First-time vegetarian advice?!
I just went vegetarian (it's just a trial run) about a week ago, and though I've tried to balance my meals well and get all my nutrients, I've been feeling out of it!. Can I have some tips on how to make sure I get everything I need, especially protein!? And is it normally tough during the first week!? I should add that I'm an athlete, and I exercise for at least 90 minutes 6 days a week!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Soy beans are one of the highest protein vegetarian foods, tofu or a soy drink will help replace some of that protein you're missing out on!. Chick peas are also very high in protein so hummus would do well to fill in that void!. If you are looking for energy try getting more greens into your diet, Popeye wasn't that far off base, also seaweed based foods are very good for that, along with making your hair grow and look very shiny!. Remember to try to get in a starch, a protein and some raw foods in and you should do fine!. All those high protein animals you aren't eating anymore are vegetarians too!. Hang in there, it's a very rewarding lifestyle!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I'm an athlete as well, and find it very hard to get the protein that i need!. You can think about buying protein powder for shakes and such after you work out!. also taking a vitamin would be helpful!.
The first few weeks weren't that tough for me, because i was talking and thinking about being a vegetarian a few months before i did it!. Sometimes when I'm having supper with my family I do miss certain foods, but then i think of why i'm a vegetarian and it goes away!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For me, the trick was tapering off, not just stopping eating meat right away!.
Start just one day a week and gradually build it up to every day!. If you normally eat meat every day, then your body is going to feel like it's missing something!.
Protein is overrated for most veg, but as an athlete, be sure that you eat lots of beans, nuts, dairy, or soy products to get your protein!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with everyone here, but would like to add that dairy is a wondeerful source of both calcium and some proteins!. I like to switch it up between dairy and soy!. Helps keep my energy and helps avoiding the trap of eating the same food day in day out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
what i do is eat ALOT of beans because they have alo of protein and it is always hard the first few weeks even but its soooo healthy and good for you to be a veg!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
