Is this method a good way to become vegan without being a vegetarian first?!
Well my mother and I made a compromise and she says we can buy margarine instead of butter, and soy milk instead of milk, and fake cheese or whatever (we rarely eat cheese, it's disgusting) because half of our family is, uhm, lactose intolerant!. (We hate dairy products anyway, thank goodness)
I'm 15 and I really want to be a vegetarian!. But my mom is strict about me getting my protein (in meat) just as much as I get my whatever in vegetables because I'm anorexic so I don't eat much anyway!.
So if I start out with consuming no dairy products and animal made products than start eating less of meat and trying to convince my mother to buy me fake meat, do you think I'll be able to become a vegan without starting out as vegetarian!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Don’t buy margarine instead of butter!. If you ever saw how they make margarine, you would never allow it to pass your lips again!.
Mashed (organic) avocado is an excellent replacement for butter!.
This is a good site for vegan protein:

Green smoothies are a good way of getting nutrients into your diet:

However, I think you need to get professional help and sort out your anorexic issue first!. I wonder if that is behind your desire to get thinner by starting a vegan diet!.

Why not just educate yourself about nutrients!? I know, I know, I'm asking an anorexic to know what the body needs!.!.!.yes, I appreciate the irony!. Anyway, there are other places to get your protein than from meat and dairy!. Eggs, nuts, beans, grains, fruits, and veggies all have protein!.
However, because of your anorexia, I'm going to have to side with your mother on this one!. Until you can be trusted to feed yourself properly, it's a bad idea for you to attempt to restrict your diet further!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your making a really good start!. Practice eating more veggies and fruits more!. Then you can work your way up by becoming a pollo vegetarian!. A pollo eats turkey chicken and duck but not cows or pigs!. When you feel ready eliminate eating duck, turkey then chicken(or any other order)!. Vitamins are a great way to replace the iron/protein you need!. With that plan becoming a vegan will get easier and easier good luck =]]Www@FoodAQ@Com
Well, soy is where protein comes from in fake meats and it should only be eaten in moderation!.
The best places to get protein are nuts, legumes, beans and other seeds!. Not soy!.

Get yourself a good book on nutrition and show your mother that legumes also contain protein!. Most people over estimate the amount we require and your mum is probably just the same!. Facts are the best tactics to use to convince her, but unfortunately facts may not do the trick if she's just plain uncomfortable with the idea!. My mother was the same when I told her we were going vegan, but luckily she lives on the other side of the country!. While you live with your mum, you do have to abide by what she says!. However, you won't live with her forever, so all the research you do now will help you later on!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Mmmh, "compromise" that word usually doesn't fit into vegan discussion!.
You'll just have to be extra careful that you get the best out of it right from the word go!. Make sure your getting enough protein and all the vitamins you need etc!. You'll have to do some research, most people would find it difficult only because they wouldn't know how to get all they need through grains and pulses and so on!.
Good luck, just ask if you need to know anything, the people on this are very knowledgeable!.

the stuff people are saying about soy is false!. unfortunately, the meat and dairy industries are extremely powerful and have the ability to sway the public opinion drastically, and since the are feeling threatened by the recent popularity of soy they are attacking it!. one or two studies is NOT enough to eliminate the benefits of eating soy over meat!. obviously you don't want to eat it every meal, but everything should be eaten in moderation!.
just introduce fake meats gradually to your parents!. do research on protein and you will find that plant sources are a much healthier way to get the things your body needs!. try cooking it on your own a few times and i bet your parents will be impressed!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Soy is not good for you!.
Here are a couple of facts for you:
Myth: Soy estrogens (isoflavones) are good for you!.
Truth: Soy isoflavones are phyto-endocrine disrupters!. At dietary levels, they can prevent ovulation and stimulate the growth of cancer cells!. Eating as little as 30 grams (about 4 tablespoons) of soy per day can result in hypothyroidism with symptoms of lethargy, constipation, weight gain and fatigue!.
Myth: Soy foods are safe and beneficial for women to use in their postmenopausal years!.
Truth: Soy foods can stimulate the growth of estrogen-dependent tumors and cause thyroid problems!. Low thyroid function is associated with difficulties in menopause!.
Consumption of unfermented soy products is probably not such a good idea!. Unfermented soy contains high levels of a number of compounds that can: block the absorption of calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc; stunt growth; and alter hormone levels, disrupting menstruation, lowering testosterone, increasing the risk of breast cancer, and causing thyroid and prostate complications!. Unfermented soy includes things like soy milk, soy burgers, soy hot dogs, and tofu!.
