If people support eating meat, why are they against animal cruelty?!
I overheard a conversation today that was very common but still odd to me!. Two people were talking about how much they loved meat (one even mentioned buying a live animal to kill at home)!. Yet when the conversation turned to someone who had killed their cat, they talked about how sick and disgusting it was!.
I only know of one person who would definitely eat any kind of animal, including a cat or dog because he sees them all as animals!. But how can people who eat meat be against the death of only some animals!? It's not like cats and other domesticated animals aren't eaten somewhere around the world!.
This question is open to everyone but I'm a vegetarian so a meat eaters perspective would be nice!. Thanks!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Many people identify food with the end product only!. Very few have witnessed or performed the slaughtering and butchering process!.
They have, however, spent hours playing with their pets!.
There is also the differentiation between killing for food and killing for other reasons!. Senseless killing vs justified killing, so to speak!.
Please realize that most people have never taken a really good look at themselves!. If you hear hypocritical or immature conversations it is sometimes better to just move out of earshot!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think meat eaters will see consuming animals as "necessary"--the animals are killed for their nourishment!. It's what I used to believe before I became veg and realized I don't need to eat animals' flesh or use their milk and eggs!.
However, harming a cat for "fun," testing cosmetics on animals, or animal in entertainment--there is no "need" for it, so they may oppose those forms of cruelty!. Some may see leather as a byproduct of the beef industry and therefore less objectionable than fur, where animals are raised solely for their pelts!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

When a human lives with animals, then slowly he starts understanding
the animal!. he even often can understand the needs of the animal!.
he starts having a heart connection with that creature!.
But when a human doesn't has animals around him, he naturally cant love and understand them!.
when a non-veg!. eats meat and complains that a cat or dog was tortured, then that's normal because he can only love and understand a dog or cat because he lived with those creatures!. And the chicken on his plate is not familiar to him!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

well, as a meat eater, I would not be dead set against eating whatever meat it was (as long as it wasn't from an endangered species)!. If I went to the orient and someone offered me cat or dog, I would try it!. But I am against cruelty to animals and believe that animals who are to be put down for us to eat should be done so in a humane way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
well ill bet you wear something Leather like you're shoes!. i love animals i have a macaw Parrot and a dog and cat !. none of which are a a source of food for any meat eater!. wish all vegans would get off the high horse thinking you're better cause you don't kill animals!.its funny you guys buy organic!. if it comes from the ground its organic stick a label on it charge a butt load of money for it people like you will buy it !.Www@FoodAQ@Com
i know!. this is the backward and twisted world in which we live!.
i know many "kitty cat and doggy" people who rescue and help those types of animals and then go home and give no thought about the animal that is on their plate!.
they have been had by the meat and dairy industries who put out so many commercials, billboards!. ads and such!. people do not make the connection that all the animals feel pain and suffer

Pets are one thing, chickens, pigs, etc!., specifically raised for food is another!.
Let me ask you a question:
Why do vegetarians (in this forum especially) seem to care only for factory farm animals, you know, the ones raised specifically for slaughter, and not other animals!? IE: Deer getting mashed on the highways!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a vegetarian and obviously against animal cruelty!.
But you can eat animals without cruelty and them suffering!.
Free range animals have a nice enough life and are killed humanely where they don't feel anything!. That isn't cruel!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sentimentality - people have it in abundance for domesticated animals such as cats and dogs and even horses, but a cow is beef, a pig is bacon, and a sheep is lamb!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yeah! To be honest, Michael Vick drowning his pit bull is nothing compared to all the pigs(who by the way are more itelligent)who drown in a tank of boiling water on a daily basis!. If those were dogs boy would people be upset!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Just because you eat meat doesn't mean you have to support cruelty to animals!. I believe animals should be treated humanely, even those that are used for meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It's called hypocrisy my dear!. People think it's okay to treat other animals besides common pets unfairly!. So they eat one animal and care for another!. Strange creatures we humans are!. *sighs*Www@FoodAQ@Com
I eat meat and I do not like true cruelty but killing an unwanted cat or dog does not necessarily rise to cruelty in my eyes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
just because people like to eat meat does not mean they are heartless, and like the idea of cruelty to animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
because animals need to be treated better!.

because people see different animals different ways!.!.!.they see some as animals to eat and others as animals to play with!.!.!.as for around the world it is a cultural difference!.!.!.in some countries they think nothing of eating a horse!.!.!.where in others horses are seen soley at transportation and others they are seen solely as pets!.!.!.
as for why people can be upset about killing a cat and not upset about killing a cow!.!.!.is because the person who murdered the cat did not intend to eat it they did it out of pure malice!.!.!.!.
when i was in high school i had a friend whose dad got him a BB gun!.!.!.he was teaching him to shoot cans!.!.!.because they lived in the woods and often had rabid raccons and skunks try to attack them so they needed to shoot to defend themselves!.!.!.well one day he decided to shoot at a squirrel!.!.!.!.his father believing no animal should die unless it is for survival told him if the squirrel died he was going to have to cook it and eat it for dinner!
now i know you dont think eating a cow from the supermarket is not "for survival" but in many times in history!.!.!.meat was the only things humans had to eat and it is what got out species to survive!.!.!.!.
also i know a lot of "vegetarians" who will eat sea food!.!.!.!.personally i dont understand how an animal from the water is different from one on the land!.!.!.but there are a lot who seem to think it makes a difference!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't really buy into the whole "animals are put here for us thing!." Seems a little selfish!. I see us as caretakers of the planet, but we suck at that evidently!.
I accept the idea that you have to kill to eat, although some people manage to avoid this through diet!. Still, I don't see animals as being put here for us, as if our amusement would justify us killing them or torturing them!. So we have to kill certain animals!. To do this, we raise them for that purpose and try to make their lives before death decent!.
But no, I don't see animals as either "food" or "pet!." I think they have an independent right to live!. People can be sick, they like the act of killing for killings sake!. Or they justify killing because "they eat it after!." No need is involved!. I've never understood the "need" to kill bobcats and bears but people hunt them!. People killing animals for sport, like dog fighting or just hitting a cat on the road on purpose, probably have serious mental issues!.
By the way, I can understand that in other cultures other animals are raised for food!. Fine, same difference, it isn't the variety of animal that matters!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Animals are put here for us!. Some are pets, some are food, not all animals are the same!.
Killing or abusing any animal just because you are lazy, cruel or bored is bad!. Killing an animal for food is not the same thing!.
I see no difference in eating plants or animals, both are alive, and we have to eat something!. Some studies have shown plants feel pain too!. You think its different because it doesn't have a face!? You are still cutting up and eating something that was alive!.
To me vegetarians that think killing animals for food is wrong are hypocrites!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

the meat eater argument seems to be that killing animals for food is okay!. however, if they find the mistreatment of pets so disgusting, how can they eat the flesh on their plate when it comes from an animal that is born and raised tortured till death!? i'm a vegan, and i'm sorry but there is no sense to a meat eater's argument!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Cats and dogs are more intelligent than cows and things (although they are intelligent too)!. The bigger a creature's brain, the more sentient it is!. That's why humans can feel the slightest touch on their skin, but things like invertebrates often can't!. So out of all the species, humans feel the most pain!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Because some people are smart enough to distinguish between a companion animal and a food animal!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
