My boyfriend and I just hosted vegan, gluten-free Thanksgiving!. Asking out families to go without turkey was a bit of a challenge, but we just wowed them with fantastic food!. One of the most delicious main-course things that we made was a Butternut Squash and Celery Root Gratin with Walnut-Thyme Streusel!. It was sooooooo tasty!. People could not stop raving about it!
The recipe is one that I found and then altered to be vegan and gluten-free!. Since you don't need to be gluten-free you can just use regular bread crumbs for the topping, as long as they are from vegan bread!.
Here's the link to the adapted recipe: http://inmybox!.wordpress!.com/2008/12/06/!.!.!. Just scroll down through the long post and you'll come to the recipe!
Here's the rest of our menu from vegan Thanksgiving, for some other ideas and inspirations: http://inmybox!.wordpress!.com/2008/11/30/!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Roasted potatoes with herbs, and vegan butter!? savory
I make the CUTEST mice for Christmas treats (I don't know how you feel about eating animal shaped stuff, but I'm not trying to be a smart *** :o)
Take a maraschino cherry with the stem still on and dip it in chocolate!. Then take a chocolate kiss, and press it to the non-stem end to look like the mouse's head!. Take 2 almond slivers and attach them as ears at the top of the kiss, then a red candy sprinkle for the nose, and two green or blue candy sprinkles for eyes :o)!.
Wait, can vegans eat chocolate!? Surely there are vegan versions of these things :o) Good luck Www@FoodAQ@Com
