What's your reason for not being an omnivore?!

Question: What's your reason for not being an omnivore!?
I'm just curious!. Cause from what I've learned humans through evolution became omnivores!. Capable of eating meat and plants efficiently!. I'm not bashing you guys!. I just want your guys side of the story!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
The reason humans evolved to become omnivorious was need-based!. As hunter-gatherers, it was the easiest way for humans to obtain energy, and it coincided with the lifestyle of the time!. As humans evolved, however, into the super-efficient, feeling, thinking, rationalizing beings we are today, things changed!.

We (and I say we meaning the typical Western human, living in an industrialized nation with a sustainable income) have a wealth of food choices available to us!. You say as vegetarians, we don't ultilize all sources of food for fuel!. Tell me then, when you go into the grocery store, do you buy out the whole store!? If not, you're not utilizing every source of food for fuel, either!. There are hundreds of animals in the animal kingdom!. How many have you eaten!? 5, 6!? As an industrialized society, we HAVE to pick and chose what we put into our bodies!. There's no need based food selection for most of us!. We know we're getting food!. We just choice what, exactly, that food is!. Just because we are capable of digesting both cows and lizards efficiently, doesn't mean every person needs to eat both cows and lizards!. It's the same with plants and animals!.

We also have a wealth of new knowledge in recent years!. As omnivores, we have evolved to need specifc nutrition, that is most easily obtained through both plant and animal sources!. However, with the knowledge we have now, it is incredibly simple to know exactly what we need, exactly where to get it, and exactly how much of it we need!. Tell me, what other animal can do this!?

also, as rational beings, we have the capable to reduce suffering where suffering is thought to be!. Since there is no biological need for meat, humans can make the educated choice to cut it out of their diets for moral reasons, something no other species is capable of!. When we're talking about people in third world countries who are still eating on a need basis, of course they should eat whatever they have available to them!. But you and I, we're not hurting for food!. We have an infinate amount of it available to us, as well as the knowledge on how to be a responsible, healthful, and ethical consumer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Personally, my choice not to do with evolution!. Lots of reasons, but I have to say I have more energy and feel so much better since I've stopped eating meat/dairy/eggs etc!. So I just go by what my own body tells me, its happy so I'm happy :-)

Have had blood tests not so long ago and alls well on that score so I'm properly nourished!.

Perhaps not eating meat is the next stage of Human Evolution ;-)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I can only go by personal experienceWww@FoodAQ@Com

i do not follow the bible and do not believe that animals were put here for our use!. i look at the way that mankind treats the earth, animals, and each other and it disgusts me!. we are a selfish species!.

i do not eat animals because i believe that it is bad for you, hurts the environment, and causes horrible suffering to animals and humans alike!. we can receive the same nutrients from plants that we do from animals minus the meds, saturated fats, cholesterol, etc!.!.

it takes a lot of strenght to look past the advertising and big companies that want us to believe that we "need" meat and dairy to live!. i am vegan and have NEVER been healthier or happier in my life!Www@FoodAQ@Com

vegan and never going backWww@FoodAQ@Com

personally, i don't eat meat because i cannot bear the fact that i am eating something that had feelings and went through torture and pain to satisfy my hunger!. If someone is in the middle of no where "living off the land" and they have to kill animals for food to keep from starving then yeah, i think that that is okay, but to live in a civilized place where we have huge buildings packed wall to wall with steroid pumped, disease ridden animals who are being treated terribly so that we can have food on our plates is wrong (in my opinion)!. Humans in today's day and age have so many other options to choose from that don't involve killing an innocent animal!. And, if someone does choose to continue eating meat, then eat free range meat so that the animal doesn't have to endure inhumane conditions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We really became Omnivores more through circumstance then through natural evolution!. Prior to that we were gatherers !. Killing animals was both dangerous and extremely hard with primitive tools !.

Your second statement that we are Capable of eating meats and plants efficiently is not quite correct either!. Our digestive system is extremely poor for digesting meat !. Our Intestines are way too long, we do not have the proper Acids for digesting "spoiled " meat , and we do not produce enough Bile to digest medium/large amounts of animal fats !. I would say overall we are Much more efficient digesting Plants !. The average Adult does have undigested meat throughout their intestines ( you should Read Elvis's Autopsy sometime) and meat causes us to build plaque , clogging our Arteries !. Plants do not do any of these things!.

As a Predator animal ( without weaponry) we are FRAIL , our skin tears easily , no fur protection or thick skin , Our nails are basically useless as "claws" , we Run slow , we are poor climbers, we have bad eyesight , poor sense of smell , and our teeth are not capable of biting through bone, muscle , and skin !.

We do though have the brains and opposable thumbs!. Having this brain allowed us to become the Dominant Being , but with that we also became Tyrants!. We treat the lesser beings as if theirs lives are meaningless unless to serve us in all capacities!. Our arrogance has also caused Havoc with our environment !. Mercury , Cadmium , Arsenic and a vast number of other chemicals in our waters !.Plus Destruction of our Rain Forests!. !.
Unfortunately we are doing a pretty poor job , we have world wide Starvation ( while 80-90 percent of all crops are fed to Livestock ) ,Homeless people , child abuse , marital abuse , mental disease , we have the very Rich and the very Poor , We have diseases/illnesses running rampant as Cancer , Autism , Heart attacks and Strokes !.We have become resistant to lord knows how many different antibiotics, new strains of flu , and people are now taking medicine like Candy!.

Last if you believe in the Bible , then God put animals in Eden as our "Companions" and No flesh was eaten !. God considered that Paradise!.

If you do not believe in the Bible , then do you think really Animals were Put here , For Us , The Human animal , To abuse on so many levels !?

Some one mentioned , you reap what you sow and our state of being currently shows that !.
Personally I do not believe animals are here for us to do with as we see fit !. We certainly do not need to eat them , we actually live longer Not eating them and I think that says it all !.

I have not eaten meat in well over 35 years, I take No Meds and No supplements , Yet I am in perfect health !. I am not alone in this as I know Many Vegans also in perfect health , strong and fit !. On the other hand Most Friends I have my age that eat meat are on several Meds (examples : for High blood pressure , Cholesterol , Blood thinners etc etc) Most also take Vitamins which I have nothing against , I just do not need them!.

Did you ever see Vegan Body builders !?

http://www!.veganbodybuilding!.org/main!.ht!.!.!.

I agree that fats are important to Humans and as Vegans/Vegetarians we get them through Nuts , Oils , Some fruits , and even Grains!. While olive oil is Normally called a Monounsaturated Fat , It still contains Both Saturated and Polyunsaturated fats!.

Vegan ForeverWww@FoodAQ@Com

Simple!.
1!. Conclusive studies with casein and other animal proteins showed beyond a shadow of a doubt that they encourage cancer growth in all three stages at any percentage in the diet whilst plant protein does the exact opposite!.
2!. Cholesterol is absolutely necessary for health, that's why my body has this great ability to make its' own!. In China a blood cholesterol of 70mg was recorded regularly in vegetarians/vegans there compared to the standing rate here!.
3!. There are no recorded cases of cholesterol related heart disease in people with a cholesterol count below 150 mg, the average meat eaters cholesterol is 210 mg whilst the average vegans is 140 mg!.
4!. Animal protein; being acidic in nature; has this interesting effect of making my blood more acidic and the way my body counter acts that is by releasing an alkaline substance; calcium!. Animal protein leads to bone loss!. If dairy prevented us from osteoporosis then wouldn't the countries with highest dairy consumption have lowest incidents of osteoporosis!? Well, it's the opposite!. The higher the countries dairy consumption, the higher its osteoporosis!.
5!. Spinach a green leafy vegetable provides me with 12 grams of protein per 100 grams whilst steak provides 13 grams per 100 grams!. Although a little less protein, spinach also contains vitamin K, vitamin A, manganese, folate, magnesium, iron, vitamin c, vitamin B2, calcium, potassium, vitamin B6, tryptophan, dietary fiber, copper, vitamin B1, phosphorous, zinc, vitamin E, omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin B3, selenium and NO saturated fats or cholesterol!. What has steak got!? Tryptophan, vitamin B12, zinc, selenium, phosphorous, vitamin B6, iron, vitamin B3 and vitamin B2 a lot of which is destroyed through cooking!. Who's winning in this argument!?
6!. Vitamin B12 the ONLY vitamin unattainable through plants!. It's in meat because it's formed by a bacteria, that bacteria grows in the soil but our intense cleaning kills it!. If we weren't so crazy on that I wouldn't have to supplement!.
7!. Saving water!. I live in Australia a drought country, we're always told to save water and veganism helps me!. It takes roughly 2,500 gallons of water to produce a pound of beef but it only takes 60 gallons of water to produce a pound of potatoes, ALL vegetation requires less water to produce!.
8!. The climate!. Methane produced by farm animals equates to 18% of total green house emission on the planet!.
9!. I know SOME animals are killed or abused to produce my food (cow and chicken manure, ground up animals as fertilizer, insects) BUT that is still no where near as many as are killed via a meat eater!. At least my food isn't fed disgusting things, like their own species and cardboard!. Not to mention not being killed in such a barbaric way that they release so many hormones into their blood stream!.!.!. Which you eat!. Before the Western world came to Japan they ate a mostly plant based diet and women started menstruating on average at 15 - 17!. Now!?!? About 11!. I wonder why could it have to do with the estrogen in the milk they drink!? I don't eat soy but regardless, soy has phtyoestrogen which TRIES to act like estrogen but fails miserably, dairy has real estrogen and can do the job efficiently!.

So, what's your argument for eating meat!?

I honestly don't give a crap what's a natural diet for humans, when humans first started up i doubt we were able to source our foods from every continent and climate in the world and now that we can I want the ideal diet and I STRONGLY believe that the ideal diet is a vegan diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A bucket load of research, go read some books a good starter is "the china study" but there are better ones!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My parents are both vegetarians and have been since the 80s I believe!. I was raised in a vegetarian household!. There are plenty of meals that one can eat with just a "plant" diet and still maintain a healthy life!. Even though my parents are vegetarians, they do not force me to become one!. They say it is my decision to eat meat and I can if I choose to!. I personally don't eat meat because I know that it is something that my parents did out of love for me and my brother!. They wouldn't do or raise us in the wrong way so I see it as a sign of love that was passed from them to us!. I also don't think the smell/look of meat is appealing at all!. I've tried meat about twice and did not like it!. Some people say its because it wasn't cooked right or the right kind!. But I know I just don't like it!. I also think that being vegetarian is heailther than eating meat!. I've seen so many people get sick from bad meat and there are so many reasons why its just!.!.!.wrong! There is this notion that people have that you NEED meat to survive and live and that is not true!. I also think about the basic life of the animal itself and find it sad that its life must be cut short in order to "feed the masses" if you will!. Meat stays in your colon for awhile!.!.!.7 years I've heard!. The stuff just isn't good for you!. And if people were really intended to eat meat like lions and tigers when you see roadkill on the side of the road you would salvate and go crazy for it!. It is meat isn't it!? A real animal eats flesh no matter what!. In order to eat meat it was to be cooked a certain amount or a person can get sick from it!. If people were intended to eat meat I don't think they would get sick so often from it!. And since (So Cal) is filled with great vegan/vegetarian places to eat/shop I never go hungry :D
*and I do not like eggs *blech*Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maybe this might help you!. I am a vegetarian because my stomach can not process meat!. If I eat it I end up sick for days on end!. It also isn't because I haven't ate meat in a while, because I would get sick so much and not know what it was!. Finally three years ago I stopped eating meat and my stomach problems went away!. Now, I don't ever eat meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wow, I just love when people refer to the bible when talking about vegetarianism!. Most people who do it have probably never read it in the first place!. If they had comprehended it, they would see their statement is not justified!. The bible also says women are sinners and are evil!. Do you live your life accordingly!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am an omnivore who chooses not to eat meat!. Omnivore describes an animal who can eat either meat or veggies if they choose to!. I became a vegetarian in my early 20's after reading Diet For a Small Planet!. I never liked the taste of meat anyway!. I'm 53 now!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

b/c i love animals!. they shouldn't be murdered just so human can eat!.we don't have to kill it's 2009!. soy and other alt are now widely available and have been so for the last ten yrs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ive been vegan for 6yrsWww@FoodAQ@Com

my friend is vegan because she cant bring herself to eat anything from animals because its "cruel"!. i respect her decision but i could never do it!. like you said, God gave us animals to eat!.!.!.it says so in the bible!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians are omnivores, your knowledge is flawed!.

The type of food you eat is based off an entire species, not just an individual!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It was very difficult to change my omnivore diet to that of carnivorous likings; however, bacon won me over!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

ANIMAL CRUELTY is my biggest issue, but I also feel better being veg and generally enjoy eating non-meat foods :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I had to look up what omnivore meant!.!.!. couldn't you just have said not eating meat!? LOL

I do it mainly for health reasons!. I do believe that God put animals on the planet for us to eat, I'm not one of those PETA people or anything!. I actually dislike most animals, so its definitely not because of that!.!.!. I feel lighter and healthier without meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
