Isn't unbuttered movie theater popcorn white?!
I feel silly for asking this, but last evening at the movies I ordered unbuttered popcorn (the menu specifies that butter is added by request only)!. Upon inspection, the popcorn looked yellow!. I asked the waiter if he ordered it without butter and he reassured me that that it was yellow due to the oil!.!.!.or something along those lines!. I sniffed it, unsure if I could take his word for it!. I don't know if my mind was playing tricks on me, but I thought it smelled slightly buttery!. Maybe popped corn kernels naturally smell buttery!. I let my omnivore husband smell and taste test it, and he agreed that the there wasn't any butter as he grimaced and shook his head in disgust!. Still, I was uneasy about eating it!. I took a few bites and ordered a box of Sour Patch Kids instead!. It wasn't greasy at all like I remember buttered popcorn!. What do you think!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

It had no butter on it, but it is made with palm oil!. That is what makes it yellow!. I would actaually suggest getting some type of low fat candy at the movies instead of the popcorn!. Even though the popcorn has no butter, it is loaded with palm oil(saturated fats)!
Edit:
I have seen white popcorn!.!.!.air popped popscorn at home, yummWww@FoodAQ@Com

My brother makes the popcorn at my local Tinseltown, and it is disgusting!. Seriously, bring your own popcorn or buy the boxed candy!.
They pop the popcorn in dyed-yellow oil so that it looks fresher and more delicious!. (They will serve popcorn even if the oil is rancid, so that might attribute to the color as well!.!.!.) The oil is butter-flavored, too, so no matter what, it's buttery!. They don't use real butter even if you ask for it!. It's margarine!.
Real popcorn is white!. Movie theatre popcorn is yellow for a number of unpleasant reasons!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it probably was just due to the oil!. plus, the way you say your husband reacted to it is more proof--no one can mistake the taste of unbuttered popcorn!.
plus, it's CORN that's been popped--isn't corn naturally yellow, therefore it'd seem logical for it to keep a slight yellow tint sometimes when popped!? ;) hahahahahhaWww@FoodAQ@Com

Unbuttered popcorn is usually white, esp!. if it's that instant stuff you get in a bag!. Slightly yellow is okay, and I do mean very slightly could be all the oil but, if it was to yellow, I'd be suspicious!. The way you say your husband reacted to it is a good sign!. Very very slightly yellow is okay, as vegetable oil; is slightly yellow, and they may've just used tons of oil!.
Btw!.!.!.!.alot of things, if your a strict vegan are off limits!. Sour patch kids probably have gelatin in them which is created by ground nail (I know, gross huh), and other animal parts!. It is often used in many things as a thickener, and in some things, you'd think there'd be no need for it in there (like fruit juice or soda) but!.!.!.it's in there, point is some stuff you'd think have no animal product, does!. Natural flavorings can mean just about anything (including animal)!. Seriously, being a vegan, or vegetarian highly limits what you can eat, if you're really strict about it so, watch out!. I'd say most candies are off limits to (as are sodas, and a he11 of alot of things you'd think would be animal free b/c they use gelatin, or some other meat product that you'd think wouldn't be in there)!. Good luck on staying true to you convictions!. I imagine the net can help b/c sometimes it's hard to know what all those mysterious ingredients really are!. Much Love, SharkyWww@FoodAQ@Com
