Why do vegatarians think it is so wrong to eat meat?!
I know you disagree with the killing of animals, but you are happy to drive round in cars polluting the environment, isnt that a bit hypocritical!? do any of you keep pets, ride horses etc!? what is your ACTUAL reason for not eating meat!?!? also what about animals that eat meat, eagles kill and eat meat, they also have a choice, other birds live off of nuts and seeds etc!. do vegetarians frown upon this as well!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I can't speak for 'all'!. I only speak for myself!.
I make my own choices for my own reasons to eat a vegetarian diet!. I don't judge nor do I suggest anything negative about others that have not made the same choice!.
I do not shun nor am I aggressive towards those that haven't made the same choice!.
It isn't a requirement for someone to be friends with me or to have a relationship of any sort to share my personal belief or way of life!.
My choices are just that - my choices!. I do not bind them on others nor require that others follow them!. I have been vegetarian off and on again since I was 17-18 mostly because the pay was so bad in the military that it was the only option of eating (talking over 30 years ago)!. I now eat that way because of negative interaction with medications that I take!.
Can animals be treated better!? Of course! Does that mean that everyone has to make a dietary choice decided upon by me (or anyone else)!? No!
The downside to cover statements such as you are suggesting is that 'all' are that way when reality is that many are not!. There are actually MANY on this site even that date and are married to people that eat meat!. Such is a clear indicator that such blanket comments are far from accurate!.

Oh, for the record - my car gets 34 to 36 mpg driving intown!. Highway is MUCH HIGHER!.
EDIT: My dogs don't eat meat!. Neither do my birds!. Or fish for that matter!. What I believe that you are not seeing is that many see it as a personal choice!. While they make the choice not to eat animals, they aren't going to go 'postal' (or PETA maybe - joke there if you think about it) on someone just because they eat meat!.
It isn't about double standards!. It is about each individual making their own personal standard and living it and not binding it upon others!. Again, not all are going to view it this way!. But that doesn't negate the reality that there are many on here that really DO have relationships with others that consume meat and they don't hold such against them!.
In a mature relationship, such stands are not unheard of!. It isn't a double standard!. It is a standard that allows others the same right to make their own stand!.
EDIT: My vet is totally against canned foods for dogs or cats!. Not good for their teeth and usually not made up of quality meat - thus not good for them at all!. Maybe where you are at the canned food is different!. I live in the USA!. Here - not something that I would feed to any dog even if they were not mine and I didn't have an emotional attachment to them!. Dried food is better for them, and yes some of them actually have meat in the dried food - but not all!. There are brands of food for dogs that have no meat in them at all!. Cats - totally different as they do indeed have to have meat!.
For the record - both my dogs were rescue animals!. One from a puppy mill, the other was going to be put down because she is old and going blind and going deaf!. They also have a health plan and see their doctor on a regular basis!. Their life is anything but hard!. They have tents and special made mattresses to sleep on, a mini couch that is their size as well - too many toys to count!. I just spent $500 to improve my fence for the dog going blind to make sure she could not get out at all!. And no, they don't eat meat at all, the vet knows it and actually suggested a dog food for them to eat to keep them totally healthy - which they will pig out on if I were to allow them to!.
As to the standards that you write about of 'some' people that say that they are vegetarian - I totally understand your point!. I know what your talking about!. But you also have to understand that many on here are kids that have no real life experience, are still living at home, and have not come face to face with the reality of life!. Mom and Dad are still paying for everything and the choices that they have made by making the choice to support their child (even if they may not agree with them)!. Meaning - their choices and values have not really been tested!. My guess is that if you got the chance to talk to them a few years down the road you would find out that many of their comments would be softened and more open and understanding of others!. Sort of just happens when one has to get out on their own and have to be totally responsible for themselves, have to came face to face with the reality of living in a world that very well isn't going to totally agree with their viewpoints!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most if not all of them have never been in a position where they don't have many options!. Its easy to say, you don't need meat or milk or eggs or etc when Mommy gives you an allowance or Mommy prepares your food for you or that Trader Joe's and Whole Foods etc is just around the corner with shelves upon shelves of fresh local or imported produce!. When you are sitting in front of a computer feeling full after dinner, it's easy to forget that people may not be as fortunate as you are!. It would be easy to feel smug about the "saintly" choices you have made because of the options you have!.

I don't own a car, I catch the bus everywhere!. It's more that I can't drive and owning and maintaining one would be far too expensive!.
My dog was a shelter bound puppy when we got her!. She might be in a nice loving home is we hadn't picked her but then again she mightn't!. Who knows where she might be!.!.!.

For me it was when i saw ads from PETA and other organizations!. Most animals are treated inhumanely!. Humans are selfish and think that we are the only species that can go through pain or whose pain really matters but we aren't!. Some people try to only eat free range meat but it can be hard finding out what's free range or not!.
