What's the rational for some vegetarians to eat fish?!

Question: What's the rational for some vegetarians to eat fish!?
I am trying to go vegan but it is so hard!.

I want to go semi-vegetarian!. Like, I want to keep eating shrimp, lobster, salmon, tuna, and other sea food animals!.

So, why do some vegetarians eat fish, pescans!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Fish is meat!.

But, some vegetarians only go off red meat!. They still eat chicken and fish!.

I honestly couldn't tell you why, but some of them just do!.

:)

Ok, i just asked my vegetarian friend and she says that she eats fish because it has at least been able to live in it's natural habitat!. Whereas a lot of animals, like cows and chickens and that kind of stuff are bred in captivity and in very poor conditions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think there are a number of reasons people may be like that:

1) They are vegetarian for some of the health benefits and feel that avoiding red meat is enough to meet their standards!.

2) They read that some vegetarians eat fish somewhere and just went with it (the easy method)!.

3) They are against the cruelty of farming but consider wild-caught seafood acceptable as it has lived freely in the wild!.

4) For some reason they go with the false idea that fish are not animals or that they do not feel pain!.

I am vegetarian and choose not to eat any animal flesh (fish included)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians, like one I know, sometimes eat fish, which means they aren't vegetarians - they are, in fact, pescetarians!. They do this because of all the apparent healthy benefits of fish!. Yes, the vitamins they recieve are - but the suffering they are eating is not!. Do we need to eat fish!? No!. You can get the same nourishment elsewhere!.
That said, if you are finding it hard to go vegan, I would suggest going pescetarian/vegetarian for a short while and gradually ease yourself into a correct and safely done vegan diet!. Visit http://www!.nutrition!.for-vegans!.co!.uk to see how you can do this!.

Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maggie M, fish and chicken are both meat!. You are not a vegetarian, and I don't care what you say debating that!. You just!.!.!. aren't!.

Pescetarians are not vegetarians!.

I used to be one for ten months prior to going vegan, mainly because I was uneducated about how it is very possible to get protein from other sources!. Plus I loved sushi!. So I guess a lot of people are pescetarian either because they like the taste of seafood, they think it supplies them with some sort of nutrition not otherwise obtainable(untrue, I might add!), or they do not want to apply stricter rules!.

Some people think that all vegetarians eat fish!.!.!. which none of them do 'cause you wouldn't be vegetarian at all, even if you called yourself one!. Words are words!.

And please help me to get a 14 year old scholar to shut his/her face!. I already reported him/her!. Really man, you need to stop, it is obnoxious!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

the only reason i can think of is they are pescatarians for health reasons not morals!.
or if they are one for morals that don't think of fish as sentient as other animals!.

and to whoever said fish isn't meat here is the definition of meat!.!.
meat?
–noun 1!. the flesh of animals as used for food!.

and an animal is defined as a creature in the kingdom animalia, fish are in that kingdom!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It depends on your reasons for becoming vegetarian in the first place!. If it is solely for your own health then fish is a much leaner and healthier meat (I define meat as the flesh from a living creature) if you are doing it for environmental reasons then you could argue that eating sustainable wild caught seafood has a minimum environmental impact!. It's really a personal choice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They are uneducated in how to get nutrients otherwise!. Pescetarians are NOT vegetarians!. A semi-vegetarian is the same as an omnivore!.

"So, why do some vegetarians eat fish"--none do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No vegetarian eats fish!. Period!.

The rational behind those who avoid red meat and poultry, yet continue to eat seafood, is often the simple fact that, during their lives, the sea creatures were not exposed to the same torture that land animals experienced!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ignore maggie M!.
In some answers she is a vegan, others a meat lover, and now a semi-vegetarian!?

If they are not a vegetarian for morals, some eat it for the nutriance even though it has shown to have mercury in it!. Eeewww!.
Fish is meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

An actual vegetarian, by definition, doesn't eat fish or any of the other things you listed!. That's called a pescatarian, which is a type of omnivore!. Vegetarians are herbivores and don't eat any meat, period!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maggie M, you're stupid!. You're not a vegetarian if you eat poultry!. Dumbass!. And fish was once living and breathing, so if you eat them, I don't consider the people who eat them vegetarians!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians don't eat fish, pescetarians eat fish as well as vegetables, but not meat!. The fact that they label themselves vegetarians is no more than misinformed misuse of the word!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
