Eggs, any farms that don't mistreat?!

Question: Eggs, any farms that don't mistreat!?
Are there ANY egg farms that don't mistreat their animals!? I want to try and find a supply of eggs that my family can all use and that I can eat without ruining my goal of cruelty-free food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are three types of reared chickens for egg production!. Battery, deep litter or free range!. Farmers are in business to make a profit, hence the reason for battery farming!. Deep litter is more labour intensive so the price may rise, or in the case of supermarkets, their profits stay the same and the farmer makes less!. Then there is free range!. That is not a viable option to running a business!. There is only limited control iover the poultry!. I doubt any maltreat them, but it is a question of quality of life!. You may like or dislike any form of farming, because the farmer is there to make a profit the easiest way he can!.
You must decide as an individual whether you want to accept that!. I worked at 14 looking after 5000 deep litter hens!. I still eat eggs and will always do so!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's true that egg production is actually much more cruel that any chicken production since half of all chicks are killed for dogfood!.

Debeaking though is not painful to the chickens since it is like a toenail with no nerves or blood supply and it keeps the chickens from poking each others eyes out!.

One of my friends has a about four chickens and he keeps them happy in their roost!. Your best bet is a roadside stand that sells a few dozen eggs a day!. If they are using multi-purpose chickens they will raise the males for meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have yet to find any farm that does not do something inhumane to the chickens!. Even the best farms usually kill the male baby chicks and kill the laying hens as soon as they don't produce enough!. Your best bet is to avoid eggs altogether or adopt some hens as pets, eat their eggs, and don't kill them when they no longer lay!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

How do you define "mistreat"

Is death mistreatment !?

If thats the case then no, there are no commercial farms that don't mistreat animals

With eggs, about half the chickens are killed at <1 week old!. The hens are killed at 10-12 months old when thier natural life could be anything up to 8 years!.

In the UK for example, egg production, organic or otherwise, results in the premature death of 80 million chickens a year!.

I have seen free-range farms ( for Sainsbury's ) and they are little more that caged outdoor hardstandings where the birds are so cramped you could not walk across the yard!.

Caged birds !? Wow, the local Tesco caged barn has 400,000 hens in it!. Its 300 metres long, cage rows are 450mm apart and 450mm square, 4 birds to a cage, stacked 8 feet high and 50 rows wide!. The birds are fed food via conveyor and eggs are taken away in the same manner!. This is mass factory production on a scale you cannot imagine until you see it!.

Cruelty free !? You decide!.

If you are going to eat eggs, the nearest you'll get to cruelty-free is to buy from a hobby farm or friend where you stand a fighting chance of the hens being allowed to continue to live on the land after thier production declines!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well I tend to pick the farmers that saw the beaks off the chickens!. that way they can't hurt each other!. I'm sure they are much happier this way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would try an organic farmWww@FoodAQ@Com
