Are there any cheeses that do not have rennet?!

Question: Are there any cheeses that do not have rennet!?
What cheeses can I eat as a vegetarian!? (I'm not a vegan!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Horizon Organic is the only one I know of that doesn't use any animal rennet for every single one of their cheeses!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The Marin French cheese company is safe!. "All milk used by Marin French is Hormone, rBST free Jersey cow’s milk that is extra rich!. Rouge et Noir cheeses are Animal Rennet FREE!. We use microbial enzymes and are cheeses are approved for Vegetarians!."

Check the ingredients list on any cheese you're interested in!. If it says microbial enzymes, it's okay!. If you live near a good cheese shop, the people there can usually give you some good info!. also, most English cheeses made by smaller companies are safe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

From the Tillamook website:

What are the ingredients used to make Tillamook cheese!?

The ingredients used to make Tillamook cheddar cheese include cultured milk, enzymes, salt, and annatto!. All of our cheeses are made with a microbial/vegetable based enzymes, with the exception of Tillamook Vintage White Medium Cheddar Cheese and Tillamook Vintage White Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese, which use a traditional rennet!.

The availability of brands of cheese depend on where you live!. As for me, I'm in Washington state!.

I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian with very strong vegan leanings because of allergies and one of my absolutely favorite new cookbooks is "The Uncheese Cookbook" by Jo Stepaniak!. My absolutely favorite recipe so far is Cheez Please Soup (page 74)!. The first time I made this was one night my husband (a new vegetarian) was not feeling well so I made this soup with some biscuits with dill weed in them!. He just loved it!. I made it again a couple of nights ago and we used it as a cheese sauce for macaroni and cheese!. It's definitely at the top of my list of vegan or any comfort foods! The only change I had to make was replacing the onion with cauliflower because of my husband's allergies!. Even my meat-eating brother said he couldn't taste the difference between it and 'real' cheese sauce!

Depending on what you are looking for, there could be a lot of cheeses or cheese substitutes that you would enjoy!. I would also recommend emailing any of your local cheese producers (or wherever your cheese comes from) to see if they make any cheeses with vegetable rennet, or if they don't, if they know of any that do within your area!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
