Vegetarians and vegans, view on escargot?!
Escargot!. Snails!. I'm wondering if vegetarians or vegans eat them, out of plain curiosity!.
Like putting aside the fact that they're all slimy and everything!. Would a vegetarian or vegan eat them, because they were a bug, and a bug was a living creature!?
I, personally, wouldn't eat one, slim factor aside, because I used to have a pet snail a while back!. I'm a vegetarian, by the way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's a valid question and I'm glad you asked!. First off, a small clarification: snails are not insects, they are gastropods, part of the mollusk phylum!. BOTH insects and mollusks and part of the Animalia Kingdom so they are, technically, animals (as opposed to plants, fungi and bacteria)!.
It could bring up some rather interesting 'boundary issues' though, during one's course of choosing to become vege!. Where do you draw the line on what you will and wont eat and why!? I think you'll find that most vegetarians and vegans will choose not to eat ANY animals (not knowingly anyway), including insects and mollusks!. But that's a good question really!Www@FoodAQ@Com

When I wasn't a veg head, I did eat escargot once!. They're not slimy at all when cooked!. They actually have a nice texture that is like a cross between red meat and mushrooms!. They were cooked in a garlic butter sauce with chopped parsley!. The sauce part was good, but the snails had a funny taste that I didn't like!. also, the bodies were coiled, which looked gross, so I had to stop!.
I wouldn't touch one now, of course!. They're animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Insects are animals!. Their scientific classification falls under the kingdom of Animalia (their phylum is Arthropoda) along with all the other subsets of animals (mammals, fish, etc!.)!.
And no, I wouldn't eat escargot or any other insect since I don't eat animals, regardless of their classification!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't eat an insect anyway, but snails belong to the same family as oysters!. Ever see a live oyster wince away from a squirt of lemon juice!? Pretty clearly demonstrates they can feel pain!.
As for bugs, I don't kill them either!. If they get inside, I catch them and take them outside!. Why kill something if you don't have to!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

ADDITIONAL: Snails can be found in gardens, in ponds and even in the sea!. They belong to a " group of animals " with a soft body called molluscs (mollusks) which are related to oysters, clams, and other shellfish!.
Remember That All insects have three main body regions: the head, the thorax, and the abdomen!.
