Are humans really omnivores.?!

Question: Are humans really omnivores!.!?
now i understand that people CAN eat meat but do we really have 'canine teeth'!. if you look at your nearest omnivore/carnivore animal their canines are much sharper!.
Can we break the skin of a cow with our teeth!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Of course our canines are underdeveloped!. Ever heard the phrase use it or loose it!? As an advanced species, we have evolved past the need to kill our prey with our own teeth, so we no longer require them to the same degree!.

Although I'm not certain (so don't take my word for this), I would say further back in the evolutionary chain, we had sharper and bigger teeth!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Humans have always used tools!. Some of them were invented by our non-human ancestors!. And our closest non-human relitives chimpanzees are omnivores, they eat a lot of insects and the occasional small animal or other chimp!. I don't think there were any vegetarians till a few hundred years ago so saying that eating meat is unnatural means denying thousands of years of history like creationists do!.

Not sure about a cow but humans can defiantly do some damage with there teeth, ask any emergency room physician!. And there are lots of ways people can catch and kill small animals without tools!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

First, cows are not the only animals that you an eat!.!.!. small rodents, snakes, rabbits, fish etc are all animals where your puny canine teeth will have no problem biting into raw!. I do not understand why you and others here insist on using cows as an example as if cows are the only edible animals on this planet!. Vegetarians who eat grain and nuts and legumes have to remember that most of these foods cannot be consumed raw and have to be either processed first (eg milking soy beans for soy milk and tofu, grinding wheat) or cooked first!. Have you had a delicious meal of raw rice!? Bet your herbivore teeth can't bite through that either!.

Second, do not ignore evolutionary process where the need for sharp canines has been superseded by our ability to use tools!. We may have had sharp teeth before but our continuous use of cutting tools over thousands of years made these teeth unnecessary!. Apes, particularly, chimpanzees being our closest relatives are omnivores and do not use cutting tools when they eat meat!. hence their still sharp teeth!. Gorillas which are generally vegetarians need those teeth to cut into bark and other tough vegetation that they feed on!. They also need them for attack and defense against potential predators and rivals!.Other herbvores such as horses do not need canines because they can outrun most predators!.

I think the biggest and most undeniable proof you will have about humans being omnvores is the fact that in the thousands of years of his existence including today, men have been consuming meat and vegetation safely!. We can eat meat if we choose, digest it, we can derive nutrients from it!. We can also eat plant foods with the same results!. Or both!. That is what "omnivore" meansWww@FoodAQ@Com

I think we are naturally supposed to eat minimal or small amounts of meat such as fish or insect, and the rest is largely fruits and maybe some vegetables!. Because that is how chimps eat and humans are close to chimpanzees!. In general chimps are mostly scavengers and so are humans I think!. Scavengers will eat anything, and so will a human!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Biologically we are omnivores, because our livers make the enzymes needed to digest meat!. Before the discovery of fire and the invention of tools our ancestors would of been limited to very small animals like: birds, mice, insects, snakes, lizards, etc!. I guess our teeth could handle killing these, but I don't want to find out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We used to be able to do such things, however, after years and years of mushy cooked foods our jaws and teeth have adjusted to our culinary needs!. We are ominvores though!. You'll find life long Vegans and Vegetarians often have iron defficencies and calcium problems!. You can't get everything from a multivitamin!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

LeNore!?
Duh you can't get everything from a multivitamin! Thats why healthy vegans and vegetarians eat a balanced diet and are very very healthy!
Donald Watson!. Vegan since 18!. No deficiencies!. Died at age 95 of old age!.
Yes, I believe we are slightly omnivores!. Saying the typical American diet is more natural than a vegan diet is stupid though!.
Modern technology allows us to choose weather to support pain and horrible things, or to lead a life of compassion for all creatures!. The choice seems obvious to me!.
:)Www@FoodAQ@Com

no because humans have evolved to have duller canines as we have not needed sharp teeth as a species for a very long time!. Yes we are omnivores (well, i am a herbivore), as my family eats lettuce and steak (Plus much more those are just examples)!. All species evolve over time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, we are!. We can bite the heads off birds!. I don't think a house cat can handle a cow and it's a carnivore!. Omnivores come in all shapes and sizes!. Some live in rain forests and some use computers!.

Looks like you shouldn't be eating coconut, artichoke, etc!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

"Can we break the skin of a cow with our teeth!?!?"

We don't need to, we are intelligent enough that we have created tools to do this for us!. Personally, i'd rather be smart and able to make tools to kill things as opposed to dumb and grazing on grass all day!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We do not have to!. We have learned to use knives!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

!. are front teeth are used more for tearing meatWww@FoodAQ@Com
