Answers:
If you're smart about being vegetarian, it can be much healthier than eating meat!. However, meat isn't bad for you beyond the cholesterol and fat!. If you go vegetarian, ease yourself into it!. What I did, is I cut meat out of my lunch, and then started only having meat in my dinner every other night, then once or twice a week, and then finally cut it all together!. It makes it easier on your self control, and your body!. To get protein, you can eat eggs, beans, soy (tofu, etamami), legumes, nuts, or even protein supplements!.
Keep in mind that if you do go vegetarian, it's hard to go back to meat from a physical standpoint!. Whether it's an accidental nibble of meat (i!.e!. you thought the soup was vegetable and it had bits of beef in it, true story), or going back into eating meat more permanently, it's not easy!. After a certain point, your body doesn't have any amino acids in it's system (outside of the ones you produce), and you can get a little sick!. I was a strict vegetarian for a while, but I live in a house full of omnivores, and it was hard to cook two separate meals every night!. When I integrated fish back into my diet, I ate way too much in the first night, and felt out of sorts for days!.
It's really a personal decision, and one that needs to be made for the right reasons!. I don't think this is your case, but it shouldn't be so you can lose weight!. It should be because you're taking a stand and making a statement!. There's plenty of literature in libraries that could help you make sure you're doing it correctly if you don't want to blow your money on a nutritionist!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well first of all i would just like to say this, whenever i hear people say they dont eat meat hardly ever, they are usually sitting in front of me eating a hamburger with bacon on it with a side of chicken fingers or something lol!. im NOT saying that they are lying or anything, im just saying that most people dont realize how much meat they eat until they dont eat it anymore!. so, with that said!.!.
you can get the protein and everything like that very easily, it does take some adjusting to, but once you get the hang of it [which for me took about a month or two, but i just jumped into it with absolutely no research] it is really easy!. good sources of protein are soybeans, nuts, peanut butter, and lots more!. I know when i became vegetarian my doctor said i was doing surprisingly well, but i was lacking in iron!. so if you run into that problem i would suggest either eating lots of tomatoes, drinking pure tomato juice, or drinking V8 [i would actually suggest doing at least one of those anyways]!. and hey, you can always go on a supplement!. im on prenatal vitamins because they have the most vitamins im looking for!. and they are best for my age group [12-16 or something like that!? im 14!.]!.
and finally is meat bad for you!? well, not necessarily!. it isnt exactly healthy though!. there are actually a lot of diseases that affect meat eaters much more than they affect vegetarians and vegans!. then you have to consider all of those hormones and junk that they inject into the cows and pigs and chickens!. eventually when you eat that meat, you are eating those hormones and all that they put in them!. oh and that wonderful little thing called Mad Cow Disease!. and not to mention that meat is chock full of fat!. did you know that beans provide almost as much protein as meat but are MUCH lower in fat and calories!. if i were to put all the disadvantages to eating meat down here, then it would take you about 30 minutes to read!. now of course there are good things about meat, but in this case, i think the theres more bad things than good!. check out this site www!.peta!.org
they are an animal rights group, but they also have some of the best information about making the switch to vegetarianism!. as well as many other things!. try watching one of their videos, maybe it will get u in the mood to stop your meat intake!.
good luck, i hope this helped <3<3Www@FoodAQ@Com

all you vegans and vegetarians!. Get off your freaking high horses already!. You're not so high and mighty!.!.!.
Here is a real answer for you!. An unbiased completely real answer that you should consider!.
There are a very large portion of vegetarians and vegans out there who I like to refer to as the "Fries and Pies" vegetarians!. These are the people who wont touch veggies, legumes or anything they could get protein from and instead opt for starchy and carb filled alternatives!.
If you do not eat properly as a vegetarian you could very well become anemic which is essentially a lack of iron in your blood due to not eating protein!. also the disease kwashiorkor!. which is a protein deficiency!.
If you do decide to go vegetarian make sure you take a multivitamin and maybe even talk to a nutritionist!. I would also get a vegetarian Indian cookbook as I find Indian food to be the absolute tastiest kind of vegetarian food!.
Remember, you can still not eat meat but still eat cheese, eggs and drink milk to get your necessary protein!. Just make sure your diet is balanced!. Your health is important!. take care of yourself first!.

Protein is overrated, you don't meet people with protein defiency because it doesn't happen eating a wide variety of foods easily provides enough protein!.
I am a vegan and I don't eat nuts AT ALL and only eat legumes occasionally I rely on fruit and vegetables for my protein and am fine!.
Meat has lots of cholesterol(something you don't get in fruit and veggies), saturated fats (something you don't get) and isn't the most natural thing in the world!.
Just do what's right for you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Depends on what you mean by "bad"!. But in terms of worldwide production, and impact on human health and well being, animal welfare, and world agriculture, meat consumption can defintely be argued to have had a pretty devastating impact!.
As long as your diet is balanced, protein will not be a difficulty - I don't think doctorrev and Verla have heard about complete proteins such as quinoa, and sources of iron such as most beans, and dark leafy veg such as spinach and kale!. And sources of protein and iron are definitely not limited just to these in the veggie diet either!.
I'd check out vegsoc!.org and veganhealth!.org for more info on nutrition and foods on a veggie diet!. Any well planned steps you can take towards a plant based diet though are great!.
Good luck to you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is perfectly viable to have enough protein in your diet while going veggie!. Beans, dairy, nuts and leafy green vegetables are all good sources for protein and other minerals like calcium and iron!. (I don't mention soy, because I'm sure you already know that!.) You don't need meat to live and living without it will not harm you!. Often it is much healthier!.
As far as for meat being bad for you though, the answer is no!. Some, like red meat, are only good in moderation, but if it was bad for you, no one would eat it by nature!. All in all, I say test it out for awhile, see if it suits you!. But know that either option works so long as you eat a healthy balanced diet!.
Good Luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I posted this one up on another question but it'll help you make the right choice!.
Saving animals is what's important!. I know it's hard at first to stop consuming meat but it will benefit you a lot!. Animals get slaughtered every day just for the taste of their own flesh!. People will tell you that it's normal, it's human nature, blah blah blah!. But that's not true!. Humans weren't carnivores: http://www!.youtube!.com/watch!?v=05zhL1YUd!.!.!.
It's just a bull that every carnivore human made out there!.
And if you are thinking about becoming a Buddhist, Buddhists don't eat meat!. They have to follow some rules!.
And no, eating fish does not make you a vegetarian!. It's just a bull that fake vegetarians made:
"I'm vegetarian and I eat fish" is not what a real vegetarian would say!.
Think about this: it takes a small person to beat an animal and an even smaller one to eat it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no, meat is very good for you!. just depends on what kinda meat you eat!. like me, i eat just bout every kinda meat out there or anything i can shoot, ive eatin!. but just because you dont eat meat doesnt mean you should become vegetarian!. i know a girl that became a vegetarian and after bout ahh!.!.!.14 years of her being one, she got this thing, dont know what it is off the top of the old noodle, but she now has to **** outta her side in a bag!. and that happened cuz of the lack of meat she would eat!.!.!. which was none for 14 years!. research it before you decide to!. lil research never killed anybodyWww@FoodAQ@Com
Meat is by far the best source of protein!. Other non-meat sources generally don't compare!. Meat is one of the few sources for complete proteins (proteins including all basic amino acids essential for life)!.
also, having low meat can also mean low iron (if you have no other source)!. Red meat fixes that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
