Do vegetarians eat no-meat soups that were made with chicken broth/stock?!
I wouldn't call that vegetarian, but I know of some "vegetarians" that would eat any vegetable-based, no-meat soup even if it was made with chicken broth!. So what do you say!? Should chicken broth be treated like eggs and dairy, as an animal byproduct!? Or should it rather be treated like animal flesh!? In my personal opinion, since the broth was derived from the animal carcass, then it is indeed like eating the flesh!. What do you think!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
In my book, eating chicken broth is the same as putting a chicken carcass in your mouth!. Animals are not killed to get dairy or eggs , and though they are mistreated in this process, the fact that they are allowed to live makes dairy and eggs by-products,\!. Chickens are always killed for broth!. Chickens are not meatless!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
well, to be fair, sometimes it is hard to know what exactly that means, and some vegetarians may be unaware of what they are eating!. And if they are aware I think they are still vegetarians because many vegetarians don't want to go overboard- there are people who eat birds and those who eat fish and they can still all be considered vegetarians! And it can be confusing for even an experienced vegetarian to decide whether or not eating something will qualify them as a vegetarian- raman noodles have "chicken flavoring" that required some way to extract the chicken taste- so if a vegetarian eats chicken flavored raman are they still a vegetarian!? And jellos and some candies have animal in them, so if a vegetarian has some jello are they still a vegetarian!?
I think its a personal choice where people draw the line on eating meat because being a vegetarian is hard with all the meat products in at least the american culture, people have their own reasons for choosing not to eat meat, and some don't do it for ethic reasons, maybe for health where it wouldn't matter as much if their soup was chicken broth or not!.
Besides, if a person is a vegetarian because they don't believe in the needless killing of animals, then I believe that not eating "animal flesh" is their way of showing their message, which is the important part, not small details like their broth!.

josephrmedia, are you kidding me!?!

being a vegetarian is about the message you send across, whether it be for religion, ethics, heath or whatever! that's why in the defination for vegetarian there's an "or" instead of an "and" between the words 'fowl' and 'in some cases', there isn't a strict defination!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with you!. Chicken broth is just like eating the actual chicken-yuck! To be quite honest the smell of chicken broth always bothered me, even when I was a little kid and a non-vegetarian!.
There are some of those vegetarian "chicken" broths and things and even those sometimes bother me for some reason-I think I'm just really sensitive to the smell or something!. also, if I eat any chicken or meat or anything (even the broth) it makes me feel sick to my stomach!.!.!.Guess I wasn't meant to eat chicken! Lol!Www@FoodAQ@Com

somrp2 - "there are people who eat birds and those who eat fish and they can still all be considered vegetarians"
vegetarian- a person who does not eat or does not believe in eating meat, fish, fowl, or, in some cases, any food derived from animals, as eggs or cheese, but subsists on vegetables, fruits, nuts, grain, etc!.
you can make whatever choices you want but if you are eating dead animals you are not vegetarian
some people really confuse me with where they get these ideas
They are sooo loonyWww@FoodAQ@Com

No!. They don't eat soups with chicken or beef stock!. In fact some vegetarians will get very sick since they lost the stomach enzymes that help digest animal products!. I know some people that are 3rd generation vegetarians, meaning that neither they nor their parents have ever eaten meat or animal proteins!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I couldn't agree with you more! I get so annoyed when I pick up a seemingly innocent veggie soup, read the label and see that it contains chicken, or beef broth! I honestly don't even like the taste of chicken or beef broth, vegetable broth is so much better!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
If it's made from a carcass, it's a meat soup!. Duh!.
It's not a byproduct, it's a meat product!.
That being said, it's up to an individual what they eat and it has no bearing on your status as a vegetarian or non-vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I will not eat anything with chicken broth, stock, etc!. Some vegetarians don't realize that some things are made with it!. They just see that it has no meat in it and think it's okay!. But they have Vegetarian Vegetable soup - and that's what I eat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Chicken broth should definately NOT be treated as eggs or dairy!.
Its a slaughter by-product, just like beef, bacon, lamb etc!.
Vegetarians do not eat slaughter by-products!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Chicken broth, or other meat broth, is NOT vegetarian!. A person who eats it should not be called a vegetarian!. But we all know that some people just want to have the title but they want to eat their meat too!. Sigh!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
A person is whatever they choose to call themselves!. If that is what they think so be it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
