Answers:
Well, sometimes you have to, and sometimes you don't!. I'm a semi-vegetarian(I don't eat red meat, but I eat white meat), and my parents eat A LOT of red meat, so I don't eat meat that much at all, besides chicken and ham here and there!. And I have never taken a supplement!. Here's a list of things I go by:

-PROTEIN
Plant proteins should provide for you enough, as long as you make sure your calorie intake is high enough for your energy needs!.
-MORE AMINO ACIDS
If plant proteins simply aren't enough, try eating whole grains, nuts or seeds!.
-IRON
If you're not totally vegan, egg yolk provides iron well!. However, dried beans, dried fruits, and spinach are good sources as well!.
-VITAMIN B 12
This only comes naturally from animals!. It can be found in some fortified (not enriched) breakfast cereals such as Total and some brands of nutritional brewer's yeast, or in supplements!.
-VITAMIN D
You will need a reliable vitamin D source!. If you don't get a lot of sunlight, you'll need a supplement!.
-CALCIUM
Studies have shown that vegetarians absorb and retain more calcium than meat eaters!. Cool, huh!? Calcium can be found in greens such as spinach, kale and broccoli, and some legumes and soybean products!.
-ZINC
Grains, nuts and legumes are good sources!. If you chose to take a supplement, be sure to pick supplements containing no more than 15-18 mg zinc!. Supplements containing 50 mg or more may lower HDL ("good") cholesterol in some people!.

--And some more tips--
Keep your intake of sweets and fatty foods to a minimum!. These foods are low in nutrients and high in calories!.
Choose whole or unrefined grain products when possible, or use fortified or enriched cereal products!.
Use a variety of fruits and vegetables, including foods that are good sources of vitamins A and C!.
If you use milk or dairy products, choose fat-free/nonfat and low-fat varieties!.
Eggs are high in cholesterol (213 mg per yolk), so monitor your use of them!. Limit your cholesterol intake to no more than 300 mg per day!.

Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Please before you go vegan to some serious researching!. People might recommend you to have soy as a source for b-12 but this is beyond unhealthy!. Soy causes your body to need more b - 12 and the b- 12 fortified with soy is not absorb at all!. Do some research about Weston Price who studied native people who's live who's conditions haven't changed for years !.They ate the food that nature provided adn were healthy because of it!. They had no genetically engineered vitimins and they ate meat yet they had no hard disease or any form of cancer!. They had no dergentive diseases at all!. Do some research about how Weston Price studied a native vegan tribe in India they were amongst the unhealthiest frailiest people with the lowest healthy expectancy on Earth!.

If you care so much about animals I reccomend Organic meat it is much healthier and safer they are treated humanly and not injected with growth hormones!.

Get your health from healthy animals not geneticaly modified garbage!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

vegetables and fruit are the biggest supplier of vitamins anyway
there are loads of alternatives iv bin veggie for 12 years and actually never had a craving, even though ill admit i used to love meat, iv never been tempted once!. try quorn products, linda mcartney stuff, go into a good health shop and look in the freezer section!. u can still eat all ur favourite food, just keep trying different things and ul find sumtin u love!. iron is the one thing to watch out for, as is protein, but unless u go vegan, u can get protein from cheese or eggs, also nuts and beans!. iv never suffered any health problems due to being a veggie, and iv never put on any weight either despite eating lots of food!Www@FoodAQ@Com

you should always take multi-vitamins!.
there are plenty of vegetarian options for protein, like tofu, tempeh, seitan, plus nuts, beans, and legumes!. some dairy products, too!.!.!.cheese, yogurt, etc!.
vegetarianism is a very healthy option if you do your homework and make sure you are eating right!. plus it's good for the animals and our environment!
good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you don't get the proper nutrients you should!. If you eat properly though, regardless of your diet designation (except for B12 and vegans), you won't need vitamin supplements!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
