Question for vegetarians: Why do you consume dairy and eggs?!
We are the only animals that drink milk as adults
We are the only animals that drink the milk of other species
Most cheese is made by using rennet (the stomach lining of baby cows)
Eggs are the chickens ovulation
If the eggs is fertilized you are eating a chicken fetus
Plus!
Unless you buy organic and free-range you are indirectly responsible for the continuation of the treatment of tortured farms animals!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well I'm a vegan so I don't eat it, but I think that a lot of vegetarians don't see that it is still affecting the animals!.
Atleast, thats what I tend to see from my friends taht are vegetarians!.
I wish more people would be vegans and vegetarians though !

most cheese is not made from rennet now (although it was in ages past)
"Because of the limited availability of proper stomachs for rennet production, cheese makers have looked for other ways to coagulate the milk since at least Roman times!. Romans sometimes used an extract of fig bark to coagulate milk!. There are many sources of enzymes, ranging from plants, fungi, and microbial sources, that will substitute for animal rennet!."
eggs are mostly nutrients that would support the growth of a chicken fetus if the eggs were fertilized, only a tiny tiny portion of the egg itself is actually the ovulation!. if no one eats the "egg" that the chicken lays (irrespective of whether or not it had chicken sex which would make it a fetus), those nutrients would just rot on the ground, or get eaten by a different animal, or even the chicken itself!.
also, they dont torture the farm animals unless they are stupid and just in the farming business for the fun of it!.!.!. stressed animals produce less saleable product, and it is of lower quality, thus bringing lower returns for the effort of raising them!. it makes bad business sense to torture the animals that are your livelyhood!.
also, we are the only animals that regularly drink milk as adults, because we are the only animals smart enough to be able to procure it in any quantity!. when given milk by humans, other adult animals readily drink it!. (pets, you know)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I consume dairy and eggs because I have to!.
If I could choose not to, I would!.
Have you ever bought a fertilized egg from the grocery store!? I'm pretty sure that's uncommon!. Either way, if I cracked open an egg, and a dead chicken fetus fell out, I wouldn't eat the fetus!.!. I don't understand why you think that any vegetarian would eat the chicken fetus!.
When I eat cheese, I make sure that it says "Suitable for Vegetarians" or that Non-Animal Rennet is on the ingredients and not Animal-Rennet!.
Live your own life and don't assume that every vegetarian out there is a cruel and ignorant person!. I assume you're vegan, but if you're not, you really shouldn't be telling people to stop consuming dairy and eggs, especially if you're not tough enough to give up the corpses!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The animal isn't dying!.
I don't really care if we are the only animals that drink milk as adults, we are also one of 2 animals on the planet that have sex for pleasure!.
Again, I'm not a fan of bandwagon!.
I'll double check my cheese from now on!.
If every egg on the planet hatched our world would be taken over by chickens-- and I don't eat fertilized eggs!.
My family can't afford to buy organic- I'm doing the best I can with being simply a vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I consume organic free range dairy and eggs!. It tastes good and both provide a healthy source of calcium and protein!. I'm a vegetarian out of ethical concern not because I'm disgusted by the thought of eating animal products!. More that I don't like the idea of eating something that was once living!. Dairy cows need to be milked otherwise their udders cause them great pain!. Eggs sold are not fertilised and very few cheeses are made using rennet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Because they want to and there are nutrients consumed!.
"We are the only animals that drink milk as adults"--wrong!. Dogs, cats etc!.!.!.will all drink milk as adults!.

We're sure a lot better off than those that eat meat in your opinion, and although you're probably better off than us, it's the people that actually eat meat and don't give a d@mn you should be targeting, not people who are trying!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I no longer buy dairy, but I still eat eggs occasionally because they are easy protein!. I do buy free-range, organic grass fed eggs!.
If I had room to adopt chickens and pamper them, I would!. But unfortunately I cannot have chickens in my back yard!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We eat them because we can!. We are also the only species that live in climate controlled houses, ride in cars, and fly in planes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
100% vegan over here, but seriously dude!.
People lead there own lives, its not your job to tell them what to do!.
This is why we get a bad name!.
;)
Edit:Dat guy, I agree with what you are saying, but the truth is YES the animals are put through hell on a factory farm and YES it does support the meat industry to get milk and eggs!.
I think what he means by the whole we are the only animals that drink milk thing is that a lot of people say vegetarianism is not natural, so our comeback is that drinking milk is not natural!.
The info on the rennet is very helpful!. :)
Edit:Just some dude, you do know how bad milk is for dogs and cats right!?
In the wild thy never drink it and as pets they should never have it!.
Most dogs and cats are lactose intolerant!. I think he is talking about naturally finding and drinking milk in the wild passed infancy, which no species does(unless you count out modern days civilizations and the wild for humans!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't eat eggs!.
I do drink some cows' milk occasionally, but from last year on, nowhere near as much as I used to (pre-2008)!. This actually came about as a direct result of participation in this forum!. Out of curiosity, I wanted to try out all the alternatives to cows' milk that were frequently mentioned - rice milk, oat milk, goats' milk, soy milk, hemp milk, etc!. (I still haven't found any almond milk to try) and currently cows' milk would make up only about 20% of my total "milk" purchases!. I can remember a couple of decades ago drinking soy milk, and it wasn't terribly appetising, to say the least!. Well, it has certainly changed dramatically for the better since that time, and currently makes up about 50% of my total "milk" purchases!.
Cheese - well, I eat only slightly less of that than I used to, but I've always avoided the rennety varieties anyway!. I bought soy cheese once, but I wasn't overly impressed with it!. Perhaps that has also undergone a dramatic improvement since I first ate it!? I do like the Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheese, though!.
Your question was "why!?" - I'm just used to it, I guess, as I've always had dairy products since I was weaned!. And my mother is a lacto-vegetarian too!. Though, as I say, I've cut back my consumption significantly in the last 12-13 months, but I think it will be quite some time yet before I eliminate it completely (if I ever do) from my diet!. At the moment I'm content with doing my bit!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
