I'm a vegan & into animal rights but my boyfriend is an 'omnivore' and wants to go hunting.?!

Question: I'm a vegan & into animal rights but my boyfriend is an 'omnivore' and wants to go hunting!.!?
He's talked about being a pescatarian (!?) which means he eliminates meats other than fish and general seafood which is alright with me!. I never wanted to change who he was going into the relationship but it would be nice if we had the same ideals!. He is super supportive of my veganism and I try to never give him a hard time about eating meat but now that he's talking about hunting, I'd feel like a hypocrite if it didn't bother me!. I consider myself an environmentalist and an animal rights activist to a point!. I don't like to push my beliefs and I try to respect other's choices because so many people respect mine!. Should I say anything about it to him or let it go!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I find hunting to be a much better way to obtain meat that purchasing processed meats that have been through the hell of a factory farm!.
You could tell him you would prefer him to hunt for any meat he eats, that way he would not be supporting the factory farms, and the meat he eats will come from animals that have lived in the wild, and not in a factory farm!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should tell him how you feel, but let him make his own decision!. In my opinion, people need to hunt to an extent to keep animals from starving themselves to death!. I was a vegetarian for almost 2 years and I still went hunting, I just gave the meat to my family!. I know it's hard to know what the right thing to do is, but everyone needs to make that decision for themselves!. I would definitely let him know you don't like hunting though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm sure it wouldn't bug him if you just asked him to kill them quickly and therefore less painfully, and then ask him to stop talking about hunting around you!. There you are helping a bit with being a little active with animal rights, your boyfriend is happy, and you're getting your thoughts out without really nagging him!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just let him go!. You can voice your concerns politely, but other then that just let him be!. I agree hunting is wrong, but it's his choice!. If you nag him out of he may leave you or it could cause an argument about who nags who more on your differences!. You two really need to discuss the hunting thing, but respectfully!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

hmm well since he is so supportive about your descisions maybe dont tell him not to do it but possibly ask him not to tell you about it if u know what i mean like ask him to only tell if hes hes going to to hunting butnot any deetails tell him u respect his descisions but dont want to be part of the hunting!.!.!.!.he has friends for that talkWww@FoodAQ@Com

I would honestly view you as a hypocrite if you claim to be a animal rights activist and then support your boyfriend when he goes to kill animals!. You are not a activist if you do not stand up for what you believe in!. I'm a meat-eater, just so you know!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should let him do what he wants if you want to make him happy, if he's happy you should be too :) As long as he's nice about it!. No one said you had to go though, so at least your not killing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm one too :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would tell him how you feel!.!.!. he needs to know and when he sees that it bothers you, he might stop or might not, I don't know!.!.!. But it's still important that you let him know because that's a pretty big thing to be hiding from him!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think you should let him aware of how you feel about the subject!. By the sounds of it he'll understand that it makes you uncomfortable!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

let him do as he wishes!.!.

deal with it!.!. maturely!.!.!.

i am with a wife who's a meat eater!.!.!.!. for many years!.!.!. what about it!?

i'm a vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

vegan, 34 years!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hunting is no different than fishing, it's killing wild animals to eat!. If you are fine with one there is no logical reason to object to another!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Stay at home and tell him to take a friend who actually can tolerate the sport!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You don't sound very compatible to me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

just go to the supermarket where no animals where harmedWww@FoodAQ@Com

I have a collegue who is vegan and an activist in animal rights!.
Her husband is a meat eater, sometime she went to another state (on business trip), that state produce big prawn!. She often bought some of those big prawn and bring back home and cook it for her husband to eat, she doesn't eat those prawn of course!.

I am vegetarian, but she seem like doesn't believe me, she think i am a lier and she did a lot of thing to cause damage to me (on work)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you were a true vegan and compassionate in what you believed in you wouldnt dare even think twice about going hunting to kill a innoce animal that is minding its own business place yourself into how the animal would feel when it is dieing a slow unbelievably painful death!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.you seem to not be fully vegan to me you are acting like a hypocrite i dont care if it is culturally based let that be them to do it alone you dont have to go with them my parents are from jamaica and not rastafarians but my mom supports me in being veggie even if she wont beWww@FoodAQ@Com

Okay!. You've answered your own question!. You don't like to push your beliefs!. There's your answer!.

Isn't it a bit humanocentric to force your concepts of "rights" on animals!?

"Rights" are a human construct!. The concept doesn't apply to animals!. Animals do not observe rights, nor do they assert rights!. They don't even realize that rights are a possibility!. They have only the option of engaging in the struggle for survival, which implies the "right" to attempt to continue existing!.

Heck, we can't even get people to observe the rights of other people, much less animals!. Besides, we are well fed Westerners!. Who are we to tell the Native Americans that they can't hunt buffalo or seal!? Who are we to judge the diets of Amazon forest dwellers!? If we had to live in the REAL world like 85 percent of the rest of the humanity, we'd eat whatever we could get our hands on!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I know this is going to sound harsh and I do not know any other way to say it !.!.

When Men go Hunting it is not to keep the population of deer under control or to help the deer in any way !.!.That is BS !.!. and yes i can prove it

They ONLY hunt for one reason period!.!.The Enjoy killing an animal !.!. The like the feeling of aiming their gun at a LIVE target and then pulling the trigger !.!.and they get excited that they have killed it !.!.

So here is My Dilemma , How are you going to feel about him after he does that !? Personally even if I cared deeply for someone , or even Loved them there would be issues that I could Not accept !.!. To me this would be one of them !.!. Maybe you can !.!. Is this relationship serious !? If you marry and have children then what !?

I believe you should discuss your feelings with him !. Sometimes compromise is deciding which Issue is the "Most" important to the other !.!.it is Not always or even close to always 50/50!.!.There May come times you do not want to do Something, but it is so important to HIM!.!. So you do it !.!. You see what I mean !? (example) I Went to My mother in laws enough times when I REALLY did Not want to go , but I did it for him!.!.

I also find it odd, that knowing your position and feelings , He would Now want to go hunting <!?> That would also send off red flags in my head !.!.

If you keep this in and he goes !.!.who knows you may even feel guilt yourself!. So as I said Talk to him, discuss it, and tell him how strongly you feel !.!. If your Love can not handle a true discussion then there is Not much there to start with!.

It is fine to be Polite , and you do not have to throw flour, I never have done that!. But I do have limits, and I will not compromise what I know to be true , and I will speak out when wrong is being done !.

If you stand back and let someone do wrong !.!.Are you then not as guilty for doing nothing !? This may sound extreme ,but let's say you saw someone beating a dog and did nothing to stop them
!.!.!. you see what I mean !? Just because it is legal does Not make it right or better !.!.!.

That is Part of what Animal Rights activist stand for , as an activist you are saying I believe Animals have the Right to live free , and Not be harmed !.!. even Bambi !.!.

Of Course it is all your decision and this is just My opinion , which I hope makes you think hard about it !.!.!.

PS: I understand that shooting can be fun !. I am an expert Shot , Very qualified on Many weapons , but I Only Shoot Targets , Not Live animals!.!.!.!. I mentioned this because maybe skeet or target shooting could be a compromise !? Either that or have him shoot with a Camera !.!.lol

Well, hunting deer controls population and keeps them from starving to death in the winter when food is scarce!. I would tend to think of hunting as a more humane way to get meat!. The animals aren't caged and confined their whole lives in order to provide us with food!. I don't personally have the stomach for hunting, because I have such a soft spot for animals!. However, I have no problem with people hunting if they eat what they kill!. I have to admit getting shot is probably a better way to go than getting mauled by a mountain lion or something too!. Nature is brutal!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No person or match is ever 100% perfect!. The illusion that we should seek that perfection has caused many people to walk away from good relationships!.

You two have views that seem to clash on this point, but not as much as you may think!. As horrible as it seems, death is part of the balance of nature!. Many of the species that are legal to hunt really do need natural predators in their environment!. That's how they evolved, and they will breed disease and exhaust their food sources without the natural culling of their population!.

I know it's a conflict!. Killing is awful, but the natural balance of nature requires it!. Our messed environment means that many animals don't have the natural predators they need!. We are the predators!.

Sorry this is so long-winded!. Just broadening the perspective here!. It's been a long week and I've had a couple glasses of wine :-)Www@FoodAQ@Com
