A teenage vegetarian problem needing advice?!

Question: A teenage vegetarian problem needing advice!?
I've been a vegetarian for about five months now and my parents have never fully supported my decision!. Recently, they decided that it was time to stop so they refuse to cook meals without meat!. I've tried reasoning with them and telling them how important it is for me, but they think the entire concept is stupid!. I would go out and buy my own food but I'm jobless and when I do get a job I need to start saving up for college!. Is there a better way to reason with them and show that me being a vegetarian and eating slightly different food is not "disrupting the entire house"!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

1st i'd like to say THANK YOU for trying to be veggie!. 2nd - SO SORRY your folks do get it!. i am surprised, you sound intelliegnt, how could they be so clueless they raised you!. & 3rd - i think if you just educate yourself & maybe print out what you need to show them you are not just in a phase!. you know, let them know you are combining foods to make complete protiens & getting right nutrition - parents are always worried about "Protien", get some good recipes & plan a full meal that you cook for them!. i know i know your a kid!.!.!.!.soooooo, take your Mom aside, present the idea of you cooking veggie meal for whole family - then tell her you would like her to help & tell her HOW GOOD for her HEART eating even 1 veggie meal a week is, here show her this too sponsored by American Heart Assoc!. - "Go Red for Women" it is for females of all ages, it will also show Mom you are doing research, not just lip service!. ask for Mom's advice where to shop, so forth and so on - then she will feel included, not left out of a major decision in your life!. sorta makes her feel like she did something wrong cuz you do not want to do it her way any more - SO let her know, her food is great, but you would like to do this veggie thing and give your personal reasons, along with all info !.-propper nutrition as a veggie!. You can do this! good luck, this veggie Mom will be rooting for you!. =>:)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't see why there can't be a compromise!. How about you ask them if you can cook for the family!. If you have little money, this will be a great opportunity to show them that you can make a delicious vegetarian meal for everyone!. Perhaps they will see how important it is to you and cook a few vegetarian meals, at least for dinner!.

I can't imagine all the food they buy is meat!. So try to find anything you might like, and find meal ideas for it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nobody can physically FORCE you to eat meat, so simply refuse to eat it!. I'm sure not ALL the food in your house is meat!. If you were my child, I would be so proud of you to make the decision to be vegetarian!. It shows you are kind, compassionate, and ethical!. Good for you!

There is TONS of info on the internet supporting why being vegetarian is a great thing!. Get some stuff together and show them:-)Www@FoodAQ@Com

okay tell them that it's not up to them what you eat and that your old enough to make the choice of being a vegetarian or not!. And that it's not disrupting the entire house just because you don't eat meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

even if they only cook meat for meals, that doesnt mean theres only meat in the house!. i'm sure that you have pasta and bread and veggies!. make themWww@FoodAQ@Com

Maybe you should offer to cook some vegetarian meals!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hmmmm, sounds like my parents!.!.!.!.!. I think you'll just have to cook for yourself if they won't cook vegetarian for you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Turn into an Armenian! They have a diet that could be VEGAN if one did not have shish-kabobs!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hunger strike!!
Jk, thats bad!.!.!.!.badbabad, don't do that!!
lol, im in a kraziiii mood 2day, but here are my suggestions
Cook your own food, if you are old enough to get a job, do!!
If you can not, help your mo cook and set up a separate pot or plate and cook with no meat!. Its not like she can shove meat down your throat!.!.!.actually I am pretty cure that is child abuse!. It is honestly not, she might be like my mom, my mom though It was a phase when I went veggie in 5th grade, now as an 8th grade vegan she has gotten over the fact that it is NOT a phase and supports me now! If you want them to see the entire concept is not stupid, make them watch the documentary "earthlings" Completely disturbing and the main reason I am vegan, you can see it on youtube on veganwitches account- http://www!.youtube!.com/user/TheVeganicWi!.!.!.
If you love animals, do not watch it, since your parents think it is stupid, they should watch it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Huh!? Well why should your parents have to cook your meals!?!?!? While I agree it's a disrespectful decision to force your customs onto someone, people shouldn't have to follow your customs!. If you want meatless foods cook them your self, simple as that, and cooking is not hard!. Nobody taught me how to cook, and I cook just fine!. If your truly a Vegetarian then you have access to milk and eggs, and thus you have PLENTY of food to scarf down!. Your parents aren't going to starve you!!

When you go to the grocery store and decide to buy fruit are your parents going to say "no" because Vegetarians eat fruit!? If you go to the grocery store and decide to buy overly priced mock meats, then I don't blame your parents for saying no!. I'm Vegan, and making the people who take care of you spend more money on crap YOU don't need is foolish!. You don't need artificially processed Veggie burgers!. Anyways as a Vegetarian your parents can't do a thing, as you have too many food choices!.

ROTFLMAO!!!!! Oh and Angie, what vegetarian get's a job at fast food places!? Your a true Retard!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

This is a question that comes up often here and it somewhat bewilders me!. Teenagers often think that the world revolves around their life!. The parents are responsible for putting the meals on the table!. If you do not like what is on the table get a job and buy your own food!.

Your argument about saving for college is good but when we make moral choices sometimes it costs us!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

As long as you live in THEIR house - you should follow THEIR rules!.

If you want to do something outside of their rules - then you are fully responsible for your actions!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.meaning - COOK YOUR OWN FOOD if you don't like what they make for you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well there is a easy way try negotiating more and make your own meals, or ask them if they could make some of the food without the meat in it!. also there is a hard way that you probley don't want to do, well go on a hunger strike and when they are not looking sneak some food that doesn't have meat in it and make them think you are not going to eat and if they don't feed you then you are going to have to call the cops because that is a form af abuse!. also you could get a job at like subway or burger king!. I was a vegetarian for 3 years and i stopped because my friends were not supportive but i enjoyed it and i stuck to my decision and my parents didn't support me but my friends mother told me that it is really unhealthy sometimes!. You need to eat a lot of peanut butter, fish, and eggs if you are a vegetarian because they have protein and stuff in it so you stay healthy!. good luck ; )Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think you're being unreasonable!. You parents provide everything for you and are 100% responsible for your health and well being!. It is up to them to decided how to handle that!. You simply do not have right to second guess that now!. You can't legally and morally hold a person responsible for someone else and then disallow them to do what they think is right!. When you're on your own and responsible for yourself, you can eat anything you want!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
