Answers:
You are a pescetarian, fish/seafood are meats regardless of what you or others believe!.

If you keep insisting you're a vegetarian, you're going to keep getting ridiculed until you
A) Stop eating fish/seafood
B) Stop calling yourself a vegetarian

That's just the way it is, I'd personally get over trying to label yourself and just be the way you want to be!.

Easy way to shut them up, is to say
"You're right, I'm not a vegetarian!.!. but I still strongly believe in the vegetarian diet/way of life!.!. and although I still eat fish/seafood!.!. that may change one day"Www@FoodAQ@Com

Be honest with them and explain you are not a vegetarian! Eating an animal is eating an animal and because it lives in the water doesn't make it any less of an animal!. It is a shame that people eat fish but try and be cool by calling themselves vegetarian, I did it for about 2 weeks until I thought about what I was doing and realized I was an idiot and stopped eating fish and it wasn't hard at all!. If kids keep teasing you after you are honest or after you make the switch to become a real vegetarian (one that does not eat animals) then you should figure out a way to trash what they do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Compare what you want to suggest as a vegetarian to what is found in the dictionary!.

vegetarian?

–noun 1!. a person who does not eat or does not believe in eating meat, fish, fowl, or, in some cases, any food derived from animals, as eggs or cheese, but subsists on vegetables, fruits, nuts, grain, etc!.

–adjective 2!. of or pertaining to vegetarianism or vegetarians!.

3!. devoted to or advocating this practice!.

4!. consisting solely of vegetables: vegetarian vegetable soup!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

this means that you are a Pesco-Vegetarian, you don't eat land animal, but you eat animals of the water!. There are many different kinds and ways of being a vegetarian!. The most severe being vegans!. I like to think of it as Vegans are the mega "religion" if you will and the different kinds of veg-heads are the different degrees of vegans!. Personally, I am a Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian, which means I don't eat any animals, but I eat eggs and dairy products!. Just tell them that at least you don't eat most animals/meat/ being considerate unlike many of the kids that may be giving you a hard time!. say, at least you (I) are saving some animals, what are you(they) doing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There's debate whether pescatarianism is a true sect of vegetarianism, but I'd err on the side of caution and say no!.
You're eating the flesh of a living being!. To me, the term "vegetarian" implies that you don't ingest flesh!.
Eating fish and seafood is terrible for the environment, the health benefits are coupled with contamination and pollution issues, and if you truly care about the welfare of animals, why not just cut it out completely!? The benefits of seafood: protein, omega-3 fatty acids, etc!., can be found in many other meat-free choices!.
It's awesome that you don't eat other animals, but you're not a true vegetarian!. Sorry!. :(Www@FoodAQ@Com

okay to clear things up, you are not a vegetarian!. like many others have said!. vegetarian don't eat flesh!. just because a fish isn't as cute and cuddly doesn't make it any less of an animal!. fish is an animal, it is classified in the kingdom Animalia!. if you want to call yourself something it would be a "pescatarian" which is someone who doesn't eat fish!. you are in no way a vegetarian, you could just tell people it is similar to vegetarianism, but really pescatarianism is just another restricted diet!.

if i was in your position i would say "im doing the best i can to reduce animal cruelty, can you say the same!?"
or that my diet is my choice to eat what i want to, and it doesn't really pertain to you why i choose to eat what i do!.

as bystander im just saying maybe you want to rethink your reasons for being pescatarian, if you can't even tell people the reasons behind it, not that people really have the right to question it, but it is natural for people to be curious!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In my opinion, it's up to you what you eat so why the hell do they think they can tease you about that sort of thing!? If they're happy eating meat and fish, then at least you're going a step in the right direction!.

Besides, why bother labeling yourself!? You eat what you eat, end of!. Why do people feel the need to itemise what they eat by summarising it in 'one handy word'!? People will always tell you that you could by a more consciencous eater, though I'm sure there are people who could say a word or two in their ears!. Think Meat Eater; Pescatarian; Vegetarian; Lacto-Vegetarian; Ovo-Vegetarian; Vegan; Vegans who only eat their own produce; Macrobiotics; Freegan!.!.!.need I go on!?

I eat fish rarely, but never eat meat, but for a long time didn't eat either!. I decided to eat fish again because I used to enjoy it and, if you choose the right types, is sustainable and healthy for you!. I also could kill a fish, but could never kill an animal, so I don't feel like a hypocrite for eating it!.

In the bigger picture; I believe that the pain and suffering of land animals is greater, and a more pressing issue than fish welfare, although I do keep informed of both issues and try to stay away from farmed fish and more disreputable brands!.

At the end of the day; if you've made your decision, and you feel that it's an informed one and right for you, then what they say really doesn't matter, and who do they think they are trying to make you feel bad about it anyway, when they're happily munching on their big macs!?! Just be happy that you're doing the right thing for you :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

"Im a vegetarian but i eat fish!."

I'm afraid that's not possible!. There's really no need to even read the rest of your question!. I'm not saying you can't eat fish, but you can't correctly say you're a vegetarian if you eat fish!.

Edit:
Wow, I guess people love to give thumbs down to people who speak the truth!. Truth hurts, I guess!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I started to eat fish again after many years of being a straight Vegetarian, it's a ball ache to explain - now from reading the answers in your question I learn there is a term for people like us, that Pescatarian / Pesco - Vegetarian one, so I'm gonna go with that from now on!

However, if that's still not gonna shut them up, I would tell them you consider yourself as equivalent to the other sea dwelling creature that is a Dolphin, which we Humans share a category with being - Mammal, and they too eat fish and are intelligent, sensitive, and beautiful!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you are veg for the animals, there is no excuse to eat fish!.

Veg for health reasons, it has omega 3 fatty acids!.

For the enviornment, fish has little impact on the enviornment, but for the ocean ecosystem fishing is bad!.

For the hungry, well you don't have to feed fish much, not like you do for cows or pigs!.

Edit:also, you are a pescitarian!.
Congrats on helping the enviornment!
:))Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm vegan!
A real vegetarian DOES NOT eat fish!!!
There is NO excuse for it!
You either eat meat or you don't!.
There is no middle!
Or just don't call yourself a vegetarian and say "I just don't eat meat except for fish!!"
But if your goin to call yourself a vegetarian, don't eat fish!Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you want them to shut up, quit fibbing about being a vegetarian and tell them your a Pescetarian!. Vegetarians don't eat animals and fish are animals!.
