Vegan question, please help?!

Question: Vegan question, please help!?
I recently turned from vegetarian to vegan!. Half a block from where I live there's a Mexican restaurant where I sometimes order regular burrito with wheat tortilla and just lettuce, rice and refried beans!. I also get their chips (Mexican chips, I don't know that's called) with mild salsa!.

Can I still order the same meal (even though I am now a vegan)!?

How will I know if the restaurant is vegan friendly!? If I ask them, I am sure, they will say that they are vegan friendly!.

Thanks a lot for your help

Any time you do not prepare your own meals you are at the mercy of others!. In my opinion a true vegan would try to avoid all but dedicated vegan restaurants!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have been vegetarian since the age of 6 (I'm now 36) and was vegan for 5 years until about 6 months ago :( I found that if I said I was vegan at a restaurant, they got kind of irritated and I was not sure if they were all telling the truth but if I said I was lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy they went out of their way to help!.

Congratulations of becoming vegan - I hope it lasts a long, long time!!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You need to find out if those beans are even vegetarian!. Authentic Mexican refries use lard!.

Oh, and get the hot salsa!!

Black beans---you'll still have to ask at the restaurant!. The first few entries in a Yahoo search had a couple that used bacon!. Just ask!. Tell them you are severely allergic to make sure they don't bullshit you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Tell them you have a friend who is severely allergic to eggs and dairy and ask them if there are any in the burritos!. If they lie, they know they could potentially kill your friend, so they'll tell the truth!.

Refried beans usually don't have lard!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I can't really help you with your main question, but if you are wondering, typical chips found at Mexican restaurants are called "tortilla chips"!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Many Mexican restaurants use Olive oil instead of lard for re-fried beans, but they may cook the beans initially with salt pork or ham hocks!. Just ask if they use pork or lard in the beans, don't tell them why!.

If you don't know completely, don't eat it!. Even if I am 99% sure what I want to eat is vegan, I just won't do it if there is an ounce of doubt!. It's not worth it!!

Good luck :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cheese and lard at the two main ingredients you have to worry about at Mexican restaurants!. Just ask them if lard, or other meat products, are used in the re fried beans or rice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

check about the wheat tortilla!.!.
some that are from the store contain milk!.!. i think!.
but typically they are vegan!. the ones from taco bell are vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it sounds vegan
yes!. i would ask them if they fry in lard!.
i hope they don't!.

the chips are called tortilla chipsWww@FoodAQ@Com

As long as it doesn't have cheese in it, you're good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

maybe ask if there's lard in the refried beans!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
