Vegan & Vegetarian Men - how do you feel about Burger King?!

Question: Vegan & Vegetarian Men - how do you feel about Burger King!?
Okay, serious question!. Burger King's advertising strategy appears to focus very heavily on the supposed link between consumption of meat and masculinity!. They've even just brought out an aftershave that's supposed to smell of "seduction, with a hint of flame broiled beef"!. Do you feel it's unfair of them to cast the aspersion that by chosing not to eat meat you're some how less of a man!? I'm asking as a Vegan by the way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I know you addressed men in your question, but I just want to go on record here!.

I find that it takes a REAL man to shun what society "tells" him he should eat to be a "man" and stick to his ethics!.

Eating meat doesn't make you a man!. Not eating meat doesn't make you weak!. Each individual has their own way of living and it's all relative!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

As a vegetarian man, I think that linking meat consumption and masculinity is a valid approach to advertising!. For one, eating meat will promote testerone production, which is associated with masculine traits (working out, competing in sports, and having sex also promote testosterone)!. Moreover, the hormones in the cows -- while not good for you -- also promote testosterone and have a beneficial effect when on muscle development!.

Further, meat-eating and masculinity is an established link the public's mind, so it only makes sense to play upon this trend!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's pretty silly but it's just advertising!. They are trying to make men feel good about themselves so they think it's ok to push that poison down their throats!. They are in it to make money like anyone else!.

I am a fan of Burger King!. They have vegetarian options here while McDonalds and Wendy's don't!. Seems like they have all their bases covered keeping the meat eating boys' egos boosted and feeding the veg heads what they can't find elsewhere!.

I was a little disappointed with the whopper virgin documentary though!. Seems like it's a little exploitive!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I kind of like Burger King!. I would take it over McDonald's any day!. They actually offer a veggie burger, and although not vegan, it provides flexibility to some of us vegetarians!. And it's a step towards the vegan thing!.

But I guess you're right; it does bother me how, constantly, meat is portrayed as "manly," what with all the football team "official sandwiches" and sponsorships!.!.!.!. but don't worry, it's all because of misinformation and certain ignorance!. Besides, it's sometimes commercial convenience!. It shouldn't be anything to worry about!.

I am not a vegetarian, or a man, but I think it is a gross idea - I don't think that a man smelling of meat is particularly attractive! Did you notice that in the news report they said a woman had worn it and got really big tips at her workplace that day!?
Maybe some people think that meat-eating is masculine, but I don't agree, and I don't think that it will really influence people!. I don't think it is worth getting bothered about it though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's just smart marketing!. People like eating meat, so they try to make it as appealing as possible!. They make bank on there end of the deal!. The costumer is satisfied, and they couldn't care less what vegetarians and vegans think!. We're not really their demographic, considering they have one item we can eat!. Anyway, I don't trust any fast food anymore!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well any bloke with a mind of his own wouldn't be swayed by the temptation of smelling like 'flame broiled beef' because an advert told him too!.!.!.!.lol

But yeah I get your point, advertisers have a lot to answer for!. Although I dont think its any worse than the dairy industies massive campaigns to promote milk as a necessary food in order to obtain calcium!.!.!.!.

I know my vegan husband wouldn't think anything of Burger Kings campaign though, he knows real men dont eat flesh :DWww@FoodAQ@Com

I cant stand Burger King but admit that once or twice a year I want a burger!.!.nothing else!. However everyone who things that meat eating has anything to do with masculinity is probably the same kind of guy who thinks the car he drives has anything to do with his testosterone level!.!.
Both are equally pathetic!.
Nothing is more sexy than a man with brain!.!.not a grunting ape who thinks his teeth define his nature!. But then!.!. let them be!.

BTW!.!.I am a meat eater because I like meat!.For no other reason!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't really care what adverts say to be honest!.

It says something about a food when they can't sell it on taste though, doesn't it !?

I don't care if the adverts line me up as a pale-faced weakling!. I, and all my friends, know the truth!. Thats what matters to me, not what some anonymous advertising company thinkWww@FoodAQ@Com

I HATE BURGER KING! pathetic idea that aftershave is! they probably dont even care how their animals are slaughtered! it makes me so so angry! i do not eat meat, so at least i can look into the eyes of an animal and say "i do not eat you" i wish everyone felt the same
*sighs*Www@FoodAQ@Com

There is a veggie burger option on the menu at all Burger Kings!. I believe it is a garden burger!. One of the main businessman at the top of the chain is vegetarian and he demanded it a couple of years ago!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't pay attention to advertising!. That's what the remote is for!. The last BK commercial I saw had the "King" getting hit by a taxi and handing out cash!. How that's masculine or feminine I do not know!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

As it is more important to know how we feel about it than why we believe Burger King designs advertisements to sell their products I say I don't feel anything regarding Burger King!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There's nothing masculine about obesity, heart disease or bowel cancer which seem to be the fate for many of their customers!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think vegetarian men are more man than those that think its cool or whatever to eat animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am neither V or V but I am not too fond of BK!. As far as the advertising goes some people need any excuse to get their feelings hurt!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No I don't think it's unfair!.!. It's an ad campaign,, People can take it or leave it!.!. and frankly, who really believes in advertisements anyway!?!? Of a fast food restaurant no lessWww@FoodAQ@Com

also that commercial that has 'more meat!"!.!.and the guy that wants more meat is like really big and athleticWww@FoodAQ@Com

If it sales then they would be stupid to not do it!.

I disagree with that belief though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not a vegan or a vegetarian but I respect those of you who are!. (I do like tofu by the way)

The cultural link that BK is preying on (no pun in tended and you'll see why) is that anthropologically men are hunters!. The more masculine a man is the more meat he can bring back to the tribe to aide in their survival!. In many primitive cultures dominate males ate first, taking the "lion's share" of the meat and horking it down like a pig!.

Personally, the smell of flame broiled meat makes my stomach ache with desire and my mouth water!.!.!. with that said!.!.!. if I were to smell that smell get those feelings and then realize it was wafting over from the large sweaty man in the cube next to me!.!.!. I would be seriously disturbed!.!.!. even if it was coming from the sexy lady the other cube!.!.!. people shouldn't smell like meat!.!.!. seems cannibalistic, and I'd only eat a person if I had to!. Fruit and Spice scents are find on women… nothing hotter than the smell of vanilla, apples, or coconut on a girls skin or hair when you sniff them, hell even beer scented shampoo sounds appealing but not beef… not meat… what’s next, bacon scented/flavored lip gloss, I’d be too tempted to bite a girls lips if I kissed her and she tasted like bacon… I loooooooove me some bacon!. Nom, Nom, Nom!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I love whoppers in fact I will go get some today!. A double whopper with bacon and chiken frys will be good!. Get all the animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
