Question: What do you think about this June 08 article!?
Answers:
What I think is , it is Very Sad that Children are Born to Parents who are selfish , stupid, cruel, and uncaring !.

When children die or are abused it breaks everyone's heart , but it has Nothing to do with being Vegan or Vegetarian

It took me Minutes to find 4 cases of children starving to Omnivore parents within the last Month alone and after 4 I stopped because It makes me ill !.Does this mean that all Omnivores are bad parents !? No , It means those parents who did not care for and protect their children were Bad!

I read yours , so please read mine:

I could have piled pages had I gone back a year , But what would it accomplish !?

I raised 2 Vegan sons , Now Both adults and Very healthy , My Daughter in law is Vegan as well as My 4 year old Grandson ( who was born at (8 LBS 13 OZ / 22 INCHES) He is in the 99 percentile in height and weight just like his Dad was!.

Please do not judge the many by the few , You can always Find Bad in Any Group!.

They do not present all the facts!. Vitamin D requires sunlight in order to be absorbed!. It is present in mushrooms and in fortified foods (breads, cereals)!. It is unlikely that this child was not getting vitamin D, but given the vegan diet, and adding lack of sunlight, there certainly could have been a problem!. Absorption could have been inhibited by a problem in the gastrointestinal tract, or unrelated problems with the liver or kidney!.

I think it is highly unlikely that the vegan diet alone let to or caused Rickets in this child!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would say "consider the source!."
I rarely believe anything from Fox News!.

And that article itself prints blatantly false information:
"Last year, an American vegan couple were given a life sentence for starving their 6-week-old baby to death!."

That couple was not vegan, it was just creative tap-dancing on the part of their attorney!. Court documents state several times that they gave the child cod liver oil, and took large doses of it themselves!. This, of course, means that the baby killers were members of that wacko dietary group- OMNIVORES!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think it's because of veganism, I think it's because these parents are idiots!. Obviously, if your six-week old is starving, there's something wrong with the parents!. All a six-week old needs is breast milk!. And the girl with the degenerative bone disease also has idiot parents!. If I have a child, he/she will be vegan, and you better believe I'll take her to the pediatrician to make sure she's getting all the vitamins/minerals etc that she needs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think that like any other diet, a vegan diet needs to be healthy and balanced!. Parents who are going to raise their children vegan need to educate themselves and find out what they'll need to supplement their child's diet with!.

It's easy to get plenty of vitamin D by drinking fortified non-dairy milks, eating other fortified foods or taking vegan supplements!. It's when people go into things blind/ignorant that a vegan diet can be dangerous!.

I also think that it's sad when things like this happen for multiple reasons!. It's of course sad that that girl has to suffer!. That's a tragedy!. But it's also sad that people are going to read that article and take it to mean that a vegan diet is inherently bad or dangerous and that children can't/shouldn't be raised vegan!.

Stereotypes about a vegan diet are already damaging enough, but when ignorant people (and I mean ignorant in the true sense of the word, not as a synonym for stupid) wind up in situations like this and draw scrutiny, it does even more damage and likely scares people away from a diet that can be extremely healthy (and cruelty-free)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it was irresponsible of them to not look out for her nutrition!. Most people are low in vitamin D, because it's available in very few foods and most people get it from sun exposure, including meat eaters!. It is artificially added to milk as a supplement!. But it's added to vegan foods as a supplement too, that could easily have been eaten!. Rickets happens in meat eaters too!. Malnutrition happens in omnivores, vegetarians, vegans, you name it!. Eating healthy is important and so is a small amount of sun exposure!. They picked on them because they're vegan, but how many other cases of rickets have not been reported as "meat eater gets rickets" !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

it's stupidWww@FoodAQ@Com

Um!.!.!.!. what's there to say!. One vegan child got sick when there are thousands of healthy ones out there!.

Look at the millions of children who are obese, overweight, and ALREADY have a degenerative condition like diabetes before they're even teenagers!. What do you think about that!?

The point is that it's the parent's fault!. Not the diet's!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Imagine all the articles that could be written about kids who have diabetes and early risk of heart disease thanks to the standard Western diet forced on them by their parents!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Who are you gonna let tell you what to feed your kids!?
Peta or Dr!. Faisal Ahmed!?

Let's see, humans have been consuming meat for at least 20,000 years!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i would like to read what she ate!. what they mean by "strict vegan diet" needs to be explained!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
