Vegan? ?!

Question: Vegan!? !?
I don't think I could ever become vegan!.

I just want to know why you (or someone you know) became vegan instead of just vegetarian!?

I was thinking about become a vegetarian but with free range eggs, and standards in dairy farms I just think veganism is bizarre!.

Don't get me wrong I respect vegans I'm just wondering why one would choose it over vegetarianism!?
Thankyou!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I used to think the exact same way!. Then the vegans pulled me over to the dark side!!! Just joking, a few good arguments changed my mind!. But I used to think vegans were just plain insane!. It's kinda embarrassing looking back and it was only 6 months ago that I said this stuff!.

I kinda just never thought about calves still having to be born for me to drink milk!. And I never realised that (obviously) half the caves were male, and didn't have a purpose on the farm and were just raised for veal!. And even trying to drink organic milk didn't work because I was still eating chocolate and ice-cream and other treats made with cheap, un organic milk!.

It was the same deal with chickens, and male chicks!. And they are killed almost instantly!. And I was still eating caged eggs in pre made food, and in other peoples houses!.

The animals that were used to get the milk and eggs still have to be killed afterwards!. And I really just don't want to be associated with animal death!. I'm a total softie, suffering just really freaks me out, human or animal!.

Thanks for being so respecting, it's really nice!. Usually people are so snappy and angry!. I'm starring you for being so nice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just as many animals are killed for the production of dairy and eggs as for meat!.
The above posters have described that so I won't!.

I will just say that you can buy so many vegan "fake" foods - fake mince, steak chunks, chicken, lamb, burgers, sausages, meat pies, sausage rolls, fish fingers, fish cakes, yogurt, soft cheese, hard cheese, cream, butter, that there isn't really any reason to eat the real thing!. The milk doesnt taste the same but the rest does!. You can't buy fake eggs but are they that important to you!? For anything you'd give up, there are so many new foods to replace them that you'd never eaten before!. Your taste buds dont suffer on a vegan diet!. And nor do the animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I had several reasons for going the extra mile just two months after I went from omnivore to vegetarian:
- Animal husbandry will always be done down to a price!. Yes, standards have improved!.
- I felt that I'd increased my consumption of eggs and dairy!. I could probably have addressed this!.
- The Atkins Diet is just wrong! BBC2's Horizon debunked it less than a year after I converted!. Yep, loads of air punching that night!.
- The animals still end up at a abattoir!. I'd started a new job one year before, and my walk in took me past the local one!. My dad was a life-long butcher, and even he baulked at the smell!. The noises of distressed animals are also bad!.
- The water usage to feed a human!. Figures I recall from few years ago were: 15000 litres for omnivore; 5000 for vegetarian; 1500 for vegan!. Animal growing, husbandry and processing are obviously water intensive!.
- Nearly all the food scares I hear about are animal related!. My bean and veg soup/stew (it is rather chunky) resides in small tubs in the fridge for over a week with no problem whatsoever!.

Well done you for wanting to become a vegetarian!. I certainly will never be nasty to a vegetarian, or try to hold the moral high ground over you!. Your choice is to be applauded for what it is - a lot better than being an omnivore!.

If you want the "party line" then look at the Vegan Society!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well I used to be a vegetarian, but i'm now a vegan and i feel a lot healthier!. There's also a lot of chemicals in milk and i just don't think its that safe!. They also treat dairy cows badly and just becasue a carton of eggs says 'free range' it doesn't mean they were raised any better than others, it just means that they were cooped up in a cage!.!.!.but outside!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You think veganism is bizarre because you don't know anything about it, clearly!. I am vegan for the many health benefits!. Do research and maybe you'll gain a new appreciation and understanding for veganism!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

being vegan is way easier than people make it sound!. we have a huge variety of stuff to eat that you will probably only notice if you are looking for it!.

veganism is healthier than vegetarianism, your immune system is stronger, less money goes to animal abusers,

its hard to eat free range eggs all the time!. unless you make sure to only buy free range eggs you will eventually be buying battery caged eggs

All animals in animal agriculture end up being slaughtered!. also, many vegans think it is unethical to treat any sentient being as property!. There is also the environmental impact, with livestock being responsible for more greenhouse gases than all forms of transportation combined!.

Maybe the question should be why would anyone be a vegetarian instead of a vegan!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I just find it hard to eat something that has parents!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
