a vegetarian at any age as long as you get enough protein!. Research what food you will get you protein from (for example beans) as protein build and repairs in you body and at thirteen you will still be growing so will need more than an adult!. Parents and doctors think that a child that is vegetarian might not get adequate nutrition!. A vegetarian kid will substitute their normally meat meals with macaroni and the like, which is a higher fat content!. Thats where she got the youll get fatter idea!. But if you just recongize the face that its called vegetarian for a reason, and increase your intake of veggies and fruits, its a much healthier and environmentally friendly choice!. there's absolutely nothing wrong with being vegetarian!!.!.!.the only possible negative is that B-12 (or maybe it's B-6) is a nutrient that is only found in animal, but you can take a supplement for that!.!.!.!.you will not become fat by being a vegetarian unless you consume fake foods (cakes, chips, soda, etc)!.!.!.!.try to eat whole foods closest to their natural state (fresh fruits versus canned syrupy fruits) and the same with veggies!.!.!.opt for fresh versus canned if possible!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Do not listen to people on the internet, and ask your doctor or a registered dietitian-- people who actually went to school to learn nutrition instead of some of the idiots here who find it necessary to disagree with people who eat differently than they do!. People are afraid of things that are different/foreign!. That's why racism exists!. If you were to tell your mom you were gay/bi, a different religion, or a vegetarian/vegan/fruitarian, you're likely to face the same reaction from her!. It's sad, really!. She might be that way just because she herself knows she couldn't!. The only way to get past that is to make sure you adapt without forcing them to and let her know that she won't have to change anything!. Parents hate change!.
Make sure you get plenty of protein!. Nuts, peanut butter, etc!. That's one thing meat provides people forget about!.

ask her for evidence that it will absolutely make you fat!. if there is anything wrong with being vegetarian it is that the egg and dairy industries are said by some people to be even more cruel than the meat industry!. so it doesn' go far enough in preventing cruelty!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is not natural!. Humans are omnivores and are designed to eat everything including meat!. I work with a vegetarian and he has to find ways to supplement what he is missing from his diet since he does not eat meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
