Thinking about going vegetarian?!

Question: Thinking about going vegetarian!?
I tried vegetarianism a few times , but it seemed like the only things were long and complicated recipies and required buying a ton of things for one dish and salad's!. Thinking about trying it again and have a few questions!.
1# can you be a vegetarian and drink milk or consume milk products !? What would be the minus of doing that !?
2# does anyone know of fast and easy recipes to cook at home that does not require you to buy a whole bunch of expensive foreign things and take hours to cook!.
I live with people who are still going to be eating meat products and really want to get to vegetarianism!. I think that animals do have feelings and emotions and deserve the right to life the same as us!.
Any helpful advice to someone who is going to try to be a veg again and this time for good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
1- Yes, you can still consume dairy as a vegetarian!. The only downside to it would be if you were veg for cruelty reasons!. The dairy industry is directly tied to the veal industry (and what's more cruel than that!?!) and the dairy cows are treated pretty horribly!. If you are not veg for that reason, you won't be contradicting yourself!.

2- Veg cooking is quite easy!. Just think of some of your fave meals that you had when you ate meat and modify them slightly!. Love spaghetti!? Just leave out the meat and add mushrooms or fresh veggies (like zucchini, onions and green peppers) to the sauce instead!. Love stir-fry!? Leave out the meat and substitute some Morning Star Farms meal starters (their chickn' is really good) or marinated tofu instead of the chicken, shrimp or beef you used to eat!. Love burgers!? Keep with your fave toppings and grab a Gardenburger or Bocca burger!. You could even marinate and grill a nice portabella mushroom cap!. Love tacos!? Try black bean and rice for the base of your filling and add your fave veggies: green peppers, onions, jalapenos, cheese, tomatoes, salsa, etc!. on a wheat tortilla!. You could even substitute veggie "ground" or veggie "crumbles"!. They are made of soy and closely resemble ground beef!.

The sky's the limit!. Just stick with your favorite foods and master those meatless first!. Then you can move on and those other recipes that have 1,000 ingredients won't look that complicated anymore!.

Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are a lot of cheap options for a vegetarian!. It's a bit more difficult for me (vegan)!.

You can make cheese pizzas quite easily with assorted vegetables!. I live off soup and home-made chili!. Dried beans, barley, rice, oats with carrots, celery, onions (and any other vegetables) makes a nice soup!.

Hey Greg, You have opened up a whole new door to your life, I hope I can help you with your queries!.

1) Yes, you can!. The definition of a vegetarian is somewhat confusing, I find!.
To be accurate, if you were to cease all animal flesh(including those inhabiting the sea) from your diet and continue drinking milk, milk products and eggs; you would be called an ovo-lacto vegetarian!. Although, most ovo-lacto vegetarians refer to themselves simply as a vegetarian!.
A strict vegetarian or vegan as it is more commonly known, does not eat anything that comes from an animal!. This includes: No dairy/flesh/gelatin etc!.
Most vegans also take on a vegan lifestyle which means they will not purchase real fur or wool or silk!. And they don't eat honey!. I am vegan!.

You will also come across pescatarians who do not eat cow/pig etc meat or poultry but, they will eat fish and dairy!.

2) Yes, I do know these recipes but, i will direct you to a couple of websites that I know of that will have lots of the recipes on them!.

Yes, you can still be a vegetarian and and drink and consume milk products!. I believe this would make you a lacto-ovo vegetarian!. I don't know of any strong downsides of being a lacto-ovo vegetarian unless it goes against your beliefs or something!.

As for actual recipes, I couldn't tell you personally!. However I've visited tons of websites with delicious and easy vegetarian recipes!. also, if you're looking for something quick, MorningStar has delicious fake meat!. It's not a recipe of course, but they are quick and easy and wonderful!.

also, congratulations on making the decision to go veg!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
