How Do I Refrain from processed food all together?!

Question: How Do I Refrain from processed food all together!?
I'm new at being a vegan and I'm kind of having a hard time!. I've almost got myself away from all the meat and dairy products!. I'm trying to become full vegan and only eat fruits and veggies!. I'm trying to get away from all the fats and sugars but it's hard because I'm only 15 and living with my grandparents!. They don't even approve of me being vegan! I've tried to tell them that I refuse to eat one of God's creatures but they wont listen to me!. I was wondering if anyone could help me out here!? I'm also trying to do it for the betterment of my body!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi Ash,
You're going to have to take the time to plan and make your meals in advance!. Use websites like http://veganlunchbox!.blogspot!.com/ , http://www!.veganoutreach!.org/guide/what_!.!.!. , http://www!.veganchef!.com/ to find simple recipes that you can make from scratch!. Maybe ask Grandma or Grandpa to give you a hand!. Sketch what you're going to have for breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner for the upcoming week!. If you get one of them to help you prepare something, they will get to see alot of the wholesome, nutritious ingredients going into your meals- and maybe they'll worry much less!.

also, Ash, I HIGHLY recommend you take a multivitamin to ensure you're getting your b12 (very important!), vitamin D, calcium, and riboflavin!. Make sure the multivitamin is VEGETARIAN, and says so on the bottle!. Sometimes multivitamens will have things like fish oil and gelatin so be careful!. http://www!.veganfoodpyramid!.com/vegan-py!.!.!. Know which foods provide which nutrients, and how much of each food group you should aim to eat everyday!. You don't have to be maticulous, just eat a little bit of soy product, a variety of leafy greens, nuts and seeds, colorful fruits and veggies, and whole grains like brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa, millet, barley, ect!. Pick recipes that use a variety of whole foods!. http://www!.vegancoach!.com/nutrition-for-!.!.!.

Print a copy of this and show it to your grandparents to read!. http://library!.thinkquest!.org/20922/why_!.!.!.

A vegan lifestyle can be very rewarding and very nutritious if you do it responsibly!. Good for you for seeking unprocessed foods!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your body needs some fats and proteins in order to function properly and to absorb all the nutrients in the fruits and veggies!. (Many of the vitamins and minerals - especially in vegetables - are fat-soluble, meaning they need to be eaten with some form of fat in order to get the maximum benefits!.) Black beans and rice are a perfect meat-free protein!.

Offer to cook a vegan meal for them - something like chili with beans instead of meat!. Go along during the grocery shopping trips and pick out foods that are more to your dietary wishes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I tried vegetarianism for four months and I hated itWww@FoodAQ@Com

grow your own garden!.

your grandparents need to get an education on good eating!.!. apparently i assume!.!. they've become like most!.!. thinking processed food is actually good for you let alone food!.

i've even heard some go "no, i'm not cooking vegetables!.!.!." to "well, you can have fruits and veggies but as a snack only"!.

no wonder we're in bad shape!.!.!. we've become a processed food society and it's killing us!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

vegan, 34 years!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

go shopping with your grandparents and pick up something from the fruit and vegetable aisle like an eggplant, which is great fried in oil and cooked in black bean sauce!.

in addition to fruits and vegetables, there is grains like quinoa, nuts like walnuts, sunflower seeds!. could also make soup from veggies and beans

here is 12 thousand vegan recipes!. hope you find something you like

Eat just fresh fruits and vegetables!. You need protein so eat nuts and dried beans cooked in vegetable broth!. Search the web for vegan menus and recipes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

shop the outside of the store, buying produce, dried beans such as lentils, great northern beans etc!., nuts, tofu, cheeses, tea, coffee, juicesWww@FoodAQ@Com

You have to look for "vegan" labeled foods!. I would research the internet for vegan foods and buy those!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

try to get your grandparents on a saturday trip to a farmers market there is something there for everybody and your probably going to have to learn to cookWww@FoodAQ@Com

I would get together with folks in your community or wherever and start a community garden (organic of course) and that will bring people together and it will feed people and move people away from processed foods!. There is plenty of vegan foods with the little V on it or whatever that are processed as hell and the trick to avoiding that is eating good healthy fruits, veggies, nuts and grains but not being so strict that you cannot enjoy yourself!. Some foods are processed but not in the boxed mac and cheese sense but the we have been doing this for hundreds of years sense like Soy Sauce or Tofu or Breads!.!.!. If you cannot grow your own garden for whatever reason try and find good organic local produce and maybe try and get in touch with the farmers and see how they do it!. If you D!.I!.Y!. you are taking a direct action you are telling Krapt Foods and Nobisco and ADM and all those others to shove I can eat with out you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, remember that cooking is also a 'process'!. To avoid all processed foods you'd have to eat everything in the natural way that it was found!. I!.e!. raw!.

But, I think I know what you mean!.!.!. all that boxed food that has been made into 'products' etc!.

Well, just start teaching yourself how to cook!. It all starts with getting some recipe books and trying some of the recipes, and getting ideas for your own creations!. I basically got started by buying myself a Wok and just got going on stir frying stuff!. That's the easies and fastest way!. Wash and chop up a bunch of veggies, high heat some oil, throw in garlic and ginger, then throw in the veggies, stir stir stir (maybe put the lid on with a little water for the harder veggies), stir stir, add some flavour, soy sauce or whatever!.!.!. done!. Chuck your stir fry on top of some rice or noodles!. So, all ya gotta do is get yer hands on some ingredients!. If granny and pappy 'll get you the ingredients you want, that's all you need!. Most grannies love recipes and cooking, so get some recipes and show them to her and say "Wow, I've love to try to make this" and see if you can get ol' granny on the bandwagon!.

Yeah, God's creatures -- you yourself are one of God's creatures, right!? So, why not treat yourself well too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
