Pasta Sides: Cheesy Cheddar, natural flavoring?!

Question: Pasta Sides: Cheesy Cheddar, natural flavoring!?
What would be the natural flavoring in a cheese bowl!?

Secondly, doesn't "natural flavoring" ALWAYS mean it was from an animal!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
No It does not always come from an animal!.

The Legal definition of Natural Flavoring is:

The definition of natural flavor under the Code of Federal Regulations is: “the essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or any product of roasting, heating or enzymolysis, which contains the flavoring constituents derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof, whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional” (21CFR101!.22)!.

It is written somewhat complex , but basically it means it can be from anything , lol!.!. so unfortunately there is No way to know unless you contact the company!. I try to buy products listed on verified vegan and vegetarian sites as well as vegan on line shopping sites as they have already done the leg work !.

Hope this helps

Why would "flavoring" have to be from an animal!? What about lemon, almond, vanilla extracts!? Just the word "flavoring" sounds suspicious to me though - like it's really artificial!. If you're eating a real piece of something, it has "flavor", not "flavoring"Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most natural flavoring is derived from chemically altering vegetables (almost always corn) in a lab!. So I think you would be safe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
