More curiosity: Views on honey now?!

Question: More curiosity: Views on honey now!?
Okay, after the whole "what's your view on escargot" question, I'm curious again, hahaha!. Hey, at least you all get two points easily!.

Well, there's someone running around answers trying to be the Voice Of The Bees and preaching about how bad honey is!.!.!. so, now I'm curious if there are any vegans out there actually do eat honey!? I'm pretty sure there aren't, but it got me wondering!. And how about vegetarians and omnivores!? If you went vegan would you still eat honey!?

I'm a vegetarian, and sorry if I offend you or anything, but I eat honey!. And I wouldn't if I was a vegan only because I believe insects and such can feel pain like animals and humans (like a snail getting salted :[ ), so taking honey from a bee is kind of like milk from a cow or eggs from a chicken in my eyes!.

But what do you all think!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I'm a vegetarian and I eat honey!. I love honey!. I don't eat it every day, obviously, but I will if I get the chance!. I'm a regular old vegetarian, so it's no big deal!. Vegans don't eat it (obviously) but most people don't pay too much attention to it!.

I don't feel that bees are really that harmed by it!. Yeah, they don't want stuff taken from them, but it doesn't KILL the bee or physically even touch the bee!.

My grandfather was a beekeeper (and so was his father [and so was MY father growing up]) and they cared about the bees like you would care about cats and dogs!. Their bees did not feel any pain and were not hurt or killed -- they were nurtured and babied like you would want them to be!. Yes, they harvested their honey, but that's why they kept them!. People who farm and have private hives of bees (not factory farms of bees) take good care of the bees because they want them to live long and productive lives!. Obviously!. So, if you love honey and care about bees, buy from private farmers at farmer's market so you know they were taken care of and not hurt in any way!.

(I know *exactly* who you're talking about!.!.!. voice of bees!.!.!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Honey is NOT vegan!. Some vegans may eat it if they are only vegan for health reasons!. But vegans who are vegan for moral/ethical reasons, do not eat honey!. It comes from the exploitation of animals, so I dont see how someone can call themselves vegan, and still eat honey!. http://www!.vegetus!.org/honey/honey!.htmWww@FoodAQ@Com

Vegan who doesnt eat honeyWww@FoodAQ@Com

With the Colony Collapse Disorder affecting bees, there soon won't be any honey to argue over!. Of course, without bees, fruits and vegetable won't get pollinated either!.

In all likelihood I will never be vegan!. But if I were I would probably embrace their dogma and forego honey!. Until then I love it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm vegan and I don't eat honey!.

The thought of eating bee saliva grosses me out!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not trying to be martyr or anything, but here's my opinion -

I like to view the taking of honey/milk etc!. as stealing!. And the consumers of honey are eating stolen goods!. FACT - honey isn't for our consumption, the bees slave away all day collecting the pollen to make this stuff and feed on!.

Since when were we part of this process!? It's like we let them do all the hard work, and we get the profit, that's just not right!. If we want honey so bad we should make it ourselves - although I don't think we can!. There are many alternatives to honey such as maple syrup or agave nectar/syrup so there is really no excuse for saying one likes honey too much!. TBH, I was always taught that honey is good for us etc and I just never thought of using other alternatives - not that I was a BIG honey fan anyway!. But now that I'm aware I do!.

So to get back on topic - I don't eat honey!. And I don't think anyone can really justify it!. People think it's harmless for the bees but they don't know that the queen is killed over and over to make the bees work harder and they are given sugar as a substitute for honey while we steal their honey!. It's sick!.!.!. Just my £0!.02!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
