What ingredient terms basically mean Animal product/byproduct?!
I've been a vegetarian for several years, and I'd like to begin living on a vegan diet!. I've done my research on nutrition!. Although, if you have advice for that, too, I'd appreciate it! I'm not really much of a cook, although, maybe I should learn!. When looking at ingredients on products (whether it be shampoo, make-up, or food), what words should I be looking for!? ((Such as: We know that all --oses are sugars))!.
I've been on PeTA, and PeTA2 websites, and they were helpful, in as far as specific products, but I couldn't find much about terminology that means "animal!."
Really, I'm shocked about what has animal in it, and what doesn't!
Thanks for any help!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
look for gelatin, which is made of boiled horse bones and commonly found in jello and marshmallows
also, whey is a bi-product of milk, which people don't often know
anything with honey in it (such as honeycomb cereal), or a burt's bees product
on shampoo, i know loreal just came out with a line that says 100% veganWww@FoodAQ@Com

There is no constant term to indicate ingredients of animal origin!. Sorry - but it is just one of those things you have to pick up over time!. Asking questions is a good start - when you read an ingredient label and don't recognize something in there - look it up!.
Sorry no easy answer to this one!. One thing you might try - is to locate a store that is Vegan friendly in your area (assuming we are talking food, here) and they will probably label things as vegan or at least the staff there should be able to tell you if you are not sure!.
Best of luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I just look for "No Animal Testing" and "No Animal Products" on the label!.
Failing that, I whip out my phone and Google the ingredients!. Sometimes, there are ingredients I recognize but don't know if they're animal or plant in origin, so I call the company and ask them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
