Just some, this is a familiar question! As I mentioned in "another" post, bT toxin is probably the most extensively used totally organic pesticide, which is derived from a soil bacteria and is esp effective against moths and butterflies!. It was discovered over 100 years ago!. One prob now is Monsanto has bred plants to create their own bT toxin so that the insects will very quickly develop immunity to it!. bT toxin has no patent on it, but it just so happens that when it doesn't work anymore, Monsanto has found many other naturally occuring baterial toxins that they do have a patent on!. So the sooner bT becomes ineffective, the sooner Monsanto can take over the organic pesticide market!. Tricky huh!? In the meantime the corn farmers also kill many non-pest bugs in treating their crops, such as the Monarch butterfly!. But who cares about a few bugs!? Corn is yummy esp with some butter and little honey on it!.

Organic farms use a variety of techniques to control pest insects!. Natural pesticides and repellents are a part of the arsenal!.

Neem, Bt/Dipel, Surround (kaolin clay based spray) soap, garlic barrier, hot pepper sprays, row covers (not an insecticide but use to exclude pests from crops, very effective), beneficial insects (a very effective way to control pest insects) , spinosad, dormant oils, rotenone, pyganic/pyrethrin
