Why are there so many "carb" vegetarians?!


Question: Why are there so many "carb" vegetarians!?
I myself am not a vegetarian!. Ive been a professional chef for years!. I understand the many reasons why people don't eat meat and opt to becoming vegetarian!. What I don't understand is why so many people who become vegetarian just eat pastas, breads and totally miss the point of being vegetarian!.

This is the exact reason why many omnivores like myself don't understand the vegetarian lifestyle and why so many of us look at vegetarians and think "man!. they sure do look unhealthy" Why is it so hard to actually research your lifestyle before you just decide "oh yea!. i seen a sad PETA video and now i want to become vegetarian"

I have no problems with those who decide to make lifestyle changes for their beliefs or for their health but for the love of GOD please buy a cookbook, do some research and actually eat right please!. It's giving the rest of the vegetarians a bad name!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We use to call these sillies Mac & cheese from a box Veggies!. Many of them lived on that & french fries!.!.ick!.
This is why so many people think Veggies & Vegans are unhealthy!.

I've seen plenty of vegetarians that are overweight and even vegans!. It's because they eat tons of cooked and processed foods!. Veggie burgers,soy cheese,white bread,only cooked veggies,veggie shrimp,soy meats etc etc!. The raw vegan diet is one of the healthiest, if the person doing it has done research!.


Flutter Bot is what I'd call an unhealthy vegetarian!. Seriously, eggs,soy meat,soy cheese!. Just as unhealthy as a balanced diet which includes meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why does eating pasta and breads "totally miss the point of being vegetarian"!? I thought not eating meat was the point of not being vegetarian!.

And for all the omnivores that live on Pepperoni Pizza, Cheesesteaks, Fettucini Chicken Alfredo, etc!?

As far as your "they sure do look unhealthy", I think that's usually omnivores trying to make themselves feel better!.

that was the mistake i made in the beginning!.!. i was having high carbs and i knew it was wrong!.!. so i decided to finally buy a steamer so it would force me to have much much more vegetables and it worked!!!!!! now i never eat rice nor pasta, only whole wheat bread once in a while!.

but the only reason why i did it is cuz i wasnt doing it right, so i wanted to eat something that will "FILL ME UP" cuz i wasnt having enough vegetables!.!. but now that i do i dont need too much carbsWww@FoodAQ@Com

Your a chef so you only see what vegetarians eat when they go out to your restaurant!. What other choices do you give them!? Pastas are an easy dish to order when your a vegetarian in the typical restaurant!. I'm sure I can't order a nut roast at your place!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I didn't become a vegetarian for health reasons!. It certainly wasn't because of a PETA video either, but trust me!. I'm 30 pounds overweight!. I'm more then healthy that I'm unhealthy!. hehe!. It's strange because all the vegetarians I meet look perfectly healthy!.
I know what my diet includes, but I'm a picky eater, and carbs are tasty, and I can eat them, so I do!. I also eat eggs, cheese, soy milk, and other such things!.

I do think some people go overboard, and that they might eat less because they feel there is nothing to substitute meat with!. There's tons of things that have protein in them besides beef and chicken!. You just have to do some homework!. =)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I totally understand what your saying!. I have a bunch of popcorn along with a deep fat fryer that was left here by the former that was used to make french fries and they ate exactly as you write!. Not even a HINT of a fruit in their diet at all, lots of processed foods, chips, what I call 'junk food'!. Once in a while is one thing, but not as a steady diet!.

It really isn't difficult to have a healthy diet and be a vegetarian or vegan!.

It really shouldn't be about getting or giving anything a name - but it SHOULD be about eating a healthy diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

the transition is really really hard!.
when i first started i thought i was helping the universe and myself out by not eating steak!. i would help the world save money (so much resources are used to make that meat), help my arteries from not suffering, not think about little cows dying, and i hate the smell of beef anyway!.
it was really hard though, since my mom would make only 2 types of meals for dinner!. the rice and the chicken/fish!.
since i couldn't have the chicken or whatever meat was being presented i stuck to the rice!. over time the rice got annoying and i actually moved on to having cakes as my main course!. it was pathetic!. but i thought what i was doing was still right - plus cake tastes wayyyy better than the meat EVER did, so i didn't feel like i was missing out!. i think the reason why people eat carbs is because they haven't really found ways to incorporate tofu, beans, nuts, veggies, fruits in abundant ways in their diets!. they feel like they don't have variety!. carb food also makes you full and not miss meat so much!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
