What do you think? Immorality.?!

Question: What do you think!? Immorality!.!?
I'll start off by saying that I am a devoted vegetarian!.

(This is PURELY hypothetical and is only being used to spark differing opinions!.) Here's my curiosity: I want to have children some day, and I've often thought about this!. If my significant other is also a vegetarian, would it be wrong to raise our children as vegetarians!? They would have no choice in the matter until they reached a certain age, because they wouldn't know any better!. Not to mention, young children arguably need meat for their growth and development!.!.!. or do they!?

What do you think about this!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wow, that's actually a GREAT question!. Morally speaking, lets look at it this way:

Children are born into their religion!. Right!? If a kid is born and his parents are, say, Hindu then that child will be brought up as a Hindu; they would identify themselves as a Hindu and life life as a Hindu!. At the point where the child may be old enough to choose, it usually doesn't matter!.!.!. their course has been set, and family expectations are strong!. This goes for any religion, whether it's Christian, Muslim, Jewish or Scientologist!.!.!. we are what we are born into and statistically speaking, few people stray from that!.

So is religion truly a choice!? Is it a path we choose for ourselves or is it chosen for us!?

This is sort of the same thing; being vegetarian is a lifestyle!.!. it may even be a foundational part of your culture!. Should you raise your child vegetarian!? Well!.!.!. that's completely and totally up to you!.

If you are vegetarian strictly on moral grounds, it would make sense to raise your child as a vegetarian!. However, I really like your openness and perhaps you can raise your child vegetarian but as he/she grows up, make it clear that their lifestyle is up to them!.

I do think that it would be harder to give children all of the nutrients they need without any meat products, but as long as you are persistent with them getting essential vitamins and minerals, such as protein and iron, elsewhere, it should be ok!.

You may want to consider school as well; children who won't eat meat may be teased or made fun of in school or perhaps it could be difficult to find vegetarian options!. It's an added stress most kids don't really need growing up if you can help, so that is something to consider!.

How you raise your kids is entirely up to you!. As for the growth and development; I would consult with your physician and perhaps a nutritionist to get an idea of what kind of a diet a baby and child should get if it is meatless!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I was a vegetarian till I was around 9 years old, and as a child I was the tallest in my class!.

also, in my 16 years I never broken a bone!. I only fractured my elbow after I fell on concrete, and my friend fell on top of my arm!.

Children don't need meat, or indeed even dairy (they need their mother's milk as babies) to be strong and healthy!.

Meat and dairy and just one of many sources of protein and calcium!.

I personally would have my children (not that I'm going to have them, I want to adopt or foster) be vegan or vegetarian, for the same reason that I am!.

If they EVER wanted to eat meat, I would let them and I would cook it for them, too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well the way I see it I had no choice in eating animals until I knew better!.
As for the health issue that is a problem but Vegetarian children do exist and they can live a healthy and happy life!.
Although saying that my son is a animal eater because his father is on the condition none of my money buys the meat or supports it!. And when he is old enough I willl explain exaclty why I dont eat meat!. He's asked questions and Ive answered breifly!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't believe children NEED meat when in youth or kids!. Many mexicans down here are healthy and are so poor that they can't afford meat, so many just live off eating lacto-vegertarians that is!. There main food consists of beans, rice, tortillas, hot sauce, and soups!. (W/out meat of course like lentils, broccoli, veggies, ect!.!.!.) But those that can afford meat actually look unhealthier, of those that I have seen!. But the choice is yours (: Hope I helped!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That makes sense!. As long as they get enough protein!. U may want to consult a nutritionist about the specifics just to make sure!. If pigs- our close cousin- can live off of soybean meal, corn, and vitamin supplements, so can we!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no

I think if you take nutrition into consideration, you could raise your kid as a healthy vegetarian!.!.!. i think its even betterWww@FoodAQ@Com

This vegan thing is too new to be experimenting on my kids!. People evolved into the fantastic animals we are eating meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no!.

It is likely that as a vegan woman you consume lower levels of dangerous pesticides, which accumulate in the fat of animals and are passed to consumers through meat and dairy products!.

Your protein needs actually increase by only about 16-20% during pregnancy and can be easily met on a vegan diet of fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts and seeds!. Most American women consume more than the recommended 60 grams per day even when not pregnant!.

You do need omega-3 fatty acids but not from fish!. The FDA, in revealing findings on mercury-contaminated fish, claimed that if women had a list of all the highly-contaminated fish, they probably wouldn't eat it at all!. Instead, you can get your omega-3 fatty acids from ground flax seeds (added to baked goods or smoothies), flax seed oil, walnuts, walnut oil, canola oil, soy products, soybean oil, hempseed oil, and wheat germ!.

Milk is neither the only source of calcium, nor the best, as it contains saturated fat, cholesterol, and possibly, hormone and antibiotic residues from the cows that provide it (under duress and in sad conditions)!. It has been reported that vegans may need to consume less calcium than omnivores due to lower levels of calcium depletion, which can be caused by a high intake of animal protein!. also, a woman's body absorbs and retains calcium more efficiently during pregnancy!. Good sources of non-dairy calcium include broccoli, almonds, tahini (sesame seed paste used in sauces and dips), sesame seeds, kale, sea vegetables, fortified orange juice, calcium-processed tofu, fortified soy and rice milk!.

We each raise our children by our codes!. Whether we eat meat or are veges!. I see no dilemma either way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes you should give them meat if they want it
also have they studied a person who grew up only eating meat or plants!?
was that person female or male!?
males need meat to be big and strong and masculine girls dont period
and if you think different and are male I bet your girly and weak along with skinny and anoying
also animals are going to die anyways just like us and they would eat us so I say we eat them first
plus cows and chickens are god damn retards there better off dead
if you argue there smart you have never been around one there dumn as all hell
they live to die and there cool with it
and yes I saw your stupid peta video why do I care if the animals are kept in cages or ruffed up a little before they **** it to peices really give me a reason other than they have feelings anything else I should now because the feeling thing really doesnt bug me cause all over the world people are treated worse just look at afrinca, south america, asia, middle east nuff said
hey if you dont like the way the animals are treated fine if you just dont like the taste thats fine to but dont force it on your children!Www@FoodAQ@Com

No child has a choice in the matter until they can reach an age to make decisions for themselves!. So whether you raise your child as a vegetarian or a meat-eater, you are making a decision for them!. Everyone does!.

Infants are vegetarian for a long time anyway until they are old enough to be able to chew and digest meat!. Children do not need meat to survive or be healthy!. I was raised as a vegetarian myself and am in perfect health!. I am now a vegan mother to a very healthy vegan child!.

When our daughter reaches an age where she can decide what she wants to eat, she can eat what she likes!. Up to that point we make the decision for her, in what we believe to be best for her, as all parents do!. She will be raised to know what meat it and where it comes from- a simple truth that is sadly and wrongly denied and hidden from so many children!. If she wants to eat animal meat with the full knowledge of its source then she has at least made her decision based on factualities and a wide stand point!.

All parents make decisions for their children!. Just because our particular society deems it the 'norm' to eat common farm animals (whereas others see it as the norm to eat dog, or horse etc) that does not mean that those children are given a say in the matter by being fed these things!.

Raising a child as a vegetarian is not inflicting ones viewpoint anymore than raising a child as an omnivore- or as a christian, or a jew!.!.!.!.!.you see my point :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is not immoral if you sincerely believe that is what's best for your kids!. What makes it wrong is if you know that you are not feeding them correctly but continue to do so anyway because you just want them to follow a lifestyle you have chosen for yourself!. I mean you would not let them drink alcohol or have sex just because you happen to find it pleasurable for yourself would you!?

Please ignore the post about the American Dietetic Association (ADA)!. The poster is a well known troll who has previous accounts deleted by Yahoo for continuous violations of forum guidelines!.
That post makes it appear as if the ADA does not consider meat as part of good nutrition!. They in fact published a book called "The Healthy Beef Cookbook" which is full if recipes on how to prepare beef as part of a healthy diet,
http://www!.eatright!.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada!.!.!.

they also have a Nutritional Guideline for kids which includes meat

I don't think so at all!. It's arguable that young children need meat, but I think that they would do just fine with meat substitutes!. And think about it, people may say: "you never give them the choice of whether or not they want to be a vegetarian, maybe they won't want to", but really, if parents feed their children meat, they dont really have a choice of if they want to eat meat, if you know what I mean!. When your kids come of age, they can do research and make that decision of whether or not they want to eat meat!. If they choose to eat meat, then they can and that's their choice, just as eat meaters might choose later on in life to become a vegetarian!.

Another thing to look at is the healthy advantages of being a vegetarian!. It helps prevent cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and other forms of degenerative illness, and also helps with weight!. When you start kids out with a vegetarian diet then you are starting them off with an advantage!. Animal products are also linked to many of the ailments that tend to affect children, like colic, ear infections and the flu!.

Hope this helped!Www@FoodAQ@Com

No one needs dead animals to grow properly!. We are not carnivores and we do not need to depend on rotting flesh for health!. It is extremely unhealthy!. Packed with fat!. And it's so disgusting!. I was raised eating dead, rotting flesh growing up!. Nasty!. I am so sad about that!. All the hormones, steroids, etc!. and all the hearts that I contributed to stopping!. Breaks my heart!. But today is a new day and I am blessed that I've made the connection and can finally live in peace!. I run a child care and foster home!. No matter what a dead animal will never make it through my front door!Www@FoodAQ@Com

" Not to mention, young children arguably need meat for their growth and development!.!.!. or do they!?"

Nope!. According to the American Dietetic Association a well-planned vegetarian/vegan diet is healthy at any stage of life!.
