Although you don't have to practice the same lifestyle as her, you should respect it!. Most vegetarians/vegans feel very strongly about animal rights (I'm not sure what your girlfriend's reason for being vegetarian are; there are many reasons including environmental and health reasons, as well)!.
It is depressing when people make ignorant comments like that!. If I had an omnivore boyfriend (which I don't, my boyfriend is vegan like me), I would not be happy!.!.I probably would say something, but maybe your girlfriend didn't want to make a big deal out of it!. Inside, she is probably sad that the one she loves doesn't respect her choice to extend her sphere of compassion to other species!. One of my ex-boyfriends said something like, "what's with you being vegetarian!? I'd eat someone's pet dog if I had to"!. That was one of the reasons for me breaking up with him!. Not the main reason though, mind you, that was him pushing the sexual stuff too fast!. But I didn't want to date someone who is so, I don't know, jerkish about it!. You may want to watch your back around your girlfriend-- I have a vegan friend, and he's a guy, but I'm sure he'd break up with a girl if she said something like what you did!.
