Can you make your dog a vegetarian?!

Question: Can you make your dog a vegetarian!?
Answers:
You know, I rather suppose you could!. I mean the bugger can't go to the market and/or fix his/her own meals, huh!? So just keep him/her inside so (s)he doesn't find something in the "wild" that (s)he prefers, and feed him/her a bunch of veggies--voila, a vegetarian dog!. One of you'll be happy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dogs are omnivores and therefore can be on a vegetarian diet!. Just like people, the diet needs to be balanced in order to be healthy!.

There are a handful of vegetarian dog foods on the market!. The only one I would trust(just my opinion) would be Natual Balance, since they have a quality meat based food!. AvoDerm also puts out a vegetarian dog food, but I don't know this company well!. I also believe Royal Canin has a prescription food on the market!.

Some people put their dogs on a vegetarian diet b/c of severe allergies!. I have actually contemplated using a vegetarian diet for my Westie's digestive issues and allergies!.

You need to be sure that the food you choose is a high quality, well known brand of food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It might not be such a good idea!. People can be very healthy with a vegetarian diet, but that's because we are omnivores and not predominantly carnivores like dogs!. Still, it may work out fine with your dog, who tend to do better on vegetarian diets than cats (who are real carnivores)
Sure, there are versions of dog food available that are vegetarian, but they are simply the product of an over thinking and over complicating human brain!.
Let us try to analise it rationally!. The main reasons for a human being to become a vegetarian are those related to health, animal suffering and the environment!. We already know it is not healthier for dogs to go vegetarian and it may actually harm them!. As far as animal suffering, they are hunting carnivores in the wild!. And as for the environment, you can always choose to buy products that are more "green"!.
In conclusion, contrary to the case with humans, it can be detrimental to your dog, so your own yearning to do good to animals may actually hurt one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Isn't making someone go vegetarian run against the whole idea of vegetarianism!? If you want to do this please talk to your vet first, there are a few vegetarian dog foods out there!. In the end you will probably end up with a healthier dog since the crap they put in dog food isn't fit for man nor beast!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no, they're carnivorous and need meat!. it's one thing for humans who are technically omnivores (and thus can survives on a meat-free diet), but it's incredibly unhealthy and dangerous to do this to a dog!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dogs, unlike cats who are carnivores, are omnivores!. You can put them on a vegetarian diet, though I would check with your vet first!. Some breeds do fine on vegetarian dog food, some don't!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

People do it but it goes against nature!. They are meant to eat meat!. You see the pointy things that are sharp!.!.!.They are CANINES they are made to rip and tear meat!. It would be like making a parakeet eat Atkins styleWww@FoodAQ@Com

Yes you can, although it seems a little unfair to the dog!.

Humans are fine with being vegetarian, but dogs are really not built for it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yeah, but it would be unfair!. How would you like it if you had no say at all in your eating habits, even if you didn't like what you had to eat!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes you can,
but it is a little bit unfair because they don't have a choice then they are just forced into it!. And dogs really enjoy meat!.!. especially mine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That would be really mean to your dog!. Kind of like feeding your rabbit meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
