I buy the fertile, organic, brown eggs at the store and, because I'm in Alaska, I start them indoors in late May and plant them about twelve inches apart in mid June!. They do best in partial shade, though they will survive in full shade!. It's best to keep them out of full sun, however, or they will likely wilt!.

Make certain to keep the soil lightly moist, but be sure not to over-water to avoid drowning!.

When their plumage begins to fill in and transforms from a fuzzy gray to a mottled brown, white, or red (depending on the variety you planted) it is a good idea to hill them, like you would potatoes!.

Leave them in the ground until just after the first frost!. They are like brussles sprouts in that they will be sweeter and juicer if you leave them until after they've frozen once!.

Be certain to sprinkle daily with fresh millet and grass clippings!. They will also do well with the occasional pebble for their gizzard!.

Hope I was helpful! Good luck with your garden this summer!Www@FoodAQ@Com
