I need to do something interesting with tofu?!
I don't really cook with tofu that much, if ever!. If I eat it it would be in a food (soy sausage, vegan pasta sauce etc) but for some reason I bought a firm block yesterday since I wanted to try something out with it!.
Does anyone know something interesting, basic and nice I could do with it!? I'm only eating it since I want to try to cook some tofu on my own!.
(I am vegan, so no dairy, egg, gelatin etc products thanks)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
make it into or part of a dessert:
make a "chocolate mousse" using silk tofu, melted bittersweet vegan chocolate (and appropriate sweetener if desired)!. the tofu will replace the cream in traditional choco mousse recipes!.
Either serve by itself in a glass with vegan "cream" or a pastry shell like pie or
poach pears with the core of the bottoms hollowed out, then pipe tofu chocolate mousse inside the pears!. Set on a plate and serve with fruit puree/preserve or coulis (we use blueberry coulis in the restaurant) or vegan ice cream!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

The stir-fry is probably the easiest!. Get some extra-firm, drain and press it (just put it under a cookie sheet or heavy frying pan with a couple of cans on top) for awhile!.
You could also bake it!. Make a marinade with some cornstarch in it and then bake it, or fry it!. It'll get all nice and crispy on the outside and stay soft inside!. If you drain it and then freeze it for 24 hours (then thaw) it will be chewier!.
That's my best suggestion!. If you're not in a stir-fry mood, you could cook the tofu as suggested above and throw it into a curry!. (You can also just dice it and put it in, but I like the texture if you pre-cook it first!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you're going to try that, make sure you rinse and squeeze the water out!. Tofu has kind of a funky taste and texture to it unless it's drained, rinsed, has a lot of the water squeezed out of it, and soaked in something with flavor!. But people seem to like just breaking it up, squeezing as much of the excess water out as possible, ,breaking it up and frying it with oil til it's browned -- with veggies as the other person mentioned!. Try looking for scrambled tofu recipes!. I may try this recipe next!. http://theppk!.com/recipes/dbrecipes/inde!.!.!. or something like it, and try making breakfast burritos!. I'd like to find an ingredient to hold it all together like an egg----- but without the egg!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Get a good big Ziploc bag!. Put about 1 cup flour, 3 T corn starch, some salt, pepper, lemon pepper and celery salt in the bag!. Zip shut and shake well!. In a saucepan, heat about 2 Tablespoons olive oil!. Cut the tofu into chunks and place in the bag!. Shake well and gently pick out the tofu!. Fry it up until the sides are golden brown and eat over asian noodles or rice!. YUM! I do it all the time, it's actually really filling!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
cut it into cubes and stir fry it with some veggies, add soy sauce, and eat it over rice!. mmmWww@FoodAQ@Com
it's really good deep-fried!.!.!. cut it into cubes, deep fry it and serve with a soy sauce or a peanut sauce!.!.!. yummmm!Www@FoodAQ@Com
