Vegans.... i have a moral dilemma. My hedgehog is eating live mealworms!!?!

Question: Vegans!.!.!.!. i have a moral dilemma!. My hedgehog is eating live mealworms!!!?
Hedgehogs looove meal worms, but won't eat them unless they're alive!. They also rot like a day after dying, even when refridgerated!.

I've always fed my hedgie worms from the pet shop and recently i've been beginning to doubt whether this is okay!.

On the one hand, the worms are alive and who knows how much pan they feel being eaten alive!?

On the other hand, i want to give my hedgehog the best possible life in captivity since he's domesticated!. If he were in the wild, he would be eating the worms anyway!. It's natural for him!. Plus, the hedgehog food from the store is not very tasty or nutritious for him!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You have to look at this from a different view,

If your Same hedge hog was living in the Wild!.!.!.He would be eating lots of insects !.!. you are Not giving him anymore then he would have eaten on his own !. So in one way , it is an really an exchange !.!.

You are feeding him worms indoors ,and in the wild he would probably would be eating even more bugs !.!.

They also eat , mushrooms, grass roots , berries , melons, and watermelon!.

So it is Much Different then killing and abusing animals unnecessarily !. Hope that helped!.!.!.!.!.

EDIT: I am no expert , but was reading that too many meal worms can cause intestinal blockage in Hedge hogs and should be used more as a treat !.!. I do not mean to assume anything as you may already know this !. They say you can also give them other fruits and veggies ,even small amounts of baby food, but they need insects as "earthworms "!.!.!. or even a slug (ewww!.!.sorry) they say No bread , no milk as it can be almost fatal to some !.!.

They are very cute !.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They are just worms!. Apparently it's natural for hedgehogs to eat worms, so don't worry about that!. What's unnatural is keeping an animal in a cage!. You don't rescue animals from pet stores because they will just breed another one to replace it!. I don't buy from pet stores for that reason!.!.!.but that's just me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

uh, what's veganism got to do with what a hedgehog does naturally!?

this is why people can't take us vegans seriously!.!.!.!.!. this is ridiculous!.

seriously, who's the troll!? grow up!.!.!. this question is pathetic!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

vegan, 34 years!.!. (you can report me also, since it makes you feel validated!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are able to choose to be a vegan!. The hedgehog is not!. You have to feed him what makes him healthy even if you don't like it!. If he were in the wild that is what he would eat so that is what he should eat now!. Humans have digestive systems that are capable of either having meat or not!. Other animals are different and need to eat what their diet requires!. Do not feel guilty for it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You need to do what is best for your little boy!. It is wrong to try and change an animal's nature to suit your moral preferences, especially if doing so is to their detriment!. If you are truly uncomfortable feeding your hedgehog properly, give him to someone who is willing to!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

This does seem like quite a dilemma!. I don't know anything about hedgehogs and I'm not going to pretend I do!. There is no alternative to meal worms!?

You could go half way and give him just enough fruits and then only a few meal worms!. Less death, no bowel issues!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Due to the neurological system of worms, they do not have centralised nervous systems and therefore cannot feel pain, their systems are just based on reflexes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You have a pet hedgehog!? Cool! Does it teach you road safety!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mrs!.Nom !.!.!.I would suggest you try taking care of a wild animal gone domesticated and see how far you get and while you're at it you aren't helping one inch so try and learn something for once!.There is one question for Nom!.!.are you a troll!?!?
If your hedgie has no problems with the worms and one of the others had said that the worms can't feel a thing then you don't have to worry!.
What you do have to worry about is if he starts to leave the worms to die off!. If he does that then check with your local vet!. But if you seem to feel very worried about the variety he needs look for the hedgies online and see what all they say on them!. That should help ya out!.

Have a good one!.

It is a delima when you have an animal that eats meat!. My way of dealing with that was to think of caring for a companion animal in terms of commitment to an individual!. For me, it was like the commitment I made to my husband!. While I feel myself obligated in some way to care for all of humanity, my commitment to care for my husband is special and unique!. I would not drive to the store at midnight to get cough syrup for the average person on the street, but I would for him!.

In the same way, while feel obligated to prevent as much suffering as possible in the animal kingdom, I promised this specific animal (in my case it was a cat) that I would provide all her needs, including her need for a meat-based diet!. To me, trying to force an animal to live by my standards, and to eat a diet she was not designed for, would be to break my promise to care for her!. It would also be a violation of local animal cruelty laws!.

However, if you feel you cannot in good conscience provide the kind of diet your hedgehog needs, it would be in his/her best interests to find another home for him/her!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've got pet cats, most of which are rescues ( I foster them) and are fed a raw diet themselves!.
I make their food which is 80% chicken (heart, liver, thigh, neck, meat) 20% bait fish (the type they could catch in the wild)!.
Humans are omnivore who work well on a vegan diet, thus they eat that way!. Cat are carnivores who NEED meat thus are fed that way!.
Take that wisdom with your hedgehog!.
Do what's best for her!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're not a vegan, vegans don't exploit or own animals!. Your hedgehog would be much happier in the wild!. Why do you fight for animal rights, yet you choose to enslave them!? This is very hypocritical!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
